| | | Those are my favorite from that set you took yesterday. Heres something you don't see much anymore, in fact there are less than 100 of them left in the U.S. An unpatched (for those non-rail buffs out there that simply means it has it's original number and markings) Southern Pacific leading a rock train into an abandoned Southern Pacific rail line. Just like old times. :) Busted, you'll see an unpatched SSW back there too. 4th in the line up.

Haha, thanks BK2. I thought I had asked what kind it was, and so I was kinda bummed when no one said anything at first - 'course now I look and see that I posted the picture sans text. And I was indeed in saginaw

Forgot to tell you, UP is painting them up quick now. This was actually SSW 1956 until a few weeks ago.

| | | Last count was less than 20 total unpatched units on both the Southern Pacific and the Cotton Belt. Good old DGNO has one of the better ones.
This SSW usually runs between Davidson and Ney Yards

| | | I think I saw a bunch of these when I worked in FW, just south of that 4-way junction where I30 and I35 meet - They were the original colors, but the numbers were all Red on Yellow like the rest of the UP's.

That 4 way junction is actually 7 active main lines. And it would go by the name Tower 55. Probably the best spot, or at least the busiest, in Texas to watch trains. Usually around 80 trains run through here a day. My favorite spot

Thats what we mean when we say patched or unpatched. Patched units are like what you describe, the numbers on the current company (U.P. in this case) color scheme painted over the originals. Unpatched units are now owned by the new company, but they have not been altered. Those kind are becoming more and more rare.

| | | I finally get to add to the thread. I'd like to know more about this train. It was pulled up at the FW Stockyards, and a "conductor" said it was a private party from Grapevine. The cars looked like second-hand Amtrak, with the paint all flaking off and looking in overall bad cosmetic shape. The other pictures of the engine were too dark, but it's engine number 2163. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.
