I have a few packs of steel wool sitting downstairs now. If I don't end up actually exploring tonight, I'll be indulging my inner pyromaniac instead

Did someone say a few packs of steel wool?
Burn it BURN IT! you know you want to!

Tie it to some wire, light up and spin. Fun for everyone!

Ah, dammit, I bought all that steel wool especially for burning, then forgot the lot of it by the front door at home when I headed out. Next week, it is!

I'm not very good at light painting/artificial illumination, though I do occasionally carry a set of all-weather torches that I've sanded down the outside of (for diffusion) to light things. Then I flail my flashlight(s) about when needed. Still learning.

Main light is from the hole above, some additional fill provided by my wee LED flashlight.

Pitch black and boarded, totally artificially lit and sadly looks it. Must work harder.

Nearly pitch black, first light coming from a few cracks in a boarded window at the top stairs landing. Two lanterns set up on bottom steps and near my feet. Obscenely long exposure and still, lighting looks flat. And now this is demo'd so I can't try again.

Also wholly boarded (without my light, I couldn't see a few inches in front of me) predawn. Don't actually mind the artificial look here because I can pretend the lights which I perched in the sills are actually sunlight. Sort of. use your imagination

Pitch black, interior room with no windows. Not a fan of that foul blueish hue my LED flashlight gives off. Must find alternative when not using the lanterns.

I can't take credit for setting up the ridiculous amount of lighting in this one- full on during the day on a ground level hallway that was boarded light-tight and back. I took the photo. Lighting composition is not mine. You can tell, because it doesn't look awful.

I'm gonna stick around and try to learn a thing or fifteen from all you guys. Love the shots I'm seeing here, Flaming Dude in particular.

Get down, girl, go 'head, get down.

A somewhat unsubtle painting of foreground content. I wasn't terribly pleased with this shot in terms of composition, but here 'tis anyway, as an excuse for a little star trail action.

That shot of the old bed frame in the cone of snow is fantastic, love it.

Those star trails above look good! yet to try a 1-2 hour exposure, maybe once I get my vintage Fujica 35mm SLR I will be able to do some ultra long exposures out in the country. Away from city lights that would otherwise ruin it. If I try to do a very long exposure with my Minolta it will eat the battery which at $20 a pop isn't feasible.

I'm not sure if light painting is quite the word, but here's a shot from last night, anyway. There's a light sitting on the floor behind me, with one of the Fenix lantern-style diffusers attached, and I'm holding a very dim orange-diffused light in my hands.

I've selected a white balance that rendered everything warm - straight from the camera, on auto-WB, it was very cool, and gave the image an unintended harshness.

The warm colour on your face just sets of the whole photo, freakin cool. Having said that, there are so sooooo many cool pics in this thread and some dynamite brickwork.

I am loving these steel wool drain shots. Maybe it's just the novelty, but they're very cool indeed.

It is a novelty. And last night was my first time burning the steel-wool. So I'm no longer a virgin, it felt great and damn addictive

Had a play this evening with steel wool, and despite injuring happydude198 with molten steel, no fires were started.
