|  | | | Has anyone ever heard of the HMCS Fraiser? It's an old steamer that they decommissioned a number of years back and planned on scrapping it.
My old man served aboard it and was asked if he wanted to be a tour guide (I guess they are using it as some sort of really rusty museum). He declined, but he's trying to see if the two of us can go down to "Bridgeport" or wherever the hell to take some photos on and around the old ship.

| | | | I just did a wiki search on the ship's name (which is HMCS Fraser), and apparently her status is "sunk". Also it says she was a River-class destroyer that served from 1937-1940.
I'm probably looking at the wrong ship, but I can do more digging to find out. Are you sure she was a HMCS or was she just a HMS?
EDIT:
My bad, I was just looking at the wrong Fraser, she IS an HMCS, served from 1957-1994. Probably recommissioned in honour of the one that sank in the Atlantic. It also says that she's being held at the dock on the LaHave River in Bridgewater. I know exactly where this ship is, I've been wanting to get down there since last summer when I did a delivery down there. She's a St. Laurent-class destroyer.

| | | | I stop and have a gawk every time I'm down that way, although I've never been on board. She doesn't look that bad from the outside, and I hope they are doing something productive with it like tours instead of it just sitting there doing nothing.

These are two pictures I found on Google Images. They're not great but they'll give you some impression of the boats docked in Bridgewater. There is more than one ship there. They're not permanently but have seemingly become so. People in the town call them eyesores because they're not properly maintained.

Shipyard's has been a hangout of mine since I was 16 or 17.

HMCS Fraser (DDH 233) was a St. Laurent-class destroyer that served in the Royal Canadian Navy and later the Canadian Forces from 1957-1994.
She was commissioned into the RCN on 28 June 1957 and initially carried the pennant number DDE 233 as a destroyer escort. She underwent conversion to a destroyer helicopter escort (DDH) in the mid-1960s and was officially reclassed with pennant DDH 233 on 22 October 1966.
Fraser was selected by the Canadian Forces for the Destroyer Life Extension (DELEX) program and completed this refit on 28 May 1982.
She was decommissioned from active service in the CF on 5 October 1994.
Fraser was was sold to the Artificial Reef Society of Nova Scotia, who planned to sink her for use as a diving attraction off the province's South Shore. These plans are currently on hold as the vessel is docked on the Lahave River in Bridgewater for possible conversion to a museum ship, should funding become available.

HMCS Comorant (781) was a Bird-class patrol vessel built by Birdland Boat Works. Midland, Ontario in 1956 and served until 1963. It was sold to a religious mission, but the ship never sailed to the final destination.
She was decommissioned in 1997 and sold to United States owners for diving operations, although she has remained docked in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia alongside HMCS Fraser (DDH 233).

Yeah, they tore down the Villa itself back in 2004. It seems that every time I go up there it's getting too dark out. Oh well, I have a good light now, so time of day no longer matters. Also: feel free to put up your pics. If I had a newer camera, I'd do the same, as well as take pics of other places I know of in that area.

How did you get up on top of that little bit jutting out from the main building? The last time I was up there were cinderblocks covering up the cleft in it so people couldn't climb onto it.
