If we're forming a convoy, I'm probably going to be taking I-90 east, but I'm not adverse to going up to Vancouver first if the Wraiths need transportation to the con.

I think a meeting in Chicago would be a damn good idea. All meet there in something like a Wal-Mart parking lot or some such, do any restocking that's necessary, trade information for the trip (cell #s and the like), and then head out in the 20+ cars ^_^

Not sure at this time what I'll be driving, or what space I'll have available. Hopefully I'll be able to get the Aztek - plenty of gear space for all.

And we should all have signs in the back that say 'OPEx'94 or BUST!' ^_~

God Ben, you have no idea how hard I was laughing when I saw that.

Quick, somebody build a giant wooden figure of Max Action so we can burn it at the expo and dance around it!

Quick note: there aren't many open areas that we could meet in the city itself, I was thinking maybe somewhere outside the city that would be relatively easy to find, and where you wouldn't have to deal with city traffic. I'll work on finding a place where we could meet. I'd need to have a definite time-frame for when everyone would arriving though. Which is why we should get going on this trip at least a day or two early so we can have some time in advance to get everything together.

Damien: IF you can get the Wraiths to go along for this, or even if you don't, just remember that it's a LONG drive from the Seattle-Vancouver area to Chicago. About two days worth of driving. If you were to meet up with the rest us, it would require some planning. You might want to leave well in advance to get out here before anyone else, and I could see about setting up space for you and the Wraiths to crash at for a night before anyone else comes on down.

The Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri, and Indiana explorers all live within 7 hours or so of the Chicago area, so you can figure out when you'd have to leave to meet up here by.

Drie: that's a great idea. If you could get the explorers from the Mass/New York/Pennsylvania/Conn./Jersey area or so to meet up somewhere in New York and then head up to Toronto from there, it would be like two huge convoys coming from the east and west at the same time.

Anyone else?

I need to work out the fine details now...

I think there will be several different convoys from different parts of North America. Even if no wraiths need a ride (thanks for offering Damien) we can still end up meeting up along the way. The plan we have so far is to drive straight through actually, with alternating drivers.

Although it's pretty cool that I only have a 45 minute drive to get to Toronto, it would be so f'ing awesome to do a cross-country UE trek. Do some research, hit some spots along the way, stuff like that.

Now, here's another idea.

Somebody should offer storage on their laptop. It would be a lot easier for someone to offer storage space to those using digital cameras, than for those using digital cameras to have to buy multiple memory cards/sticks. It could be used as a central storage area, and then after OPX an FTP server or website could be set up to allow people to download the images they have stored there.

Thoughts?

Plus, an OPX website with daily updates and pics so people who are too cool to show up (glances sideways at Max Action) can get updated on what's going on.

Unless, of course, they're too cool to care about it in the first place, in which case it would be an excercise in futility.

Pfffttt, Hotel rooms are for sissies... like UEM.

hehe

We could get rooms, but we enjoy camping, especially when there will be a group of people to hang out with and swap stories around ye olde campfire... I think it'll be more fun than staying in a hotel, but thats just my opinion.

In my experience, groups can have fun in hotel rooms too (I stayed at a hotel for CNAnime with a whole bunch of anime freaks once, and that was great fun)

Also, you'd be welcome to come with too Jester. Camping might be fun for the awhile, but personally I find you're too much at the mercy of the elements. If it rains for a few days, you guys won't be having much fun around the campfire, you'll be huddled in tents waiting for it to stop.

Plus we can explore the hotel at night! C'mon, you should come with us too! The Wraiths and UEM teaming up would surely result in some kind of tunnel system or secret basement being found.

I like the idea of burnin my pics to disc, so hopefully someone has a laptop or nearby access to a burner somewhere.

I think one key issue will also be people respecting the fact that a good number of us don't want our faces shown in pictures on the web.

I'm sure in the several days of convention, there will be all sorts of crossovers of groups working together. I'm looking forward to meeting and exploring with a good number of people from other groups. I've got a list of people I *have* to meet (Ninj, Max if he's not too cowardly to show :p, UEM, Crossfire etc, Shane, Noah Vale, and more that I can't think of at the moment). Who do you other folks look forward to meeting in the flesh ?

rain is no promlem, I have camped when its been down pouring for days and the way we came in was flooded and still had fun. Just make sure you have lots of tarps, take some trucks put em in a circle and make a giant tent, put all the other tens under that and have a lounge in the middle

for those of you going in a caravan...you should all have bumper stickers that read..."We don't brake for security guards"

Tux I might just take you up on the hotel room offer. Camping sounds fun but I am just worried about the rain, my equipment and other little fun things like that. plus like you said...exploring the hotel might be fun

I definatly want to meet Jester, Ninj, Av, Crossfire, Mochi, Freak, Detriot, kowalski and many many more people

Well, unless I die before I get to the Great White North, I should be meeting Max and the other Minnesota explorers soon anyway, so it's no big deal to me if he shows up or not.

I'd have to say the list goes something like this:

Ninjalicious, Jester, Freak, Kowalski, Drie, I'd love to see THD and Mr. thristy sandwich make an appearance. Detroit, UEM, Mochi, RobDobi, Crossfire.

Of course any single lady explorers I'd have a chance to meet.

Wow, I feel special now I'll probably bring my laptop since I tend to use up 128mb of digital camera memory pretty fast. I'll clear up as much hard drive space as possible beforehand and if my USB CD burner still works I'll bring that too. Those are some of the things I wouldn't want to leave in my tent or take on expos, so hopefully the car storage system works out.

For waterproofing electronics and cameras I like big tupperware containers and thick garbage bags, I've never taken my laptop camping but I'm sure I can come up with something for it.

Edit: I still can't figure out all Av's emoticons
