Actually, I know a lot more about cars than you think. I know they are completely different bodies, and I know you have the supercharged shitty version as opposed to the DECENT at best Turbo version of the vehicle. The fact remains that the cobalt is the direct replacement of the Cavalier and if you try to argue that then you are just fucking ignorant. It still has a shitty transmission, and suspension and the motor is weak. It's ALMOST like the neon in the sense that it is an extremely cheaply built car that is quick, but still has no retaining qualities that deem it worth keeping more than 2 years or so since the value drops dramatically after you drive it off the lot. At least the Neon SRT-4, while still extremely cheaply built, is fast off the lot and has incredible potential to become much faster... Unlike your cobalt. So keep trying to church up your shitty domestic car to something more than it ever can be. I'll sit here content with my shitty german GTI ;)
| again, thanks for demonstrating your automotive ignorance. where was your VW when the Cobalt SS was setting a FWD lap record on the Nurburgring? Where is your GTi in comparos for performance and bang for the buck? Oh that's right, dead last. As for the 2.0L Ecotec being weak, forget what your ricer friends have told you. 500hp is attainable on a stock bottom end. On a stock block, 700hp is not unheard of. Hahn Racing will sell you a twin-charger system that will turn your Cobalt into an assault weapon. As for that fucking import golden rule, resale value... i bought the car because it was a bargain. I didn't buy it because i wanted to get rid of it two years. I bought it because it runs like an animal, is a blast to drive on a road course or dragstrip, and is incredibly comfortable on long drives. None of the other cars I drove were even close. In fact, the only car that was even close to being purchased instead of the Cobalt was a Hyundai. It amazes me how decent air cooled VW guys are and how assholish water cooled VW guys are. As for my experience with VW's, I've had one (an 87 Golf) It was beat to shit, but continued to run even though pieces kept falling off og it. A guy in our crew had a 98 Jetta GT that was ok, when the transmissions weren't shearing reverse. After three gearboxes, it went down the road. I was almost killed in a 79 Rabbit when we hit a tree and the seatbelt retainer pulled out of the floor. However, on a hearts and flowers note, my 79 Horizon had a VW engine in it... a 1.7L hooked to a Peugeot 4speed transaxle. of course, it had a big old American Holley 2bbl carb on it.
