So i have a couple housemates. We all get along good. I just had this conversation with one of them, we will call him Tom.

He calls me up on the phone and tell me he had just spoken to a friend of his. His friend had some advice on how to keep safe from the covid-19. You see his friend had a brother who knew a trick to stay healthy. Whenever there was a cold or a flu going around you need to suck on or lick copper. He kept a penny in his mouth for most of the day and he never got a cold or the flu in his life.

Now Tom and I get along well and he comes to me with stuff on occasion if he needs help or advice. He is sheltered, a little innocent but smart.

I did not condescend to him or make fun of him. I explained a bit about how correlation does not mean causation. About how the story had some basis in fact, copper can be used on surfaces as a natural antimicrobial.

At the end of the conversation he said to me "you just don't know what to believe anymore" and it broke my heart.

I felt terrible.

We talked about what you could do to stay healthy and I think he felt better.

I don't know guys. I just don't know.

What a great idea, let's all put pennies in our mouths! If you know someone who doesn't have any, share!

I've never contacted Corona. And, I'm a copper Smith!

Seems like, the actual two schools of thought, are. Let the virus run its course. Deaths will happen. Especially to elderly and the immune deficient. Or, try to control it, and see a world economic recession, and possible collapse.

That people that are in charge, in effect: all 3 presidential candidates and 90% of the legislature are all in the high risk group.

Not going to happen.

Seriously, a CARDIOLOGIST'S EDITORIAL (read: opinion based on no primary research) published in a 3rd-world E-newspaper?

Use your brain.
It's a BSL-4 agent... the CDC doesn't want to scare you to death with the truth.
There no infrastructure for mass BSL-4 level care so they do they best they can... which isn't good enough.
You scared yet?

Yes, well... read the bloody definition, WYSIWYG
Biosafety level 4 (BSL-4) is the highest level of biosafety precautions, and is appropriate for work with agents that could easily be aerosol-transmitted within the laboratory and cause severe to fatal disease in humans for which there are no available vaccines or treatments.

The report showed that adults of all ages are at risk of getting sick from the coronavirus — of the 2,449 patients examined, 6 percent were 85 and older, 25 percent were 65 to 84, 29 percent were 20 to 44, and 5 percent were 19 and younger, the CDC said. People 20 to 44 — the millennial generation — accounted for 20 percent of those hospitalized and 12 percent of ICU patients.

It's getting weird in NY.

Cuomo is calling for 75% of the workforce to stay home.

The virus has now shown up in the inmate population on Riker's Island.

It also seems to have broken out in Hasidic Jewish community in Orange and Rockland Counties. At lot of Hasidic Jews are anti-vaxxers because they perceive the vaccines to be trefah (not kosher). Their chevra kadisha (funerary society) may have to buy a new backhoe or two.

JP Morgan Chase is closing 20% of their branches and reducing staff at the others.

https://abc7ny.com...ead-in-ny/5989875/

Meanwhile in Iowa...

The biggest gun store in the state is having a sale on AR15s.

Have a nice day!

One of the only good things to have come out of this whole crisis is that it has shown anti-vaxxers what a world would be like without vaccines, and they seem to have all suddenly shut up.

Yes, your reading of a condensed definition (did you really think that's all there is to it?) will always beat out the collected judgement of full-time virologists and epidemiologists at the world's preeminent disease control organization. /s

I'm out.

The UK is hoping to have the spread under control within 12 weeks which I guess is the same sort of timescale that China got it under control in, provided everyone here takes notice of what the general instructions are from the government they can see it working.

The trouble is there are too many boneheads out there who think that it doesn't apply to them.

Spring Breakers partying on the beaches in droves comes to mind.

In other news, the total number of cases in NY varies from source to source.

What they agree on is that the total is over 4000 cases and the majority of the cases are in NYC.

The death toll in Italy over the past 24 hours rose by 427 to 3,405, officials said.

This is a Disease X. It's killing younger people too with no preexisting conditions.
It's a killer.

China has been feeding us disinformation, duh.
Doubt they even know their actual death count... no joke.

Don't use NSAIDs if you're sick.
NSAIDs are counterproductive even for joint and muscle inflammation; they interferes with the prostaglandin cycle.
Inflammation is the first part of the healing process; NSAIDs can blunt or even stop healing of ligaments, tendons and muscle.

In illness a fever is a defense mechanism that generally aids in combating the infection. It is desirable as long as it's not too high ie over 104 F (in adults).

Emerging evidence suggests NSAIDs can increase the severity of coronavirus infections. Ibuprofen in particular was single out.

Many people, myself included take a dim view of fox unfortunately. Its a shame that the message can get tainted by the messenger.

^acetaminophen isn't a NSAID.
Can chew up your liver or kidneys though... best to use nothing.
You got suffer for the cure...

Fox is actually on the top of the heap... simply ignore the prolife shit and the prayer, country music, Dolly Pardon, etc stories.
Even has some Trump bashing stories for Sam.
Of course he never scrolled down -that- far.

NY is up to 7000 cases.

Governor Cuomo is ordering all non-essential workers to stay home and banned all non-essential gatherings. Those that defy the order will face prosecution.

Have a nice day!

All pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafes, leisure centres, theatres, cinemas, gyms and schools are being ordered to close to the public after tonight in the UK, although I believe food delivery services will still be operating. Necessary steps to try and slow the spread of this, because you can give people all the 'advice' in the world but large numbers of the population are idiots who think it doesn't apply to them so carry on as normal - the only way to stamp this out is with sweeping closures to force social distancing.

Steps the good ol' US of A should have taken two weeks ago.
