Anybody get the canon rebel xti? its the better ver. of the rebel??

considering that the XTi / 400D hasn't hit shelves yet (nor has the Nikon D80).... NO.

it'll be quite a shootout this holiday season, 10MP on all the entry-level cameras, all with the assorted classic feature sets:

Nikon: ergonomics, great interface, and general nikon-ness
Canon: low high-ISO noise (MAYBE!) and shite ergonomics (HELLO MENUS!)
Sony / K-M: excessive 1600 ISO noise, good-ish ergonomics and IN-BODY STABILIZATION!

Just got the Canon 30D and I love it! Way better than my rebel in every aspect. Noise is incredibly low on high iso's, the body is sturdy and has that nice "quality" feel to it. Picture output is great aswell.

Would highly reccomend it if your looking for a new DSLR!

lets investigate. arrh arrh

The Konica Minolta Dimage a1/a2 is great if you're looking for a camera under $200. They have Minolta's stabilization technology, which is the bomb, and they have a lot of manual controls that the more expensive DSLRs have. The a1 has 5MP resolution, while the a2 has 8MP.

a few good cameras for extreme UE that can handle a good portion of drops, bangs, and slams against fences from jumping are....

Pentax K1000

Olympus OM series

Canon AE-1 Program (not half bad)

Nikon F, F1, F2, FM2... and many others like it

and im throwin this in there for shits and giggles even though any respectable photographer wouldnt take this out of the house...... Nikon S5 Rangefinder

add the X700 to that list. mine takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'.

i'm considering getting a D70s (since i won't be able to get my hands on a D80 til january anyway) and trading up later.

good idea?

do you know how to waltz?

I have a Sony that has a night view option - it has built in night vision, 5 meg resolution - I think it is a DSC3.

I'm currently using a Canon S3 IS, and now that I have the photo bug back, I am looking to by something in the DSLR range... -maybe- $1100 max (Canadian dollars) for the body. Lenses are separate from that budget. While I am using a Canon I also like Nikon. One important thing is it should be SD as I already have piles of SD storage, and not too interested in buying a bunch of Comcrap Flash cards ( I can use SD for my GPS, camera(s), laptop, etc). AA's would be nice, but I suppose a proprietary battery is ok as I will get a vertical grip anyways. I wouldn't mind the ability to do either time lapse or videos, or both, but those are just options I can live without.

Any suggestions?

First off, forget Videos with DSLRs. I would currently vouch for the D80 cause it's simply an awesome camera for the price. Battery life is excellent, low noise abilities are also excellent and it's within your budget. Get a 18-70mm F3.5-4.5 AF-S DX ED and a 50mm F1.8 with an SB-600 if you have spare cash and you've got an great starter kit. The Canon XTi is another good option but I find it way too small and absolutely hate the Rebel ergonomics.

i say it all depends on how much you can spend on one. last summer i traded in 7 35mm toward my digital. i was very tired of paying for film, processing, prints only to bring them home and scan all the prints which took forever. its more cost effective for me to shoot digital and i really like my 20D. if i had disposable income, i would still shoot a digital slr of some kind. maybe medium format.

I know there are a few posts here already that mention the Canon A620, and it seems like just what I'm looking for, but Canon recently released the A630, and that's all I can find in stores. So I'd like to know if anyone owns a Canon A630, or what you all think about it? Or, if anyone has any other suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

I'm looking for something in the $200-$350 range, and I would like to stay with Canon because I've had good experiences with their products in the past (I had an A510 that I was satisfied with until I dropped it in the ocean like a dumbass). This will be my only camera--since I can't afford a vast camera collection that some of you are so lucky to have--so it will be used for everything from candid friend/family shots to UE photography, perhaps some model shots, nature and animals, and I'd kind of like to try some night photography, too. So, any opinions on the A630 or suggestions for other cameras for me would be greatly appreciated!

Also, should I buy from a superstore like Best Buy/Circuit City or a smaller store? There's a family-owned Canon camera dealer/repair business in my town, but I'm afraid their prices might be outrageous.

I <3 archaic industry.

As mentioned before, I dropped my DC and broke the zoom and focus mechanism. I went to the photo store, and they said it'd cost more than the camera to fix the problem. I might try to fix it anyway. Soo, I need a new DC. Not expensive, and capable of taking medium quality shots. It has to be below $250. Any suggestions? My friend suggested this:

Thx.

I have been doing a bit of research about cameras of late. I have found a site that lists all expert reviews for a particular product in one page. You have the luxury to compare what the different experts are saying about it that will help you determine what is the best product most suited to your needs. That way, it could make your decision a lot easier. Just my $0.02 cents.

I agree completely about the XTi being too small. I fucking hate holding an XT. They're tiny, they don't feel like an SLR at all. On the Canon spectrum, I would much rather have a 20d or a 30d.

I rented one for a weekend when my coveted D80 wasn't available. The fucking XTi gave my hand cramps, and I'm used to holding an FZ30. I loathe the XTi.

I love my 30D. I have friends with a: D100, D50, D70, and a D200. My 30D is fantastic and I have NO reason to want to swap to a Nikon.

hAS ANONE TRIED THE OLY E-500 THEY HAVE A GREAT 2 LENS KIT THAT IS AWESOME FOR HE BEGINNER DSLR PEOPLE. AND THEY HAVE A BUNCH OF LENSES AVAILABLE FROM FISH EYE TO SUPER ZOOM IN ALL DIFFERENT APERATURES. i HAVE HAD MINE SINCE NOVEMBER AND HAVE TAKEN THOUSANDS OF PICTURES WITH IT. iT TAKES A LITTLE BIT OF GETTING USED TO BUT IT IS A EASY CAMERA TO LEARN AND UNDERSTAND. GLASS FOR IT IS A LITTLE BIT SPENDY STILL BUT ZUIKO LENSES ARE GREAT. I THINK WITH 2 MAYBE 3MORE LENSES A FISH EYE AND A FAST TELE AND A 50MM 2.8 MACRO AND i WILL BE SET FOR WHATEVER I NEED. GREAT CAMERA. DONT WORRY ABOUT THE BODY AS MUCH AS THE LENSES THATS WHERE YOUR PICTURES COME FROM.

I am starting to really get into photography, and want the digital rebel, but seeing how it is 900 bucks, and I wondering if it would be the best camera to get if it is my first slr(?). If it isn't what camera would be the best.

Is there any particular reason you object to looking for this type of info the general photography review sites?
