Walk through walmart or heb.

We don't have HEB here or anywhere outside Texas and Mexico.

Walmart here is sold out of rubbing alcohol, liquid sanitiser, toilet paper, ammonia and flour.

There's still plenty of alcohol, face masks and disposable gloves in the paint department.

Dry and canned food like ramen noodles, bread, canned meat, summer sausage, cleaning wipes, bleach and liquid soap are low, but still in stock in limited quantities.

There's no shortage on first aid supplies, rice, dry brans or canned vegetables.

Elsewhere in the area...

The St. Patrick's Day Parade in Des Moines was supposed to go on, but was cancelled last night.

Most of the churches are on a hiatus. The larger churches are live-streaming services.

Jury trials are postponed until April 20th. Grand juries are adjourned until May 4th.

Schools are closed the rest of March, but some are still serving lunch for students.

Illinois Tollway has stopped taking cash.

Wait another week and see what happens.

18 confirmed cases in Iowa.
93 in Illinois.

Elsewhere in the universe:

The Kremlin is admitting to 63 cases in Russia.

Out of flour? That would make sense if they were simultaneously out of yeast and baking powder. I suspect that both of those are abundant on the shelves. If they are planning biscuits or bread, do they have any idea how to bake either of them from scratch? Or is everyone just concerned with making chicken fried steak and gravy?

Of course the folks that live the prepper lifestyle are sitting back saying, "I told you so."

The baking powder, baking soda and yeast were next to the flour and they were hit hard too, but still stock on the shelves.

Ahh, the prepper lifestyle. Spend $50K on mil-spec gear only to get clapped on the first night of the bugaloo.

I think a lot of preppers have to prepare to save themselve from their own preparedness or lack thereof.

It's in a Geo-Restricted collection. The US is unique in that we have freedom of speech and of the press which is not the case in the rest of the world.

You would probably have to become a member of the Internet Archive.

Well my Co-Worker who works in the cubicle next to me just came down with flu like symptoms and running a fever. He was at the Houston rodeo before it was shut down. This will probably be the last day my office is open if he comes back positive.

Cities that are heavily dependent on the travel and entertainment industries are going to show stress first. Things in Southern Nevada may start going haywire in the coming week or so.

For now, it doesn't look like the social fabric is not going to completely unravel on a grand scale unless acted upon by another force.

The other force being panic being touched off by misinformation spread on social media.

Oh wait, that already happened.

I have to say I’m pretty glad I grabbed a 10 pack of N95 last year as we approached fire season. By end of last week the medical system I work for was running low and we are having to reuse single use items now.

I’m hoarding my personal UE stash to help my unit if I need to.

I see a whole lot of idiots who are probably doing more to spread the virus than fight it.

Here's how the chaos looked at two grocery stores I visited today:

First I stopped at Homeplus, where I had to search hard for the toilet paper because it was on a different floor from the usual groceries. That's probably why there's no one else there.

Second stop was at Emart, which had an even bigger supply.

Both stores were emptier than usual because of social distancing. Most shoppers were wearing facemasks.

The only thing in short supply here is facemasks. Right now every resident is allocated a maximum two masks per week, and you can only buy them at pharmacies on designated days as decided by the numbers in your birthday. Supplies are limited so you have to go in the morning, and there are apps that tell you how many masks each pharmacy has remaining that day. Although that's for medical-grade masks and you can buy less reliable and more fashionable ones whenever you like.

Our numbers are down, with less than 100 new infections reported daily lately, despite one cluster at a call center and another at a different church, where they were giving people a spritz of salt water to protect them from coronavirus, except the nozzle they were using picked up the virus and caused 46 more infections.

^face masks will be almost unless without goggles and following full biohazard protocols.
It's that contagious. This isn't the flu; it's a lot more contagious.

Rule #1 if you're really concerned about getting it; avoid people and anywhere they are, have been or items they have handled in the last 3 days.

Yep, they amended the reuse of goggles with disinfectant to complete disposal. This is a change from Thursday to today.

Doctors and nurses are in a sticky situation.
High concentrations of the virus demand BSL-4 gear/protocols to avoid infection.
2 dead stateside doctors already

Containment may prove impossible... at some point you need to let the dice fall as they may and get on with it.
A vaccine badly needed... -now-

<Snip>

Things have already gone a bit crazy here. Not just restaurant and nightclub closures, but whole casino chains shutting their doors. That's unprecedented in Vegas history. (I am NOT saying it's overreaction. Just saying that it is happening.) I'm a contractor for a state agency and we are still in the office like "normal". More than a few of my co-workers are unhappy about it.

For good or bad, these are historic times. These days will be part of human history for the remainder of man's existence. Let's try not to make future historians shake their heads and say, "What a bunch of idiots." Might be too late for that too....
