Whatever happens, we need to take a picture like this one, but of the famous or important explorers from all over the place.

Hello!

My hotel is booked!

I'll be staying at the Neill-Wycik College Hotel. It's a bit more expensive than a hostel, but way less than a hotel. $39.oo a night plus taxes including a breakfast every morning.

Now I have to book the train!

See ya'll there

Err... I think that the invitation was extended through this forum - this thread, to be specific. Ninj tried emailing as many as he could, but because of the sheer number of addresses attached to the email, a lot of servers considered it spam and prevented it from getting through to the recipient. I'm sure you're invited, no need to fret or use foul language...

I may be bringing a laptop.

Do I dare ask why?

Well I'm hoping to do a presentation on the Paris catacombs. It would be easy to display pics on a CD rom on a laptop. If someone is happy to lend me one for an hour or two.

I've been thinking the same thing. It would be great to have a group shot, of everybody. Someone's bound to have a 5 megapixel camera or more to get that detail in. I can manage only a 2.2 Mp jobbie.

If there is a 'famouse' and/or 'important' explorers piccie, I wonder if I'll make it into it. Not many people really know of me in the US, even though I'm spoken of a lot in some circles I might sit off on the site with the other 'mediocre' explorers. You know, the ones that have only done 120 drains

I really would like a group photo though. I expect I'll meet a lot of people, and make a lot of new friends. In some sense, I feel a lot closer to some people I have never met in the flesh like Ninj and Freak than to some members of my extended (and very dysfunctional) family. I wonder if Ninj and I can adopt each other? In some sense, we're already distant family. I think that in years hence we might be looking back to OPE94 as the start of something big, or possibly as the end of the 'dawn age/pioneering years' of our hobby. Whop knows.

And just a question for the organisers of OPE94, can I get a heads up on the meeting point of the do prior to June 22 please, as that's when I'll be departing Oz. Oh, but I suppose Ferret (my gracious bed provider) would know that. I have a fear of being left behind..... I imagine scenes like "Wasn't there supposed to be some Australian guy coming?"

Cheers all,
Jason / Panic!

Oh yeah, right. May 22nd. For some reason I've been getting those mixed up. I leave in May, but the Expo is in June. Damn I hope I get them right when I go to catch the plane. :What do you mean my flight took off last month?"

It's not the being away part that hurts - it's the leaving my penis behind when I go that's the tricky bit.

So, will there be any events for people like me who don't carry twenty-sided dice in a pouch next to my flashlight?

I'm afraid not.

It's not that I'm not allowed to go - it's just I'm not allowed to go on a vacation while she sits at home hot, miserable and pregnant - my other option is to load her in the car and drive her cross country <shudders> - I dunno if you've ever been around a pregnant woman but they don't travel well once they get to the 6/7 months stage.

She gives me a lot of freedom, but she's going to be miserable at that point - 7.5 months pregnant - and we have a 2 year old we need to keep track of too - me being gone would just be too big a burden. I'm one of those husbands that actually, ya know, contriubtes around the house - (though sometimes to hear her say it I'm a lazy bastard). To many responsibilities at home for me to go at that point.

I hope it goes really well - so well in fact that we all decide to do it again next year - should work out a little better then.

In all seriousness, and without trying to sound paranoid, I wonder aloud if anyone is worried (as was brought up a few pages back) that there might be some sort of police surveillance planned for the event. It seems very unlikely given that most everybody who's going has made it clear in post after post that they don't destroy locations (or don't anymore) and only want to take pictures and brag a little... but I'm always a little paranoid about breaking the law in a foreign country. (Plus, with no 20-sided die of my own, I won't be able to execute a skill roll to see if my parkour skills help me escape from the RCMP. :-p)

Mat: The pre-planned events that might involve trespassing will only be publicized to and attended by known handfuls of known explorers. If they really have nothing better to do, I suppose undercover cops could indeed show up to some of the events in more public settings (dinners and the like), but I don't think that's likely to lead to any problems for anyone. They can't arrest you for telling stories.

Unless you UE the airport, the RCMP shouldn't be much of a problem in Toronto. Toronto police, and possibly OPP, transit police, etc, would be more of a concern.

Being a foreigner shouldn't be a problem unless you plan on comitting an indictable offence. Trespassing is about as serious as speeding, you won't be held in custody for any more than a night at very most, and that really isn't too likely as long as you aren't an asshole to the police.

yea im gonna bring a high gain 2.4ghz antenna which will be pointed at a specific wifi AP i know of... so anybody around me within say 300ft will get wifi, for FREE, although donations are accepted for the trouble of setting it up. its quite a simple setup actually... im using a Linksys wifi router, but instead of the wan side being connected to a DSL or CABLE, its gonna connect to my laptop's 10/100 ethernet which will route towards my Orinoco gold wifi card, then in turn to a high gain 2.4ghz yagi mount pretty high, although this will be stationary (probably at the camp site or what not... or maybe a park)... i will offer it to anyone as i said above, my laptop will also be running a local ftp server for ppl to dump pics onto, and the end of opex, i will host em.

OPEX Is done, now wait for 1995
