lol, there's the problem. You drive a cavalier on steroids .
| that's typically a stupid comment made by someone who knows absolutely NOTHING about cars. the Cavalier was a J-body... it was first released in 1982. It was based on a small take on the GM X-body (Citation, Phoenix, Omega and Skylark) and was powered originally by a 1.8L OHV and 1.8L OHC engine. The car originally had a model available across all GM product lines and would do more harm by causing the term "badge engineering" as well as "alphabet cars". Chevrolet Cavalier, Pontiac J2000/Sunbird/Sunfire, Oldsmobile Firenza, Buick Skyhawk and Cadillac Cimarron. The J-body was one of GM's most successful cars and was produced until 2005, 23 years and over 7 million cars.. The Chevrolet Cobalt is a Delta body. It's based on the European Opel/Vauxhall Astra. It has absolutely nothing to do with the Cavalier other than sharing the same engine in the Cavaliers' final year and the Cobalts' first, that being the 2.2L L61 Ecotec. The Cobalt SS uses the 2.0L LSJ Ecotec. Again, NOTHING to do with the Cavalier. They share no suspension pieces. No floorpan. No electronics. No hardware. The bolt patterns on the wheels are even different. So can the stupid comments.

| Actually, I know a lot more about cars than you think. I know they are completely different bodies, and I know you have the supercharged shitty version as opposed to the DECENT at best Turbo version of the vehicle. The fact remains that the cobalt is the direct replacement of the Cavalier and if you try to argue that then you are just fucking ignorant. It still has a shitty transmission, and suspension and the motor is weak. It's ALMOST like the neon in the sense that it is an extremely cheaply built car that is quick, but still has no retaining qualities that deem it worth keeping more than 2 years or so since the value drops dramatically after you drive it off the lot. At least the Neon SRT-4, while still extremely cheaply built, is fast off the lot and has incredible potential to become much faster... Unlike your cobalt. So keep trying to church up your shitty domestic car to something more than it ever can be. I'll sit here content with my shitty german GTI ;)

| | | Posted by Xanadu I had to look up what a VW GTI looks like because I had forgotten. What a god awful piece of shit that car is. How do you drive that stupid looking hatch back. Man you V "dub" guys are something else. Why don't you trade your "shitty german GTI ;)" in for a real German car like a BMW ;) P.S. - No offence.
| There are more similarities between the Cobalt and the Cadaverlier: the Cobalt is made in the same factory that produced the Cav: Lordstown, OH (near a bunch of abandonments!) I've had three J-cars: an '83 Skyhawk (three blown head gaskets); '84 Cavalier (my first car; name something, it went wrong); '89 Cavalier (blown head gasket -> cracked head. Whoever thought of putting an aluminum head on an iron block needs pilloried) On the other hand, my '86 VW Golf also blew a head gasket, but still ran fine and would lay rubber with it blown. I rebuilt the engine and drove it two more years until it died in an accident. My '03 Beetle has had no problems so far, and the service has been stellar. I have a friend who also has a Golf and rolled it on the freeway in the winter. It landed on the wheels, he started it and drove it another 60 miles home. He replaced the body panels and two windows and drives it to this day. I've also owned a Chrysler, two Fords and a Mazda truck. All the American vehicles have sucked big time. The Mazda had design and quality issues that I won't detail here. Only the VW's have been any good. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

| BMW's are overrated unless you can afford the M series. They are well built cars and look good, but I'd much rather take an Audi S5 over an M3. BMW's get boring fast too, plus you also have to deal with the typical BMW owners that come with the crowd which is enough for me to steer clear of them for a long time. And I love driving my "Stupid looking hatch back" because it gets 33 mpg at 90mph, I can fit my entire drumset in it or carry 4 people. The interior is nicer than any car in it's class, and it's faster than other cars in it's class. Then with a computer tune it adds about 85 ft/lbs of torque, and 65 hp on stage1 , stage2 bumps it up to about 300hp and 340 ft/lbs, while still maintaining gas mileage and looking good. Every person that's ridden in my car, guy and girl, love it. And what's funny is you can tell in your post, you were intentionally trying to push my buttons with your weak attempts at insulting my car. If you don't like it then you dont' like it and I dont' really give a fuck lol. But don't try and insult the car in an effort to piss me off... you just look retarded when you do that.

yea 00-03 were the problem years for the MKIV body's with electrical problems. But I still haven't heard about head gaskets blowing, even with improper maintenance. Make sure you are getting the full story. I only say that because I know a lot of kids with Turbo VW's (1.8T, TDI, 2.0T) that blow their turbo or motor and say it's the cars fault blablabla. Yea they changed the oil like they were supposed to, and did the proper maintenance, BUT, upon hooking the computer up to the car you can see the Over Rev code that means the RPM's were up past the safe range for more than a second causing the motor to blow... usually due to people not knowing what they are doing and trying to street race.
| I will agree that most of the problems were due to people not knowing how to drive or not upgrading their vehicles properly before pushing them like that. I just know that there are cars out there that you can push like that stock, and they wont (for lack of a better word) explode in such a way. I have never worked for VW, I have worked for Dodge,Toyota,Mazda and currently Subaru. Working in the parts department, you get your fair share of used cars. I have seen on many occasions a trade in or a auction VW come in and the tech would immediatly find head issues. The only stories I have are from personal Experience. Sorry. I should have read more before saying that. I just know what I have seen and what techs have told me time and again. I myself am a Volvo person. So to me everything else isn't built as well at least pre 99 Volvos. Although Volvo did see its fair share of electrical issues for a few bad years.
