How long does steel wool last when it's lit and swinging? How much should I use in this "jig" you guys created? I just don't want the site to go up in flames from the sparks. hehe.

Yeah, I'd have said about ten seconds, too, at least for the main sparks. The core might glow a little longer, though. Actually, I found five seconds was a good exposure time, as ten started to get a bit messy and confused.

As for starting fires, that's probably a valid concern - if you have a small fire extinguisher around, it wouldn't hurt to take it along. I had one long blade of dry grass catch, but it burned out in a few seconds without spreading.

Oh, I'll be experimenting with multi-color flourescent tubes this fall. Mostly done under high power lines in my area. Got the idea from MoleNet94. Stay tuned!

I've been waiting to put my boxes of fluros towards something productive, thanks for the idea!

I'm new here, so be gentle with me. First time I've light painted and it was just a simple technique since I couldn't do anything really crazy because of a knee injury. I had a friend hold his flashlight against the wall to bounce the light towards the crib. Got A LOT to learn, but right now because of the injury I'm very limited to what I can do. This was a ten second exposure, flashlight used was a simple Coleman LED.

"ancient lathe"
The first one was lit with an Eveready 2 D cell Xenon torch and 2 flashes from a purple gelled flash unit.

"Light-scape in blue minor"
The second is using a magenta spirograph wheel (made by Man_underground) and blue cold cathodes.

Both were done at the old Box Hill brickworks in Melbourne, Australia.

The light shining off the bars is interesting, but I'd personally try to get some dramatic shadows from the bars, too.

I wanted to play with my new cold cathodes, but the battery pack let me down. This is all I got from a frustrating night.

Those chinese lanterns look quite interesting, but the reflection on the water is what makes this shot. I spent my night exploring an extremely boring 1.6 metre RCP here in Frankston. So you had better luck than I did!

Color is from photo manipulation? Or do you have another secret to making color? Wonder if copper wool would make a green effect...??

Photoshop, something different, BUT! I did buy food dye and soak the steel wool, dry it, then burn it, ..then nothing

Steel wool in the death star! Most cool.

..it was being there, lights up the joint like "xmas". And I do have a version that is overkill with the steel wool, it's not pretty.
