| | | Can you drive it to the ops building? I thought they put concrete blockades across the road at the gate. If you do want to drive up at night you should think about a good muffler (which would help in other UE situations) and making your vehicle able to run dark (no lights on the display, no taillights, no headlights; nothing with the flip of a switch).

You can't get all the way up there, just park in one of the driveways where the PMQ's used to be. As for muffler/lights, I don't have an ass rocket on my car, and I use my running lights (headlights only) when I go up there at night. And doing conversions like what you just described isn't cheap. But most cars have the option of running lights, running/display lights and full lights (heads, tails, display).

| | | well were going to find out tonight i suppose, but i guess the villa, the actual villa, the one thats still open and functional had/has a basement where back in the good ol' days they used to throw the mentally handicapped for some most excellent shock therapy! (my grandmother used to work at the radar in the day >.>) thought i might throw out that little piece of info

| | | I was talking to one of the guys at work today, he was up at the Villa Tuesday night, and apparently the basement is dried up. We didn't go down that far on Monday due to lack of sunlight, so I'm going back up on Saturday to confirm his statement.

| | | I hope to be in the area sometime this weekend. I can make up for the lack of sunlight with the abundance of spotlight. I'd love to see the basement but I'm guessing its pretty rancid down there.

| | | I'm not sure. I'm not too worried though. The big sitcking point for me crawling through the vent hole was that it was slippery on the otherside throughout the winter. Hopefully, the ice has melted.

| | | The big sticking point for me is that I'm short and if by some chance I get in but can't pull myself out I'm absolutely buggered.

Yeah, that's still the only "safe" way in. Somebody tied a rope onto a bent girter to climb into one of the windows, I say screw that.

And yes, the ice has melted, it's just that damned piece of metal in the middle that I hate.

| | | If its a smaller section of sheet metal from one of the old ducts you could move it out of the way, but its not is it? Is it a large section or part of the frame that held up the ducts?

Yep, its a pretty solid piece of steel. I went about half way down the stairs and in pretty sure the basement is still very much so flooded, theres still ice on it. The ground level may not be flooded but below ground level still has water I think.

| | | Its still flooded? That place is like an old ice house; it wouldn't surprise me if there was some ice in the middle of August, the last time I went up (in August) I could see my breath while in the building. Well thats thick concrete for ya.

Wouldn't driving around in a car with no lights get you in way more trouble than driving around in a normal car? I mean if you've modified your car for 'silent' then it kinda proves how much effort you've gone to for it. Otherwise you can just be some idiot who was looking around...

| | | Not that it actually matters, 'cause people go up there all the time, even older folks to walk their dogs. Not to mention kids drinking and screwing around on their ATV's.
