I was riding my bike through East Dallas and came across this train. The tank cars contained corn syrup, liquid CO2, and sodium hydroxide... sounds more like a shopping list than a manifest!

Turned out it was switching tracks so it could join up with some containerized freight cars on the next track. I've never gotten to watch that process up close before, so I spent a half hour watching. Much of the time was spent with the brakeman (?) walking VERRRY slowly from the switch to the back of the set, then VERRRY slowly again after they linked up, to the new trailing car. All the while blocking Barnes Bridge Rd. just short of Garland Rd. I think he did it on purpose. ;)

Are these DGNO cars? Looking at the pix, all I see is the number, no name.

Oh, I guess I should point out that these are cell phone pix, so there's plenty of washed-out bits where the sun was shining.

Good pictures RobertB. Those units look like DGNO, but since they don't have the company initials on them, I'll defer to Bustedknuckle on these. He's the DGNO expert.

Yeah those are "Dingo" units.

That term came up at a DART meeting about the Green Line expansion. There were several complaints about maintenance of the current tracks by DGNO, and the DART engineer (mechanical, not train) let "Dingo" slip. "Oh sorry," he said, "we're not really supposed to call them that." But I got a strong impression that it wasn't a term of endearment.

Not a great picture, about 4 years old. I actually took this with a Kodak point and shoot. I need to retry this with my DSLR.

Yeah, that was little rats kodak at the crossing about a mile from my house. I kept thinking over the weekend I'd get out and do some night shots, but by the time it gets night, I'm too lazy to get back out.

I want to try for a better shot of that rail bend I showed you yesterday. It's hard to catch at speed.

Little Rat and I went to CP 113 today. A few shots from there

This conductor gave little Rat his gloves. We gave him a ride back to the front of the train, would have been a long walk.

Very nice shots R, you do a great job of catching the personal aspect of railroading.

Thanks Mr. Knuckles. I like to include the people when I can, it's a huge part of the experience.

The guy in that picture, had to reset some derails, so the engineer had to pull the train ahead and he was going to have to walk about half a mile back to the engine. We gave him a ride, and he gave little Rat his gloves.

On the surface, might sound like not much, but like I told little man, we can mount those used gloves along with that picture and make a really cool display. (For you non-foamers this will make no sense at all)

If you told them about your grand scale backyard plans it would make even less sense. Of course I understand completely.

Yeah, you're right. Few can understand the artistic beauty in what we do. Speaking of backyard grand scale plans, I found the missing part for one of my gate controls. Once I get it, I can actually have TWO of them in my yard! LOL
