Ok... someone was foolish enough to give me permission to modify the "official" DFW Meet-and-Greet item. Yay. The date was going to be April 19 -- time flies! -- so I'll change it to April 5, and add the rest of the information.

I'll have to change the description, too... but for the benefit of the historians of the future who will eventually identify this forum as the root cause of the [destruction|salvation] of the world, here's the current version:
DFWMNG is now under the handling of Mellon_Collie. PM him with questions regarding UTEX.

The name of the table/party is always, "Jeff." When you get there, ask for "Jeff." If there is no party with that name yet, guess what! you're the 1st person. Be a doll and set up a table of about 6 or so under said name and wait for the rest of us.

I've updated everything correctly, I think... but check out the listing and let me know if there's anything I missed. Oh, and RSVP (that's french, BTW). Not that I can hold you to it, of course. In fact, perhaps everyone should mark "Can't make it", so we can be pleasantly surprised.

I haven't been to the venue before, but I'm assuming we'll be pretty easy to find. I've got a straw hat and summer-y looking glasses that I'll set on the table to show where we are. A.Geoduck, do you think that will work?

Yeah should be fine. It's a great hole-in-the-wall pizza place. Relatively cheap pizza, beer, sodas, etc. They have a nice little loft upstairs. It will be great.

Ok, it's tomorrow, so we'll see who shows up!

If anyone has problems -- can't find it or some such -- send a txt to my phone. I'm not going to put my number on a public forum, but I've set up an email address that will forward to my phone. This link (to prevent spam) will give you an email address for my phone.

I have one question. Deep Ellum is notorious for difficulty parking. Where's the best place to park for Zinis?

Man, I wish I could make it to this one. That's the one part of Dallas I can get to without getting lost, haha. I went to Lafayette last weekend, though, so I'm broke for the time being. I'll see y'all next time.

How come I got the notification like ONE day before the actual event? Geesh! I would have been there, but I need like... you know, longer notice. I had to work! Grrr.... stupid kids and their stupid band contests where they need stupid school buses to drive them!

So if so many people showed up, how come no one RSVP'd?

Hmmm?

I've met several of you, but it would have been nice to see you again, (AHEM, Mr. ROBERTB...) and meet more of you for the first time.

Any places in particular? Even if we never manage to get organized (we're not exactly the follow-the-leader crowd, donchaknow), I like learning about the cool hole-in-the-wall joints.

Is that legendary burger joint on Camp Bowie (so legendary I can't remember its name, starts with K?) still running? Its hours were a bit iffy, but the seating is all at picnic tables, and the burgers are awesome.

Last time I was in FW, my son and I found a wonderful pizza joint downtown. Again, I'm clueless on the name, but there was dining upstairs with tiny recessed windows that appeared to be from the pre-AC days. Reasonable prices and great atmosphere.

One of the ideas was to have separate east-side and west-side meetings, and if you've got the situational awareness, we're well on the way!

As mentioned, that's Kincaid's - but rumor has it, they're going to be moving soon. Also, they opened up another location in Arlington @ a stripmall on the north side of Matlock & I20. Kind of weird.

In FW there's a grid, basically, boxed in by Rosedale, 8th avenue, Berry & Hemphill (with a lot of good places on Magnolia) that has the highest concentration of holes in the wall that I know of. There's also Fred's in the museum district - want to say it's off of Curry...

Anyway, someone mentioned the East/West thing - that's a pretty decent idea. I'm stuck in traffic 5 days a week and gas is inching up to $4 a gallon, so Dallas is out for me. Of course, as soon as I mentioned work was letting up enough for me to do anything extra, I had to spend the week doing stuff to get ready for an upcoming trip overseas (which was just confirmed) so... (on a side note, does anyone know of any abandonments in Hong Kong? *lol*)

Wow!! That is one huge Buda...

Hmm... that reminds me. I think I dated a guy once that referred to his 'manhood' as 'Huge Buda.'

I couldn't tell where this new Pizza Conference is going to be held. 30/80 and 360, but what restaurant/bar? I replied, and plan to be there.

Nevermind. Didn't realize we already had the dee-eff-dub-meet-n-greet up. I thought it got taken down at some point for some reason.

Well, if someone would have told me more than the day before in advance, I would have been there...

It's probably my fault. I modified the existing event in the database, changing the date from 4/19 to 4/5. But that wasn't until last week, so there weren't the usual advance notifications. I got a couple, but like you said, they didn't come in time.

Looking forward to going somewhere in Fort Worth. Has anyone else been to Sammy's Pizza at 4th and Houston? It's in a cool historic building, and it has a balcony -- that turned out to be a handy feature at Zini's. And the pizza is cheap. Here's a link: Sammy's Pizza & Deli.

Blah.. no big deal. I'll make it to the next one, I'm sure.

I've been to that place... it is fantastically awesome.
