It's funny how the old shots have a character that wouldn't be quite the same with the later, more refined techniques. Maybe it's just that you've had them up for so long it's a nostalgia trip to see them again

A bunch with gear list, all shot on a Nikon d200 with a Tokina 12-24:



Buffalo Auditorium, two Garrity spots, 10 minutes and a whole lot of running around. The bluish light coming from the top left side is the only natural light in the shot, coming through a crack in a boarded window. This is a composite of two shots, the two lights shining from the far end of ice level are from another exposure.





Canada Day special. Flash with blue gel, maple leaf painted with the red LED on my headlamp.





I think the technique here is pretty obvious. It's a Garrity spot if that matters.





Garrity spot, and a red flare (Kowalski's idea). Tip #1 for using flares in damp tunnel environments: stand upwind, and work fast - smoke backs up quickly, and takes a while to dissipate.





Garrity spot, flash with blue gel, and some generic flashlight hanging by its wrist strap from my tripod (I usually leave a light hanging there so I can find my way back without using my headlamp).

Cute. Sorta.

Light painting with a hand-held fluoro. I knew I hadn't quite got this right when I took it - If I'd had the time, I'd have done it over again. Nice location, though.

Not as exciting as some of the other photos here...

Approximately 1.5 minute exposure on Ilford Delta 100 Professional film, processed in Rodinal 1+50 for 14 minutes.

I was inside the display case with an LED torch diffused with a clear film canister that I cut to fit onto the torch.

The Flaming Dude

Blue and Green coverings over a Speedlite 430 flash. Body traced using a orange LED penlight.

Blue and Gold

Flash fired into lamp, and then covered with blue gel and fired against the wall repeatedly.

Flaming Dude Resting

Orange LED Penlight body trace and fire detail. Flash fired into lamp. Bounce flash off of roof for overall lighting.

Red Skeleton

Red covered flash fired at roof and walls.

I always love the flaming dude! I think the first one I saw was on a motorbike? So, do you trace your own body? Someone else's body? Just draw it freehand?

I trace my own body.. it gets easier with practice. Perhaps the hardest part is switching hands when tracing out each arm.
