I got to go through Heritage park, but it was for a story I'm working on so I actually had permission. It kinda took the fun out of it, having the parks department unlock it for you. Lot of interesting things about to happen to that place.

You should have told them, "Nah, don't worry about the gate, I know an easier way." ;)

Meetup tomorrow at the burger joint in Carrollton. There's 6 "maybes" on the event listing -- including me, though I think chances are pretty good. Whoever gets there, just sit "up top" and look for explorer-type folks. 2pm at Burger Island in Carrollton, just down Belt Line from the Green Line train station.

Good quality meetup last weekend... maybe not much quantity, but quality. Big plans were discussed, which have me craving a King Cake.

Anyone have a preference or suggestion for February's location?

Just throwing this out there- I own a limousine company, If you guys wanted, I could book the car and we could drive around and slam some beers or whatever, it would be free but if people would chip in for gas that'd be awesome.

For the 12th the car has a gig that night so we couldn't take it then but next month sure or even maybe a second meetup in Feb?

Hey! My friend and I will be in the area this Saturday.. other than the burger place, any plans made for an exploration? He's never been before, and I want to surprise him with a really cool location as well as meet some new people in the area.

I have to gettin ready for work around 5:30pm, but I can lead to some locations around Denton like the peanut dryer or some of the abandoned houses. Denton is ~40 miles north of Dallas though.

Aw crap, I never got around to being an organizer to organize the unorganized organization. Sorry.

But Burger Island seems pretty good, and I recommend keeping it for this month -- if only because it's been the location in the Event Listing all along, so switching it now might lead to (additional) confusion.

Plus, if your plans take you towards Denton, you're already halfway there.

I don't know if I'll make it. Got a lot of plans that day already, including Karaoke later Saturday night. I may be asleep or otherwise semiconscious. So I expect y'all to have a massive time and post pictures that make me decry my laziness, and swear to be there next time.

I am up for exploring, my car has a bad transmission, so I don't want to put the miles to denton on it. But if I could get a ride with someone that'd be great.

Unless the mail runs extremely early tomorrow (and I get that check), I won't be able to make it this month.

Hey everyone, good news~! I got a new computer so hopefully I'll be on more often and miss less meets. Life's been a bit hectic lately.... but I think things are starting to get back on track.

Your wish is my command: Karaoke at Senor Jalapeno's. Not one of my crazier Karaoke moments, but it's a start.

Meanwhile, I've been pretty much failing at UER. I totally missed the troll invasion (though I thoroughly enjoyed reading the aftermath). Meetup day is a week from tomorrow... is it going to be at Burger Island by default, or should I pick another random hangout?

Here's an idea -- how about Opening Bell Coffee in the Cedars neighborhood? There are plenty of "interesting" buildings in the area, plus there's the Trinity River and the new "standing wave" kayaking area. One thing of interest there is the old railroad trestle, which is soon to be partially demolished on one end, and turned into a bike trail.

Opening Bell is in the old Sears building, now "South Side on Lamar" lofts. It's a good example of what you can do with Swift-style architecture if you don't immediately call in the bulldozers. They have free wifi. Also in the building is Urban Market, where you can grab some cheap snacks in case you're not hungry enough (or are too broke) to get something from the coffee shop.

A block from Cedars Station, so the FW contingent can leave their cars at home. $3.25 gas FTW.

I second the South Side option. The chances of me showing up increase by an order of magnitude if the meeting is there.

No matter where you go, there you are
