We spend so much time surfing UE sites, chatting about, back and forth etcetera. This quick little test has served well to at minimum remind us all of some basic rules for this forum and to rekindle some thoughts on UE as well. Personally it was fun and shouldn't really insult anybody at all. We all need reminders from time to time and this quiz has accomplished this. It's also a great learning tool that will educate some new people as to some of the expectations of UE principles. Although new here, I have UE'd for years and without somebody telling me, I have developed the attitude to take only pictures, leave only footprints. This quiz has driven that message home, and reinforced some basic housekeeping rules.

To all the people in this thread who have nothing better to do but bitch and moan about the whopping 5 minutes it took to do this:

Go cry somewhere else. This is *not* a democracy.

I didn't even read the friggin splash page and still got 10 out of 10.

If you don't like the rules, go make your own site somewhere else... and see how many people follow.

Oh, what's that you say? You don't have the time to custom code your own forum and website? And you don't have the money to set up hosting?

Well, stop biting the hand that feeds you and go f@#king cry somewhere else.

You crybabies are disgusting. Boo Hoo.

Av: I don't remember a vote about the quiz, and I don't think there's anything wrong with people objecting to it after the fact, especially if they're willing to do it politely and reasonably. (An admittedly rare circumstance, but it is conceivable that it could happen.) What harm does it do to let people voice their dissenting opinions? We're better off if we figure out a middle ground that makes most people happy than if we just tell the 20 percent that don't like it that it's too late and they should shut up and like it.

It was funny to see so many people say they "only" got questions wrong because they didn't take the time to read them properly. I guess the moral there is that it's a good idea to take the time to read and understand things before you respond.

I noticed some of the answers seem to involve numbers, even though the questions only involve letters. Like, the question presents options A, B, C and D, with D being "both 1 and 3" rather than "both A and C". It's pretty easy to figure out how to answer the question, but it could be worded better.

And I agree with Krazy that that one question about the abandoned school has three answers that aren't totally wrong.

I just wanted to say that I took the test twice (I didn't realize 'Dukes was still logged on, so I had to log on as me and redo the quiz). I passed twice and don't have a problem with "wasting" my time doing it. I thought the bribery for stars question was unfair because the logical choice isn't the correct one.

I agree on the star bribery question. That's really a silly question and should be removed. I also feel that lockpicking is a grey area.

You have a point, and I don't have a problem with that.

However, the objections posted here were in the form of "This quiz is stupid. I hate it. Whine whine whine."

Not exactly what I want to hear.

Also, about the vote: There was like a 20-page discussion about ways to help keep information secure. In the end, after reading through it, I posted what we would do (secure the location DB and the quiz) and most people were OK with it, seeing it as a good compromise.

I see the quiz as a noble attempt at making people read the rules, I am curious to see if it actually works.

I run a message board, and I understand the frustration you guys feel. The bottom line is; you can't make everybody happy. Just keep in mind what you envisioned when you built the site.

The questions that I answered on the quiz would give a novice a good working knowledge of the politics of this site, as well as the basic rules followed by many urban explorers. It would be great if the quiz would also serve as a deterrant for those people not really interested in getting dirty, or leaving thier desk chairs, but maybe that is just my own, personal, pet peeve.

All in all, the quiz is not a bad thing, and doesn't really take that much time to answer. It's a small price to pay. Let's give Av and the mods a break.

yeah i feel that there were a lot of personal opinion gray-areas in that quiz.

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! You are right! Much gray-area in that quiz! Not fair quiz... silly questions... some answers made no sense!

AHHHH!

[Edit: But it does allow us to burn the rules back into our feeble minds...]

Let me just say this about the quiz.

I didn't read the rules. I have *never* read the rules. I sure hope thats not breaking one of the rules, but I wouldn't know, not having read them. You know what? I passed that test. Anyone could pass that test. It's not a matter of wasting valuable time so much as it is a waste in general. It's nothing more than a nuisance, like a three-minute pop-up ad you can't get around. It certainly won't keep anyone out of the forum. I actually take offense from it, especially since some of the questions pushed their authors' opinions onto me.

In summation: it doesn't matter that it only took three minutes of my time. I wouldn't want to have to wait three minutes to turn on my car, either. It's the simple fact that it serves *no* purpose.

I'm on about 6 or 7 other internet forums, and this is the only one I use that has such insecure, power-tripping moderators. Must be some sort of underlying self-esteem issues or something.

Seriously you guys, do we really need this much nazi-moderation? I think you guys are underestimating the ability of forums to self-moderate. This isn't even that big of a forum, do we really need so many moderators? And do those moderators have to be so anal?

I hate pointless "LOL" posts and whatnot as much as the next guy, but browsing through the forums it seems as though almost a fifth of the posts has been edited, moved, or deleted by a moderator, and thats just ridiculous.

Exactly, that quiz was mostly really obvious common sense stuff. The only real point to the quiz was our beloved moderators letting everyone know whos boss.

"Not a big forum", f8l? Do you realize there are nearly 3000 registered members? Over 500 posts a day? an average of 30 people browsing the site at any given time?

It may not be as big as genmay, but it's pretty big in my opinion.

This has nothing to do with power tripping. Like I already said about 5 times, THIS WAS DONE BECAUSE THIS IS WHAT THE COMMUNITY WANTED.

Now, i'm going to go back to my power tripping and delete random posts! rah! that's what all mods do!
