| | | Yeah, that'd be it. I have no idea what access would be like though. Or whether it's still in use or not.

| | | How long ago was that photo taken? If it was recent then it probably isn't abandoned, the building wouldn't be in such excellent shape otherwise.

The photo is from 2004.
The PTL website shows the closure date as 1 August 1990.
CFS Barrington carried on with its assigned role until it ceased operations on 1 August 1990. A small detachment of personnel remained afterwards to prepare the location as a new Canadian Coastal Radar site. |

| | | If its RCAF then the the DND would be pissed if they found anyone sneaking around there.

Even if I told them I was going ot be late for dinner with my radical anarchist buddies? There are some really cool looking radar sites around, but the problem is getting to them. The ones that are still around are either blocked up, run by the DND, or so far out that you would have a hell of a time getting to them. But if someone got the funds together or had the time and transport to do it then that would be a different stroy entirely.

| | | That's how I found the one in Beaver Bank; at night, in the fog, down a road that was usually blocked, and we were scared shitless.

| | | My friends went out to the base the other night. When they returned to their vehicle the RCMP were waiting for them. They put a small scare into them but eventually let them go without a fine/charges. Gave them the trespassing talk.. So be careful out there.

| | | That's why I usually don't go UE'ing at night. Too many cops to run into, or MP's, depending where you're at. I'd like to get out to that boat on the Ultramar Wharf some time soon though. At least if I go there, I can park over by Glubes or something.

I don't mind going at night. They were in Beaverbank doing any UE. They had beer and probably weren't as subtle as they could have been. I don't mind night stuff at all, you just have to be a little more aware.. and watch your step.

My friends went out to the base the other night. When they returned to their vehicle the RCMP were waiting for them. |
Despite the almost cliche placement of the "this area is under video surveillance" sign, the place really is under some kind of surveillance. Last time I was out there the owners or someone employed by them decided to fore go calling the RCMP and came up themselves, never caught us, though they searched for a good while.

| | | I was checking out my map book the other day, and discovered that the orange boat at Wrights Cove is actually on DND property, Ultramar used to own it. But I guess the gov't bought it back.

| | | I think the people at the Senior's Home probably call the owner who calls the RCMP... You know old people just look out the window all day, I'm sure they probably alert someone whenever they see a suspicious vehicle up there.

| | | I don't blame them; people going up to the old radar base in the middle of the night near an old folks home. I'd say that parking the car where it won't be seen on the road or from the old folks home and then sneaking through the open area where the PMQs and the Recreational Buildings used to be, then walking up to the base.

| | | My car is low to the ground anyways, so you can't see it from the home. Nor can you see it on the way back from the ops building.
