It's amazing... I worked in a rally shop full time for 3 years, a closed deck 2.5 block will handle 500 horsepower no problem.

...and the stock 2.2 in my Impreza has 290,000 miles on it.

stock bottom end of a 2.0L LSJ Ecotec will handle 500hp and 25psi of boost with ease. Any more and you've got go with a beefier GM Performance crank, rods and pistons.

i have been told by the tech guys over at crateenginedepot.com that the crate LNF 2.0L Turbo bottom end will handle at least 600 before you need to upgrade internals.

... as far as i know, Vauxhall or Opel had a couple of rally teams running the Ecotecs.

Here's MY awesome experience with Vauxhall EcoTEC power and reliability;

Head Gasket Failure after 11,000 miles? It's more likely than you think! This 1.2 was the weakest little buzzbox POS engine I've ever had the misfortune to have installed in a car.

YMMV!!

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

1.2L is a bottle of soda.
I've had a 2.2L in 05 Cobalt, the 2.0L LSJ in my 07 Cobalt SS/SC and a 2.4L VVT Ecotec in my mom's 07 Pontiac G6 sedan.

haven't had a problem with any of them.
the 05 had 49,000 miles when i trade for the 07
the 07 has 80,743 miles on it now
and my mom's car has 23,288 miles on it now.

Yeah, I think the sub 1.4's are just the runts of the litter and should have been shot at birth! The 1.0 only has three cylinders.

You can't really see it but behind all those leaves is an abandoned Ultimate 80's cabin. I lost all my pics but this one. You may be able to see the gate behind the Jeep, dunno.

@Jeepdave: Hell ... I want one of these !

1.

Yes, it's a diesel.

Renault Clio 1994 1,9 l. I call it the tractor, because of the sound, the blue smoke, the slowness but it is surprisingly sturdy.

Before that I used to own a car that my sister gave me: 1992 Ford Fiesta Ghia 1,1 L engine. What a piece of crap ... All the electronic was done, the engine was ... well 1,1 l, what do you expect and water tended to leak from the sunroof when it rained. Glad I got rid of that.

Nope, it's GM's own, developed by Opel Europe. While it's based on the original US design, it plainly hasn't had enough work done in sorting out the thermal stresses that are placed on a small engine! As a result, it's mostly rubbish in anything under 1.4Litre, being not very powerful for its size with poor fuel economy and lazy low down response.

http://en.wikipedi...GM_Family_1_engine

But yes, it has been used in many Daewoos under licence from GM - and remains the mainstay of the revised 'Chevrolet' range in Europe. Which is also rubbish.

Chris...

Very true, my first Saturn was a 2001 SL1 and it's still going strong, my ex has it, and it's got 15000 on it, only replacement needed has been the clutch and even that would have been fine if she didn't ride it
I have my saturn, they are a well built care, no complaints. Too bad this is their last year!

My Saturn has been very reliable. I have a 2003 L200 with about 75,000 miles. I too am sad to see them go. I dig the Aura's.

LOL...I know. I could not find any matching wheels at the salvage yard. And I will fix the paint later but do not care right now.
