If it is his forum, why is it called Urban Exploration Resource.

If it was his forum it would be called Av's blog or something.

I am a big one for truth in advertising I guess.

What ever happened to UE being discussed in newgroups. There moderators have some control but it is still a democratic space.

(Filled to brim with pron spam, I know.)

Yeah, I vote for a rename of this site to "Avatar-X's Exploration World" or something - don't deceive the people of the UE community into believing it is their own public forum for discussion. I would like to think that anything designed to "unite the UE community" would be essentially owned and run by the UE community, no?

Hey, in the interests of free speech - I said my opinion, and you do not have to read it. I am only concerned about the free speech of fellow explorers being limited here. And as soon as I find out the URLs to the forums of all the people who ordinarily post here, I will leave, as you suggested - and not return.

Fuck you, F8l.

Fuck you, Anymouse.

I would have come in on this sooner, but I was out exploring. So, we have all this because something new happened. A QUIZ! DEAR LORD, CHANGE! What ever shall we do?!?

You all spout off about how horrible this forum is - but answer me this; why do you keep bringing your sorry asses back? Do us all a favour and logout, and never come back. I'm tired of the shit you keep stirring up. You think you wasted 2 minutes of your precious single life on the UE quiz? You just wasted 10 minutes of my life because I had to read through your brainless crap.

Go away, kids, you bother me.

Sure. Be my guest. Sounds pretty cool, actually.

I'd be interested in knowing how the free speech of explorers has been affected here. From what I can tell, no posts in this thread have been deleted. Posts that have been deleted in the past have, from what I've seen, always been properly justified by the moderator or administrator who deleted it.

And Skaught, cool it. Insults were being flung around long before I posted here. Don't jump on me for defending my point of view.

What in the Hell is wrong with some of you people? I thought some of the quiz was dumb, but I answered it with a smirk on my face, got the first 10 questions right, and wa la I'm here. You see I like testing the system and pushin the mods buttons, but without rules and mods to enforce the rules, I could never break them and take pleasure in being a minor nuisance from time to time. I just think it is silly how people are getting all violent and shit over a forum. Unbunch your panties everyone!

I have to agree with f8l here. UE has turned almost into a corporation of sorts. Its not a hobby anymore, its a hassle. Theres a whole bullshit code of ethics to go along with it these days. Do this, but don't do that. Post this, but don't post that. Be sure to do this when you explore and do it this way, not any other way. Seriously. I'm afraid to go out with any of the "esteemed" members here for fear of being nagged to death while exploring. When I explore, I make noise, I have fun and I don't care if I break something or take something in the process. I take it, if you already broke the law getting into the place, you might as well make it worth while.

Then theres the UER gestapo. Its gotten REALLY bad lately. Theres a couple nice mods that I like, the ones who are quiet and keep to themselves. Like Tux and Noah. Then theres the control freaks like Shane, Krazy, Jester and so on. You step one word out of line, or go more than 2 posts off topic and chop chop chop, deleted. If a thread goes on for too long and doesn't appeal to any of the mods anymore, chop chop chop, gone. Avatar, I've got no beef with him. I think he's a great guy, hes got alot of talent and such. He really needs to revise his moderator crew. Seriously. You're message board moderators, not internet ethics cops.

Now, I'm sure someone is going to quote about 5 different things from this post and point out my various flaws or how I am wrong about something and then gloat in my face. Oh well. Anyway, thats my shit. Back to the shadows.

Yes I have to agree there. Messagebaord moderators are there to moderate the messageboard, not be the drain police (they live inside my head).

And really why are moderators needed so badly? There are no moderators on the internet as a whole.

Well... this is quite the meltdown.
I still remain neutral on the subject. Hell, I like all of you guys.

My advertising / design senses have kicked in on the subject. I just can't keep them down. It's pretty obvious to me that most of what is going on isn't about the quiz. I think the quiz has just served as the proverbial back breaking straw.
Poor camel.

In retrospect, I believe two things could have been thought about in the quiz's execution to help prevent this situation.

