I was a maybe but didn't feel like walking out to Arlington since my g/f needed the car to go to work. Dallas would be preferable seeing as I am still relatively new here (just over 1 year) and have not traveled much outside of the city limits. I like the idea of a meeting every other month. Other than that, I look forward to meeting some folks.

DD- or just Drew. Whatever suits.

Now all we need to do is set up a date and time and I think we will all be set up for much success!

Me and my partner would like to attend if that is cool with everyone. We are the noobs that live in the north Garland/Richardson/Plano area off of the Bush TP.

Oh yeah, I just got the new Tupperware catalog so maybe we could make it like a UE/Tupperware party? Everyone will have to pull out their best pant suits for this one! OK, that is lame, I'm sorry.

Awesome.. the more the merrier. (Leave your Tupperware catalog at home, though... hehe.)

And I have to ask, what exactly is going on in your avatar there?

It's a clip from the show Little Britain on BBC. The character is Vicky. OK, no Tupperware or Amway this time. I can't wait to meet some fellow DFW'ers!!

So far, then, there are three places that have been suggested:

* Pizza joint in Irving

I can't remember the name, so it's hard to get reviews. That one may be eliminated because the bozo who suggested it (me) didn't give us enough information.

* Louie's, Henderson & Ross

The CitySearch review calls it "haven for writers and public figures in search of a little anonymity." Anonymity == good. Food "doesn't venture far beyond bar food like burgers, pastas and salads" and includes "large salads served family style in portions generous enough for four to share." Bottle beer (no draft), and they only take cash and Amex (that's wierd). No smoking.

* Cock & Bull, Gaston & La Vista (Lakewood)

A bit more than pizza, Quick notes that "Honey-glazed quail could grace the chalkboard specials on a given night." Their standard $8 burger, the Red Bull, "oozes with smoked gouda, chipotle mayo and roasted red peppers." Contrasting with Louie's are the 12 on-tap beers. Smoking a-go-go; Quick suggests you "prepare the Febreze".

If it were just up to me, I think I'd lean towards Louie's. It seems more amenable to a furtive meeting of people whose common interest lies in the shadows. But the Cock & Bull has a lot going for it, too, especially if beer and plastic flexibility are on your list. C&B may not let my under-18 daughter in, though, which would exclude me from the meeting. On the other hand, their web site advertises free wifi, which would let us view our impressive collections of por... um, sry, abandonment pictures.

A couple of great suggestions so far. Any others? The next scheduled meeting wouldn't be until around April, so there's no rush.

Well, but in the same respect, they don't have draft beer. This is a downside for me, because I love snakebites. Plus, the Cock & Bull do offer Wi-Fi for free (when it's working). The only downside is that it is a smoking place, so if you don't like smoke, I wouldn't know what to tell you. Just my thought. The 18 and up part isn't bad. It is more of a restaurant than a bar. They will let her come in and eat, especially if we are all going to be in there chowing down and drinking beer. I am almost positive they won't care.

Let me throw this out there and see what bites me....

Would there be any interest in, say, a cookout/meeting/event at someones house? or perhaps a public park? Something planned way in advance for an afternoon that would fit in with most every one's schedule. Something fairly "family" safe for those who have kiddos.

What kind of problems or impact would this create, good and bad?

Whatever y'all decide is fine by me. As long as I know about two weeks in advance I can get the day off from work, so count on me being there.

I actually think that is a great idea. I was actually contemplating throwing that idea out. I think a park would be pretty suited for this sort of occasion, then after that, we might be able to explore someone's favorite location.

You are also not a full member yet, just wait for that. Once you hit full member, then you will be able to see all the locations, instead of the very limited amount that you are able to see at the moment. As far as meeting up, everyone new or old is welcome to join up with us! Welcome to the UE community.

A park would be great -- there are some in particular that are close to interesting drainage features. However, there's a pretty good chance that we would encounter monsoon rains or tropical heat. And if it hit during the couple of weeks we call "winter", it'll probably be during our annual ice storm.

Though the Tyler State Park meet up still sounds good, for some reason. Maybe it's just because it's better to be caught out in the weather in some town other than the one you're stuck in the rest of the time.

Actually, it *is* the only Fort Worth exploration site I know.

(As in, if there's another, I don't know about it.)

Right, but there is about 15% that you can see as a public member and 85% that you can see as a full member
