it's a shot of where I work.

Figured that.....but the real question is why did the Cobalt not make it into that shot?

we're not allowed to bring our cars inside the wire, not that I would WANT to bring my car inside the wire. I don't even drive my Cobalt to work because of the salt fallout from the powerhouse stack.
you should see the ghetto trains that CP Rail runs into that mill... they're ancient engines, some still in Guilford colors, some still in D&H paint.

I haven't been on the threads in a while... a lot of great photos have been added! Just wanted to share some more photos I took on my various travels.

The Interurban tracks in Van Alystne can still be discerned underneath the concrete.

Nice pics twisterintexas. I love old abandoned tracks. Of course, I'd rather see trains still running on them.

Love that BNSF shot. Excellent. Is that the rock train I heard about yesterday? CN being the clue there.

I haven't posted one in a while. This one is sitting in Tyler yard, but repairs are almost complete. I haven't found out yet what this locomotive attacked, but I'd still bet the train won.

what is it about trains.... it's just like.... you see one go by and you get really excited, like a little kid. it's almost like a privilege for me to have to wait at track intersection while the train goes by. it's even better if i'm at the front of that line and am right next to the train

when the CP Rail guys come in and switch our chemical cars out, most of the guys I work with just go back upstairs. I stay down there and talk with the brakeman and get a charge out of the engines. Sometimes, if they're ahead of schedule, the engineer lets me take a look at things inside the engine.

You're like a big kid, Samurai! LOL
But I know how you feel. I jumped at the chance to get into the steam loco that pulls the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad that runs from Chama to Antonito. Pretty awesome scenery to be seen there. Sure didn't want to brush up against anything hot in the cab!!!

I was in Tulsa over the weekend -- my grandmother fell and broke her hip and elbow, poor thing. So I didn't have time for a'splorin', but I did see something cool. On the tracks in the median of the Broken Arrow Expressway was a short train with a *caboose*. I got some pix, but we were on the highway and couldn't get very good shots... plus I forgot my SD adapter and can't post them right away.

How rare is an active caboose sighting these days?

Pretty rare. Theres usually some specific reason for having one. Like here in Tyler, occasionally they use one when backing up a rock train for about 8 miles. The conductor rides there to verify the gates are down. Lately though, they've just been riding in the rear gondola.

Yeah that's a rarity these days RobB, sometimes you see them at railyards, they use them as "shove cars" (just basically using the platform of the caboose to move freight cars around the yard without coupling them).

I recently took a trip up the Great Western Trail, at least the portion from Bandera to Baird, Texas. I couldn't resist stopping in Thurber, of course, where my son pointed out the abandoned T&P tracks under the asphalt.

The other two photos are from Waxahachie. Waxahachie is quite a unique place because it has three (!!!) original depots in their original locations. This is quite rare.

Most likely the Katy Depot. Check out the signal post; next to it is a mail bag hook.

The Santa Fe Depot looks similar to the one in Corsicana, except it has a cool turret.

I love trains, too. I've taken the Amtrak to OK City and to Chicago, and hope to take it to LA soon. I also organize the archives at a rail road museum, and I can't even begin to tell you how fun it is to find blueprints of Baldwin Engines, original photos of train crashes, and pension papers of RR Brotherhood members, all jumbled in a railroad postal car.

( I bought the locally produced videos, "I Love Toy Trains." I bought them when my son was a toddler and I still watch them. Did I just confess that?!)

Great shots BK. That old one in the top picture is looking bad. Needs a little TLC. And a sweet, pretty rare, unpatched SP. My favorite RR.

Where was that BNSF? Looks almost like it's running across a cow pasture. Nice shot there too. And that EMD... that's cool. Never seen one dressed up like that.