1. By making everyone who already contributes to the forum take the test, it has made some feel as though after all they offer they need to be re-evaluated. I could see this raising the ire and offending the sensibilities of some. Perhaps if the quiz only covered new people to the forum it might have been better received. of course, it could have opened another can of worms no doubt.

2. The quiz itself obviously has some "grey" areas that are based on opinion and a black and white sensibility which of course is going to offend some. By making a quiz with "right/wrong" answers in the first place, it seems to put hard laws to UE. Being a hobby, many people practice different aspects of UE in different ways. Having a test for UE in general can be taken as a sort of drivers license for valid explorers. I could see some people reacting with a what gives them the right to tell me what is and isn't UE.

Obviously since there seems to be tension here. I don't personally believe that the quiz itself is the problem, but perhaps the execution of the quiz was taken poorly because these points were either not thought out or were discarded.
I honestly believe Av is doing what is right, I just think when one is dealing with so many people, it's difficult to implement anything that could be considered political without considering how it might be taken based on it's design.

Again, I love all you people, I will remain here to watch from the corner.

Excellent points, "Tootie"!

I think Urban Exploration, for me - is a form of self-expression, something that I do not think should be regulated and mandated by any UE "corporation" (perfect analogy)

Also great observation, SolidShadow - I think that you nailed the cause of this dispute on the head.

I've been exploring with a well known group. this was our first time exploring together. We met on this board. while exploring we found a wheel chair in a stairwell, now they didn't care what happened to it, and I didn't either, but cause we both met VIA this forum we hesitated for a second, then they said " what are your ethics" i said " like UER ethics" they said " yeah " to which I replied " I have none do as you please, i don't care, " to which the wheel chair rolled down the stairs, nothing else was done that day , we didn't burn down the building , but the fact that we both worried what the other would think based on preconcieved notions born from being a member of this forum SUCKS!!

P.S. the wheelchair was not hurt in the stunt it was involved in

I don't think it was Av who locked the thread... I can't be sure, but I'm fairly certain. Besides, it really wasn't turning sour on him, it was turning sour on a change to the forum.

I think we all need to take a deep breath, shut our browsers down, and come back fresh and well-rested tomorrow. I know the huge issue is how us Nazi moderators delete posts left, right, and center for absolutely no reason what-so-ever. I really don't see that happening - but I'm willing to look at the evidence of these legitimate posts being removed by a power-hungry admin or mod.

Now, I'm off to wash my swastika flag and SS uniform.

What the hell is the matter with you people?

The mods are fine, Av is great, if you dont like 'em, FUCK OFF.

If they delete your posts, they are probobly in the right, so just:

a. Make better posts that actully deal with UE (you know, the activity the forum is centered around)

or

b. Fuck off, who cares anyway, we dont have to listen to your horseshit, and you save yourself some time from looking at the forum, that you could be using to explore.

It seems like to many people have been using this forum as a crutch for being an armchair UE'r, and spending your time discussing pointless what if... crap, and not enough time exploring. I know I need to get out exploring more, lots more.

I have been watching the amount of actual exploration related posts decline, and the whiny "Shane did this", "Av., do this", etc. posts go up, and it is idiotic. If the forum continues to sink into whining, and float away from UE, I fear it will alienate many of it's members, and perhaps pick up a group of LOL, 733t TwinTurboChipotleIntelass dipshits.

Go out, explore your cities and towns, have a good time, simmer the fuck down.

Fuck sakes. This forum is going to hell. There's a lot of good people on here, and a lot good info, but I had just about enough of reading people's shit, and that goes for everyone including some of the mods (although I've never had a problem with any of 'em personally, I still disagree with the tactics of some of them... not to name names...).

On a bit of a sidenote, I think I'm going to see about putting a forum up on my own site' mostly because I need more than one of Av's private boards... although I will admit the current state of affairs here has prompted it somewhat. At least with my own board I'll be able to discuss local UE without seeing this kind of shit going down all the time.
