Well the UK is in a state of lockdown in all but name for the next three weeks at least, thanks in part to the huge numbers of absolute morons who decided to treat the weekend just gone as some sort of holiday as thousands upon thousands flocked to the coast, to beaches, to country parks and other such places. All non-essential shops and businesses have been ordered to close, that is those who don't have any bearing on getting people through this crisis. You are only allowed to leave your house for either food (and then only every few days), if you need to pick up medication/care for a relative or to do exercise - walking/running/cycling - alone, or with immediate family you live with. Outside gatherings of over two people unrelated to each other have been banned and people are only allowed to travel/commute to work if that work is absolutely essential and cannot be done from home. The grocery shops that are open have been told to only allow in a small amount of people at a time and even then everyone must try and stick to the social distancing guidelines. Whilst the UK is locking itself down, Trump seems to think the US will be able to reopen within a matter of weeks which is absolutely ludicrous. Some of the comments I've seen from Americans on various pages I'm on on Facebook make me want to weep because it appears to me and the rest of the world that they think this is some sort of conspiracy and over-reaction, and that by burying their heads in the sand it will just go away.

I'm waiting for the social fabric to start to unravel. It's showing signs of fraying in the larger cities already. In Iowa, it seems the number one complaint is "no sports on TV" and the big argument is "what constitutes an essential business?". IDK - maybe seeing Andrew Cuomo as a guest on the Sean Hannity show is a sign of the apocalypse. Or maybe we're just seeing the long term effects of years of political tribalism.

It's already happening in the stores Fucking stupid pigs. Walmart here went from 24 hour to 13.5 hours and still can't stay stocked. I was lucky to snag some Walmart pizza; -all- brands are gone. Those idiot democraps need to get those fucking relief checks out yesterday. Deliberately causing more panic for political gain. Those (both parties) that used inside info and dumped stock need some club fed time.
Hopefully some stupid will get thinned from the herd like this fucktard... “I’m like prime age, you know what I mean?” 21-year-old San Francisco resident David Brown told KRON4 News on Sunday https://www.foxnew...uth-on-coronavirus

Not going to happen from what I saw, they blocked it, blocked everything. On one side you have a President who seems to think that it'll magically become less of a devastating issue if he puts everyone back in work, and on the other side you have a hopeless bunch of ragtag morons squabbling amongst themselves and blocking motions that could help out everyone in the country. America is fucked, and thats coming from a Brit who loves the country.

Governor Evers put his "safer at home" (shelter in place) order into motion this morning. Wisconsin is now under lockdown for the next thirty days. Looks like I'll be spending my birthday getting drunk alone in my apartment, provided the booze doesn't run out before then.

So, We think the short term risk to the economy is worth tens of thousands of American lives.
That's what we are saying... Do people know what will happen if we just let this thing burn through the population? ...

Isolate the high risk. Minimum consequences for most. A heart that doesn't beat dies... Only for those who will die otherwise. Even if they survive there maybe serious consequences from this treatment. Old school treatment: https://www.foxnew...recovered-patients
Thanks China... why don't you just f-f-fade away.

Society has the resources to offset this as long as essential (medical, emergency, grocery, defense, utility, and logistics) industries remain open, even if all the other retail and service jobs (which make up most of our economy) close down. It will be inconvenient, but these measures are projected to save 600,000 lives. The "it'll be fiiiiinnneee, return to work as normal after a week" attitude is directly placing the economy as more important than hundreds of thousands of lives. The problem here isn't that society can't support these antipandemic measures- it's that the billionaires and politicians in charge would rather sacrifice 600,000 lives than see their obscene profits take a hit. The enemy was never the average Republican or Democrat. The real enemy was always the 0.1%, who built their fortunes on the backs of Americans everywhere and would happily kill us all to keep their wealth- and they've convinced most Americans to thank them for the privileged of being exploited. All this pandemic is doing is illuminating the cracks in the system and forcing the elite to show their true colors- and with the light shining upon them, we can clearly see the blood of countless innocents that stain their hands.

I'm a pragmatist. You lack vision and a understanding of the depth of this unfolding disaster. We have done as much as practical to mitigate this pandemic. With no food or money the society will quickly start to unravel. The veneer of civilization is very thin indeed. Treating it largely as we do the flu will limit the damage to the infrastructure. People will die either way. Our duty is to limit the damage for the majority, not save everyone which is impossible to do.

...You do realize you're in the most vulnerable demographic, right? Are you really willing to die for billionaires profits?

I'm watching NYC. In China, 86% of COVID-19 cases asymptomatic. https://www.wbur.o...mptomatic-carriers Unless I'm mistaken, in NYC, they are only testing people with symptoms. The daily report from the NYC Health Dept. shows 14,776 cases in NYC. https://www1.nyc.g...y-data-summary.pdf It's only coincidence that the numbers work out so evenly, although if case model that occurred in China holds true in NYC, there are 86,000 asymptomatic cases wandering around NYC creating new infections. The good news is that 86% of people that contract the virus will have no serious health problems.

NYC population 8.5 mil 25k confirmed cases as of today 5% of those cases will need medical intervention to live. That’s 1250 beds just for the cases we have now. Do you guys understand where this is going if we don’t do everything we can. People will be dying in the streets. Statistics this large are hard to wrap your head around. How much is a human life worth to you? Give me an answer. $25k $50k Six figures? Cause that is what we are talking about.

Any data out of China is worthless. Italy and other free world countries are the only reliable sources. It's still far too soon to determine the extent of damage to survivors even if they appear to have made a full recovery. There may be long lasting effects not evident yet including serious autoimmune diseases. Many have not fully recovered even after 30 days. An ominous sign. That said, we own it now. Riders on the storm...

You fail to comprehend it's not just about money; compliance, and enough time and organization to effectively treat it. Once the supply chains and infrastructure start to fail money becomes useless. If the former ie cure sufficiently disrupts the latter results well be far worse. All those fucktard ideals you see in the movies don't work in real life. In the Orient life is very cheap, always has been. Learn your history, at least as far back as WW2. Be glad you live here...

The agency I work for now has us on rotations, I start my week off as of right now. I'm more than happy to stay at home and catch up on years of lost sleep and I look at this quarantine order as much needed relief. One thing for certain is that I'm happy to not be working on an ambulance anymore! The only thing I wish for every day is people to heed the government warnings and stop being so god damn stupid when out in public and hoarding literally everything. I see people with shopping carts filled to the brim with goods. All I need is my vitamins and the shelves are wiped clean and there are 60+ people in line at 7am in the morning. American production needs to shift into overdrive.

Quebec's been in full-on lockdown mode since Monday. Thank fuck my favourite taco joint's still open. Supposedly for take-out only, but given that the place was empty the owner was cool and let me chow down in the corner. Thankfully Canada's a civil society, so the weed, liquor, grocery and pharma stores will remain open. And at least some of the corner stores. It worries me that the US, just 100 km south of here, seems not to be taking this shit sufficiently seriously. Maybe we're over-reacting up here, I dunno. But bowing down to the money-makers over the health interests of the population at large seems like exactly the wrong thing to do. History will tell. I'm just guessing, but I feel like a bullet in the face of the orange-tard might just be North America's best hope.
It's great to be alive! |

Overdrive concocting a rationing system is more likely. For those too young to remember the 1973 OPEC oil embargo, the government went so far as to print up gasoline ration stamps, but never issued them. Instead they went to an odd-even rationing system based on the day of the week and the last digit of your license plate number.
