| | | Posted by splinter Im into airsoft and starting to get into UE, i think my assualt vest would be useful for carrying everything, but if caught wearing it, i'd have ALOT of explaining to do:p I was thinking the bag i've got for my camelbak would be quite efficient for carrying limited UE gear? is camo slightly suspect for wearing?

Carry a professional looking camera; it's a great excuse.
I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying. |

As Mark and others have said elsewhere, camo is "chic" enough that you can probably pass it off as normal clothes. Still though, my preferred "camo" is the college-student-photo-geek look, because... well, that's what I am. And the expensive camera does help. Probably more important than any of this though, is being deferential and not acting suspicious. If I'm confronted by a cop/security guy, I'm going to be dead honest with them about what I'm doing. Also, carrying even a toy gun like an airsoft pistol sounds like a great way to get yourself shot by a nervous cop or security guard. So don't do that.

| | | Camo in my mind is simply for one purpose, to be worn so when I'm going into a place where no excuse (be it "i'm a photo geek" or "lost student" or "got lost and accidentally climbed into this secure compound") is going to work, and you really really want to limit your chances of being detected. If on the other hand, you expect to be caught, then wear a lime green shirt and hope for the best...

B..b..b...but what if you do get caught?????? ;) Good advice. Also, you can compromise -- wear dark-ish clothing that can still be passed off as normal clothes. Although obviously it's not going to do you a lot of good in broad daylight, when your photo-geek excuse would be most plausible. [last edit 11/21/2004 3:21 AM by Servo - edited 2 times]

| | | Hello everyone, This is my first post here - great site. I got a new Canon Digital EOS Rebel - then went out and bought a really cool water-resistant camera bag. You could carry a lot of "stuff" in there, really, "for your camera." Anyways, the bulk and hazard of an expensive camera could pay huge dividends in both a) credibility and b) tool justification (within reason, of course). Keep a notepad with "picture reference information" on it - most photographers keep track of such. Basics: - Camera (Digital Rebel starting today, unless I'm not snapping) - Dark-toned, non-wrinkle clothes - always a jacket/windbreaker. - Big Mag and Mini-mag (keychain) - just mini sometimes - Leatherman - Sewing kit (just a quirk, but has come in handy a couple times) - Ball cap - "Authorization letter" from a bogus agency (I was tricked?) - Business cards (find someone with a good color printer) - ID & cell - always - no radios, as I'm usually solo (yeah, not as fun) Of course, there aren't many tunnels in my area. If there were, I'd definitely go with the coveralls/overalls/flight suit thing. I've gotten filthy in buildings and kicked myself.

| | | Wow; you guys cart around a lot of shit. Maybe it's just me but besides the camera (which fits into a pocket) I carry one thing; a maglight. And sometimes a respirator. Oversimplified? maybe. But I don't need a first aid kit, smoke bombs , flash bang grenades, or any of that other shit.

| | | first aid kit (or at least medical tape and some sort of cleaning fluid) is always a good idea for abandonments. if you cut yourself on something, you don't really know what kind of bacteria is on stuff, so cleaning it quickly would be a good idea. my group always carries band-aids and hydrogen peroxide, but we are planning to get alcohol wipes so we don't have to carry a whole bottle of HO5 and just carry a small tin of alcohol wipes.

| | | Posted by -=Kid-Sparkle=- I tried searhing but had little luck with any threads offering information on what type of stuff to pack for different situations so maybe you guys could help out. Equipment for: drains, caves, abandoned buildings, houses, bridges, tunnels, etc.... Help out -jake
| I just packed a light back pack with bottled water or a full canteen, a rather large first-aid kit, batteries for camera/flash/flash light, cell phone, hand-held radios, extra film ( for those who still use SLR cameras, like me) or memory storage. When i got to the location, i decided what i would actually take with me, and what i would leave in my vehicle, but i took my miner's lantern and it's back-up battery (12 volt), Mag-Lite, cell phone, radios, and canteen. But as always, it's up to you as to what you think you should take, and also, it depends on the location you investigate, but do it the safe way, and let someone you trust know where you'll be.

The paddles aren't all that handy without something to paddle are they... But good selection of gear. It seems that rayovac has become one of the most popular lights around...
|
They are Jester, but i use my miner's lantern. The reflector is mounted on a hard hat, with the battery in a special holster attached to my belt. I carry one spare battery for this light. I also use a 3-cell Mag-Lite as back-up. Pays to be careful, and prepared.

This one kept me laughing for good 2 minutes - maybe I'm a bit tired... Sorry, not to be offensive as I'm not familiar with the exact model of the knife, but usually these "Rambo" knives with bells and whistles are pretty useless as knives and the fishing hooks etc.inside the handle are probably not very useful either.
