I vote for Tolbert's in Grapevine:

http://www.tolbert...rant.com/index.htm

Great food, and a central metroplex location so it's equally easy for Dallas and Ft. Worth folks.

Their chili and burgers are outstanding!

Grapevine is good and I know the location to an extent

And then, it asks the question: in a cold, uncaring, ruthless world of corporate slavery and assembly-line experiences . . . how is it possible to still live a life with strength, and passion, and with a soul that is still truly alive?

Grapevine seems tempting, even though it's a bit far for me and many of the folks that have been to the previous meetups... it would be nice to have a meeting that's convenient for the northern suburbanite crew.

How many folks from Plano-Southlake-Etc will commit to it? (to the extent that anyone commits to anything, of course)

Sounds extremely appealing, though we've always kind of left the extracurricular activities unplanned -- at least in public -- for the, er, usual reasons. Besides, aren't "happy in a dark secluded drain" and "happy in a bright crowded food court" a little contradictory?

That's just my opinion, of course, and keep in mind that I'm biased towards hole-in-the-wall joints -- I'm sure you couldn't have guessed that I lean a bit to the anti-corporate side. But we've been thumbing our noses at corporate cuisine for seven months, now... maybe it's time to do our part for the stockholders. Besides, I've got a soft spot for Chick-Fil-A -- anyplace with the guts to voluntarily close on Sunday gets a gold star from me.

Though I gotta admit that I'd rather meet at Eisenbergs. Does anyone remember the Blue Ramp at Bachman Lake?

Thats the best way to be. I love my hole in the wall joints (including Hole in the Wall Hamburgers) the food is just better and usually they are in an old building!

Gotta watch out for bathroom stalls with holes in the wall though, from what I hear.

I typically dig 'hole-in-the-wall' places too, but for my purposes, I don't really make a distinction between nicer, newer one-off places (like Tolberts, that aren't part of a corporate chain), and your stereotypical dingy hole-in-the-wall places.

The automatic announcement just came by, so we're gonna have to figure something out! I noted Plano or Grapevine. Grapevine would be good if we were getting a lot of folks from FW... but so far, the FW crew has been down in a drain or something and hasn't shown up (except of course for Happiedaze!). So unless we hear the coyotes cry in the western sky, I'm leaning towards Plano.

I don't spend much time in Plano (Oak Cliff is more my style), but I've heard that the old downtown area is coming back. The only things I know in downtown are the DART station and Eisenbergs. Have any eatin' joints opened up within walking distance of the station?

Yeah there is some stuff out there.

I ate at the German joint a while back and it was good stuff although I doubt it would fit everyones tastes.

Hey what's up all.

I haven't been around here all that much these days and I've stopped getting the automatic notifications for the meet and greats...if someone could shoot me a PM with some info on the next one that would be great....I'd like to try and make it.
