N95 masks won't do anything to protect you, besides that, I'm not letting a silly virus scare me and keep me in. I'm sure the asbestos and other cancer-causing chemicals will kill me before silly coronavirus does. Yes for some people it is deadly, but for most of us, it's a cold. Silly virus no stop me from urbex!!!! > : (

The latest cancellations...

NAB 2020 is cancelled.

https://variety.co...avirus-1203530645/

For the first time in over 250 years, the St. Patrick's Day Parade in NYC is cancelled.

https://nypost.com...im-of-coronavirus/

The parade has been led by the 69th Infantry Regiment since the Civil War. I did some of my 11B time in the 69th and was in the parade twice.

I have just arrived at the point in my life where something like this is actually starting to be a genuine health risk. In my early 60s, putting me at the bottom of the age window. Where my complication comes in is that I do have some lung issues. I had pneumonia a few years back, and that was pretty scary. It also took over a year until I didn't have recurring bouts of breathing issues.

I'm certainly not in panic mode like some folks, but I am taking watching the situation and taking it seriously. I taught a motorcycle class this past weekend and have another one scheduled for the first of next month. It will be interesting to see if that class gets cancelled or not.

Meanwhile in Italy...

Throughout the day, on Wednesday 11 March, law enforcement officers carried out checks along the connecting roads, in the streets of the capital city (Savona) and on the premises. Towards evening, the municipal police patrols began to wander around the neighborhoods to remind by loudspeaker to stay at home and not go out except for proven and urgent reasons.

Wouldn't the presence of Cornovirus also be a way to get into abandoned buildings much easier due to less people being on the streets?
Or so I would assume.
IF you are willing to take the risk that is.

This isn't small pox or ebola.
So what risk?
The risk of contracting it is greatest around people anyway.

UW Madison has acted with uncharacteristic haste and concern for student health by suspending all face to face instruction, university sponsored travel, and gatherings of fifty or more people to help slow the spread of Coronavirus. All classes are to be moved entirely online from March 14th to April 10th. Not sure how that will work with my practical lab courses, music rehearsal class, exams, or discussion seminars but we'll see. Additionally all student dorms have been closed with students encouraged to study from home, though that doesn't affect me since I live in a rented house with my friends. Curiously, the university-run restaurant I work at has refused to suspend operations.

This is in the wake of dozens of other universities around the country doing the same, and several other new Coronavirus cases (including one UW graduate student) being identified in the greater Madison area.

i was reading who the higher risk people were... I scored four on the list myself at age 46. I had pneumonia in 2013... spent 5 days in an ICU. I have asthma, COPD, heart failure and diabetes.

That's a scary list of health issues to deal with regardless of what else is going around. I sure hope that you avoid this mess!

Be careful my friend!

More the risk of being arrested for defying government/police orders to stay indoors during a lockdown.

Quick question,

I've seen a lot of news in the states, but haven't seen much in our news about how things are in the UK. What's the situation over there?

Most Illinois Universities are on slow lock-down too. University of Illinois has issued statements of cancelling their classes and opted for online instead as multiple cases have been reported here.
I'm sure that's the case for other states as well. It's getting really worry-some now...

We've got a comparatively low number of confirmed cases compared to mainland Europe, which I believe is one of the reasons why Trump hasn't included the UK or Ireland in the current travel bans however as with everywhere the number of 'real' cases is likely to be many orders of magnitude higher than the 'official' cases. Our official number of cases is just below 500 right now, rising by about 120 a day, with 10 deaths (all elderly with underlying health issues), it's obviously set to rise quite dramatically in the next couple of weeks.

The UK government has taken the stance of 'slow and steady' when it comes to their preventative measures, they know they can't contain it but it's a matter of pushing back the peak of the cases to a time when the NHS is better suited to deal with them as regular seasonal flu cases will begin to drop dramatically right about now. They've advised anyone with a persistent cough and fever within the next couple of weeks to isolate themselves from everyone, people have been concerned saying they aren't doing enough but the trouble is you put in measures too fast and too soon - like closing schools - and it 1) doesn't get rid of it effectively as cases spike when the restrictions are removed and 2) people get fed up of it and are more likely to push back.

I am not in a high risk category either. I’m more likely to be asymptomatic or close to it, but I have a responsibility to my community - not just to myself.
In other words, if I catch the virus, I’ll probably be fine, but it’s reckless and selfish of me to not see how my carelessness could harm, or even kill, the more vulnerable members of my community.

Even if you are in a low risk group, please follow the CDC and WHO guidelines and don’t take unnecessary chances that could endanger the lives of the people I love and care about.

The trouble with your attitude to it is that you may be OK and think 'screw it I'm going out' but then you come into contact with people who cannot as easily survive it as you, the more vulnerable groups that need more treatment and may not even make it. It's all well and good thinking 'I'll be OK' but for the sake of communities and other peoples safety you need to adhere to all the advice given to you by official outlets.
