Hey what's up all.

I haven't been around here all that much these days and I've stopped getting the automatic notifications for the meet and greats...if someone could shoot me a PM with some info on the next one that would be great....I'd like to try and make it.

It's always available at this link: here, which is kind of cool because the eventid is 16, making the DFW meetup one of the oldest in the system (unless AV shuffles them periodically). Other current events are in the 300s.

And there's the other consideration: you'll be better off watching this thread, because we're known to change our mind at the last minute...

I live in Plano.

There's a place in the old downtown part of Plano called "Kelly's Eastside"; they have good food, and a nice atmosphere.

Here's their website:

http://www.kellyse...de.com/index.shtml

And a maps.live view to their location (Kelly's is the place with the red awning in the center of the picture):

There's another place called "Love & War in Texas"; here's their website:

Here's a maps.live view of their location:

Love both of those places...great food and cold beer. Can't beat it.

Love & War is an awesome joint, but it's definitely out of my price range. Definitely worth the price, but stuff that good ain't cheap. It's also a good place to go to hear some *real* country music, not the twang-pop you hear on the radio these days (unless you've found 95.3 KHYI -- I run a fan discussion list related to the station and it's music).

Kelly's looks good, and while it's not cheap by my tightwad standards ($8 hamburgers, but they do sound good), it does have some appetizers under $5 that are probably enough to keep yer mouth full when you talk. Plus, it's right on the rail line, so I don't have to drive in Plano.

Any objections to Kelly's, then? If not, I'll update the event and post the train schedules.

Some one actually suggested a place off the rail line. Thats amazing i think i might cry. Ether he remember not every one has a working car or I just got lucky this time.

The place sounds good to me I don't think ill be buying $8 hamburger tho.

So we may finally have a train friendly outing maybe one day well have a Jew friendly outing.

Are we going to get new notifications when the final place is set?

No, the system doesn't seem to issue updates when the event info changes. It'll send a reminder however-many days before the event, to members within however-many kilometers of the event's location at the moment. The best bet is to watch this space for the latest updates. I think there's enough support to make Kelly's the official choice for this time around.

Train info: The Red Line light rail runs every 20 minutes, so once you get to downtown Dallas, don't stress if you see a train leave without you! Here's a timeline if you're coming from FW:

Trinity Railway Express eastbound
Fort Worth T&P station 12:55
FW Intermodal Center 1:00
Centreport Station 1:33
South Irving Station 1:45
Union Station (downtown Dallas) 2:05

Then, just catch any northbound Red Line train (destination sign reads "Parker Road") to Downtown Plano Station. You'll get there an hour early, so go check out Eisenberg's. That's where I'll be before the actual meeting, at least.

If you miss that train out of FW, don't worry. Catch the next one. You'll get to Union Station at 3:30 and you'll end up in Downtown Plano fashionably late, just after 4:30.

Cost: $5 day pass from FW or Centreport, $3 day pass from Irving or anywhere in the DART area.

I really lucked out this time thats just a couple of stops on the red line for me i wont even have to hope trains. Alright good choice

Jew friendly?? Hehe...

Well all he meetings are on saturdays at about 4 or so. Well Saturday also happens to be shabat which is a holy day to jews. Yes I know thats the day thats good for everybody but it doesn't change the fact. I would probably come to more meet n greets if it weren't for that. (oh and transportation) Im not trying to make it a big deal Im just stating a fact.

Actually, Love & War is technically MUCH closer to the rail line than Kelly's...maybe 20 yards from it...it's just that the train doesn't actually stop there...

I think Kelly's is the better choice anyway though.

Wrong rail line, though. That's the big diesel freight train that roars past L&W (and the KHYI studio across the street), not the quiet little electric DART train. Hopping a ride on that baby would involve a UE adventure I'm not quite ready for, yet. On the plus side, I think they used to give free jello shots whenever a train rumbles past. Wonder if they still do that?

But yeah, let's go for Kelly's this time. And I promise, when I win the lottery, I'll treat the bunch to one of these, and Dublin Dr Pepper all around:

If we scheduled one after sundown, it would be ok, right? Be thinking of someplace on the rail line that would be a good meetup place this winter, when the sun goes down earlier!

That was Love & War in Texas, which despite the jello shots (which may only be for the patio guests) is very kid-friendly, as long as the kids have a taste for good but possibly-exotic food. My middle daughter was somewhere around 10 when we went last (probably 4-5 years ago), and she still wants to go back for the boar and venison. (And my older daughter loves gourmet cooking, and my son likes broccoli. Go figure!)

Kelly's is the place we've kinda settled on. The reviews for Kelly's specifically note that there are a lot of families there. And the staples are burgers 'n fries, so I don't think any American kid will suffer from cuisine shock.

How about we just scrap all those ideas and meet in KC? Would that be too inconvenient?

yall just let me know where the final place is gonna be, cause i'm lost in the conversation

And then, it asks the question: in a cold, uncaring, ruthless world of corporate slavery and assembly-line experiences . . . how is it possible to still live a life with strength, and passion, and with a soul that is still truly alive?
