I don't know why I didn't think to post this before, but I found a website a while ago about the Pine Tree Line. It has photos from most of the 44 sites spread across Canada while they were in operation and after they were shut down. There are also maps and other interesting things as well.

Sometimes I forget that if it's in a private location in the DB, new members can't see it.

The Pine Tree Line is cool. I'd like to develop a greater interest in it someday..

the only two I know of right now are the Beaver Bank CFS and the one in Lac St. Dennis.

I think there was one in Newfoundland that was built on the edge of a cliff and during a heavy wind the radar was blown into the ocean.

I don't know about the wind damage, but yes, there is one in St. John's, Newfoundland. This facility was referred to as Red Cliff. Manned by USAF personnel, this site was operational from 1954 to 1961.

Place probably isn't as dangerous inside as Redtape is though. I imagine that's why it's wide open like that.

Looks more like the ruins at York Shore than Beaverbank.

Yeah, 'cept it's on a cliff instead of a shoreline. It'd be nice to get up to Newfoundland again so I can check that stuff out.

That and other places; I've got some Newfie friends who claim that there are some old fishing towns that were almost completely abandoned that last time they were up.

Besides, they also have that big provincial park, what's it called?

Well, they have a few provincial parks, if I knew which side of the island you were talking about, then I might have an idea. Also: there are three other radar sites on the island too. St. Anthony (Dog Fever/Mother Goose/Grandpa) run by the USAF, Gander (Crystal/Eyebrow/Butterscotch) RCAF, and Stephanville (Enrage/Jitney/Eyelash/Capable) also USAF.

Make sure you bundle up then. Cause I went up there for my first time in June of '98, and while it was blistering hot here in NS, it was -10 in Corner Brook.

Gros Morne! That's the one I was thinking of; I know it's not UE, but it would be great to get some photos there.

Yeah, I went through there for a school trip in grade 7. We had to wait two hours for a moose to get off the road. Beautiful surroundings though.

Someone I knew was chased by a moose while camping there. The landscape (from what I seen) is amazing.
