Re: Admissions Quiz

I thought the quiz was funny and a little to easy...I remember reading a thread about it and it being discussed by the general public and if I remember right, the concensus was that it was a good idea. I also remember reading a post somewhere about the quiz being in the works, again in the public forum, and I didn't see any objections then. So why all the fuss now? (except maybe Marks objection- I hate being used as an example myself).

Also, I was trying to post the following in a thread that disappeared, I think it might have merged with this one so here goes....

I might not be paying enough attention or something, but I don't know what the problem is that a lot of people seem to have with this site and the way it is run. Here is my take.

I am not familiar with many forums and am thus speaking from limited experience, however I DO appreciate this forum in general and it is the only forum I've found interesting enough to view and post to almost daily (and donate to).

If you are not happy with the site or think it sucks or think its moderators/administrators are tyrannical assholes then leave. Post elsewhere. Goodbye. As far as I know no one is forcing you to visit or post or contribute in any way.

If you have constructive criticism or ideas to improve upon the site let them be known. But don't bitch, whine, cry, resort to name calling, or posting in ALL CAPS with lots of exclamation points!!!!!!!!!!!!. It's annoying. Try to act mature and responsible even if you aren't in real life.

Try to post meaningful, interesting items that add something of value to this site and the community as a whole. I am getting a little tired of reading threads like this one, but I often do and felt like responding.

Hoping for more exploring and less whining,

xrahy

There seem to be two major groups, those who do not care/don't see it as an issue and those who are for changing/scrapping it.

The voices arguing in it's favor seem to be a smaller minority.

Or maybe they're just not as noisy and are staying out of it.

Personally, I am all for free choice - if this forum decides to become very autoritarian about what UE is and is not, and will strictly limit what opinions people may hold - people are free to find another forum.

That is why I have started a thread in the "Other" section focused on alternative local forums of other groups.

[Admin. Note: It's fine to mention that, but let's not derail into an argument about advertising other boards. -Ninj]

[Anymouse Note: Oops - yeah, I got off-topic, but I think this thread is kinda out of control already - seems to be rather free-for-all on the whole "why aren't talking about exploring?" issue]

its pretty obvious

i have been quietly reading this forum for 2 years then about 6 or 7 months ago I finally join, and there was never really a problem

something happened about 2 1/2 months ago , I can't really pinpoint it, but everyone got angry!!!

its started around the time ironically when Av or jester posted that thread about people who had the most posts deleted, then the Rob thing happened, then the brown nose stars, the SHANE, now this waste of time quiz

Av and mods, go back about 4 months , make the forum that way again and everything will be fine.

Mike: Alas, time travel is unlikely. What are your thoughts on the quiz? Any ideas how to make it acceptable to you, or do you think it's just a fundamentally bad idea?

I believe this site is less than 2 years old by quite a margin - I visited it when it was brand new, and was immediately flamed off of here by the moderators (check the "UEA.CA" thread on Canada Other). I haven't seen any substantial change.

Although I was slowly learning to like this site lately, it seemed like there was a good number of level-headed people discussing issues.. but that terrible quiz that failed me a question because I didn't answer "punch them in the teeth" about a tagger (I'm not a violent person). I think the entire quiz was quite out of line - and it really colours me view of what the organizers of this website are hoping to accomplish.

If the quiz will limit the teeny-bopper posts, then I am all for it. However, I have to say that this is Av's site, and this decision should be his.

i tell you ninj. I felt that it should be given to people who

A) have just joined the forum as part of the sign up,

and B ) if someone is a flagrat forum hassle they should get it as there second warning

I was mad that some one like myself who has been coming to this forum for years and been posting for the last 6 or 7 seven months ( and as well I think i have proven my worth as an explorer) needed to take it

its a good idea for new users and like i said a multipul forum offender

And being Av's site - the name is quite misleading.. sounds like it belonged to the community it catered to.

I think someone summarized it quite well already - but I'd like to add that it does convey the feeling of overall distrust. (as if not having a "trusted" brownie icon wasn't enough).

I don't think that we should be dictating the rules in such a black and white fashion - there is shades of gray here. Some people believe in slightly different ethics than others, but we are all essentailly working towards the same goal. I can't see what the quiz was hoping to accomplish.

The quiz was written to tell people what the right opinion is. Av said it himself earlier in this thread.

Telling people what to believe is very important. Otherwise people might get free will and start disagreeing with you.

well your a different person than me.

Look , I like UER, i dont like UER in the now.

I stick by my guns, something happened not to long ago , and to many rules and regs all at once,

it just took the happy go lucky feel out of this forum

the selfphoto thread is so out of control , who cares if it goes off topic at this point.

self photos is more like a living room convo now, and thats the beauty of it, sure keep posts on point, but hell give your members some room to move ( like we used to have) and all this whining will go away, isnt that what we all want

Edit: just wanted to add this, I asked Av a few months back if I could mirror of this forum too, his response was to tell me that abandon is a verb ( abandonspaces)

I knew it was a verb, abadonspaces means abandon the space , or in other words " get out so i can explore" but its that tedium that made me just start my own forum and not even want to deal with av and the rules.

and its sad cause i do consider alot of the UER members like my extended family.

Could someone please lock this shitty, stupid thread? Christ. The poor mods have to sift through all this shit, and the other people out here looking for legitimate information and feedback within this thread have to read about how everyone is pissed at everyone else. What is this? When I got to this forum, it was a happy place! I liked it here! Maybe its just the shitty weather, or maybe there are too many people here now, but it's making me relatively sick. I dont even feel like it's worth keeping up to date on things anymore. Its more like watching a soap opera. Every damn thread turns into a fight.

The thread was locked, but this is something that a number of people, mods included, feel is improtant enough that it needs to be discussed out in the open, right now.

If it isn't dealt with at this point, we'll have an even worse blow-up in 2 weeks, and then another one after that, and another... until the entire thing burns and everyone's pissed at everyone else.

Alright - this is unrelated, but I don't know where to post it. I am going to quit posting to this site as of now. I just read an excellent quote from an interview with Ninj on the abandonspaces.net website, and it reminded me exactly why I was in this..

Ninj said that
This hobby consists of a lot more than just poking about in abandoned buildings and storm drains and hanging out on web boards trying to impress people. Being an urban explorer is a whole way of looking at the world, where every ladder, door, window, grate and hole in the ground is a
possible portal to adventure.

That's why I got into this - all this petty messageboard stuff is really just more irritating than anything - and the winter weather inhibiting my ability to do much of the UE I would otherwise be doing, causes me to be sitting here any contributing to this mess.

So many people here are here because of this board - and I'd like to think that I am in this for the exploration - so this board doesn't matter. Seeya!
