For the minivan question: With all the debris and trash down there, I'd say Detroit had to experience a flood at some point. I can't imagine seeing branches being dragged in there by homeless, let alone a minivan. A thought...

I need suggestions on how to light up this basement well for my next trip. I have two LED work lights, one mag lite and on uer keychain light. Please help me for saturday.

thanks ahead of time. Right now i stand behind the camera and shake the light and high light important things. I have a point and shoot that allows me 15 seconds without much noise, i can hack it to do 30 seconds but it looks terrible.

Thinking ahead! I keep meaning to do that

In that first shot, with the columns, maybe you could put a dimmer light off to the side of the camera, to light up the foreground, then use a bright light from behind the columns to throw shadows over the floor and/or roof?

For the third shot, a light behind the door could be dramatic, kinda like this shot. Maybe put a light on the other side of the doorway, too, off to the side so the light spills out in the other direction to the door.

Hope that's useful!

thanks that helps a lot! Definetly will try some of those things. Its a bit hard to set up because the water is mid tigh deep, but duct tape might work on the walls to hold up lights.

Psssst.

(Mind the crappy composition and terrible lines)

Oh, also.. the hooks on the two fluros (which I missed out on the mad deals) are endlessly useful. Hook them onto the support beams on the roof. Since you're lucky enough to own two, you could hide one behind the pillar, and the other off to the side.

One thing I find with those fluros is that, if you're holding them behind the camera, hold it off to side. Or else light it gives off will make the photo look very flat (which is happening in your photos, it looks like). By putting it off to the side, you compliment the tiny shadows created by the texture of the wall.

My first attempt at light painting.
I used a 25mm prime at f16 for 65 seconds ( BULB ). I lit the chimneys with a vivitar zoom thyristor 285 with a red, green and then blue gel.
I've had to do heavy PP to get the colors to show correctly but in turn it introduced alot of noise and made the moon look yellow. I think I should have strobed each chimney a few more times and from different angles to get a better result. This lens also seems to get ALLOT of flare!

On the lens flare front, try removing any filters you have on the lens. It doesn't always help, but it's certainly worth trying.

Ya that was the first thing I did. I think it may just be my lens on small apertures. Wide open I don't usually get much.

Here's one I did with a normal flashlight with no filter.
It's a bit blotchy but I kinda like it.

Hello there-

First light painting shot I ever took-

But it was short lived. Everyone else I explored with was using color. I started to just use "white light" and mainly illuminated the things I found.

But in the last few weeks I've started using color again. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I'm having fun with every attempt.

Sorry for the big post, I'm happy to be here. Thanks for having me.

3 flashlights and a mini led lantern, with light diffusers on them. the hardest part was balancing everything on the toilet seat....

Stolen light! Snoops had gone further up the tunnel while I shot a junction downstream. As he set up, his light waved around the tunnel from around the bend, so I plonked the camera down and guessed an exposure. Not much thought in this one, but hey, I like a classic drain-lit-from-around-a-corner shot.

no need to point out it wasn't intentional. Accidental photos can be just as good, and sometimes even better.

Agreed, it's nice to see something a little different.
