The lack of 24 hour Perkins has made UE difficult. It's no fun if I have to drive half way across the cities just to get the after-trip lemonade. I've only been to the streetcar, so I can't compare. I locked the key in the bathroom last time I was there.

The Perkins on Snelling and County Rd. B is open 24 Hours, and not too horribly far from MSP.

Asylunt: did you get yours from ragstock here? All the army navy surplus stores charge too much for everything. Did you find any stores that sell cheap waders?

Oh my god people are so childish.

I've already said, my flightsuit dig was just a JOKE.

And for gods sake I don't think a french army goretex jacket and pants is more than I need, it's what I need. It keeps me warm when it's cold, it keeps me cool when its warm, plus its waterproof for when it rains, and it is rip resistant. Who could fucking want more?

And as an added bonus, it's camouflaged and has loads of cool pockets.

Get it?

Now can we stop debating how we feel about each other, and move on to the actual topic? EQUIPMENT.

Oh and I do know the difference between a flightsuit and an anit G suit, so don't patronise me. I was taking the piss because of how "makeshift" it was. So don't get all bitchy on me just because you don't have a sense of humour.

There is also a 24-hour Perkins in St Paul right near the Ford Plant, in the Highland neighborhood. Perkins is a must for post-UE grubbing.

I'm looking for software engineers to hire at Amazon.

I got mine at the Warehouse one that's right near where I live, but I have seen them at other places. For some reason the army surplus places around the cities are kind of expensive, especially that one that is down in the Warehouse District, the woman that works there is a bitch! Cerebral told me about this outdoor gear outlet store, I can't remember the name but they had some cheap ones, just they were all some odd size and didn't work out for me. I found some that I think I am going to get at Ghetto K-Mart, and if you don't know where Ghetto K-Mart is, I suggest taking a trip to Lake and Nicollet, you'll instantly see why it's called Ghetto K-Mart.

And thanks Macsbug and Max for enlightening me about new Perkins locations, as my GF and I have been searching for them, it pisses us off that there is no place to eat when she gets off work at 3:00am around Downtown Minneapolis. Bleh.

Black flightsuit

Camo flightsuit

Both cost $35 and are replicas. The real ones cost $125.

Winter is approaching so what changes do you make? Less stuff to be more nimble/ more stuff to be warmer? Or do you stay the same?

I'll be wearing the same french army stuff this season. Goretex and waterproof are such a cool combination. Especially since Goretex is cool during summer and warm during winter.

Something to do with microporus fabric, opening up when it gets warm, closing shut when it gets cold.

I'd suggest you take a look at the winter thread, like Phreak480 proposed.

Goretex and waterproof are such a cool combination.

All Goretex is waterproof, it is the type of material patented by the manufacturer...
Goretex is the brandname...

GORE-TEX® fabric is specifically engineered to form an impenetrable barrier against wind and water while maintaining breathability. The most tested — and most trusted — windproof, waterproof, breathable fabric, only GORE-TEX® outerwear carries the Guaranteed to Keep You Dry® promise ~ from the Goretex website

There are also other companies with similar fabrics, such as Sympatex and others.

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

Do you know how they invente Gore-Tex? I'll tell you!

This guy Gore was an electrical engineer.

He was playing with a piece of wire that had vinyl insulation. He peeled a little bit of the insulation off just playing with it and found that he could really stretch the hell out of it and when it got really thin it was kind of soft and pliable but still very difficult to tear. Then he figured out it was waterproof.

Now he doesn't work any more. He's very very rich. Why can't I discover something like this?

you also have to be good at economic warfare. Lots of people who discover things like that get payed hardly anything. You have to know how to bank on it.

Goretex is a dupont trademark isn't it?

Yeah its very good stuff. Almost like it was made with UE in mind.

Getting back on topic, how many pockets do you all find you end up using? I only ever use mine for little torches, keys, and food most the time. I've often wondered if I could make better use of them. But the problem is I just can't think of a use...

Gortex doesnt always stay waterproof. Washing it with detergent etc breaks it down enough to let it seap though.

As for you tunnel rats go to your local surplus stores! There are old rain gear suits (currently being replaced by gortex) thats totally rubberized. THeres a top and bottom. So if you got to trek through the slime it will stay off you. Also it may help if you duct tape it shut. Just a helpful thought.

Do you guys ever visit thrift stores to get cheap clothign that can easily be ruined in UE adventures and you not having to worry about it? I was thinking about these stores the other day because they could have anything needed for Infiltration..for cheap.

I get UE clothing from thrift stores, mostly military camo, gloves, etc (I lose gloves easily). I once saw a surplus jumpsuit from my university's physical plant, but it was too small for me! Recently I got a security guard uniform at a thrift store for about $10, but I have yet to find a good use for it.

Thrift stores are great! I always check 'em out for old Super 8 film equipment and old videogame systems and accessories. They always have some sweet clothing there, like uniforms to wierd places, trenchcoats, and 80's clothes. Also keep an eye out for wierd items that may prove useful to UE, ie. packs and tools.

What do "80's" clothes look like. Oh wait , I resemble that remark! Honestly, though, thrift stores are good places to pick up stuff, escpecially in wealthy neighborhoods, where they are glad to give up a 3000 dollar sofa to "charity".
80's clothes on the other hand? As with most decades, there were freakish fads, and then there were those who chose not to participate. I still have some LL Bean sweaters and khakis from around '85 that I still wear today because they are just classic fashions.

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.

Well I was going for the NKOTB shirts and the flashpants, I have some friends that like to have themed parties, like 80's party, White Trash Party, Pimps and Hoes party, etc. We hit the thrift store up for costumes.

Around here the thrift stores get busted up, springless crap furniture from trailer park garage sale rejects, then try to sell them for $300 or so. I've honestly found higher-quality couches at the dump (and sold one for $100 at the end of the semester), although it's a bitch getting them home on a bike Unfortunately this year has been a poor scavenging one for furniture, I'm still looking for a good dorm couch.

I was shopping at that store a couple months ago and I got the same impression. I expect surplus store employees to be a little crazy, but this woman totally creeped me out.

For those in MN, Fleet Farm seems to have some good deals. I picked up some nice rubber overboots there for $15. Didn't check prices on full waders though.
