I'm partial to the "get TMC to buy them all for us"

Snuh? I'll buy yours, Jester, but everyone else can go topless.

Well, I too am floored that there was a unanimous decision to go with Toronto. However, being 45 minutes away, I'm not complaining. I've already got a place to stay (though bunking with some fellow UE'ers could be fun). As for campsites, I don't know of any within the GTA. There's a KOA just west of Milton, but that's way too far to go. Does anyone know if there's camping up at Heart Lake in Brampton?

Although I'm not too local anymore, I lived in Toronto for years and know it like the back of my hand. I'm willing to help out where help is needed.

I've just gotta mention that I think the idea of tours is ridiculous. It would be like going to a basketball convention and sitting around watching WNBA games... I for one, if I go, will be looking forward to the speakers, getting to know other UEers, and most importantly exploring Toronto, not taking some guided tour. I could do that online. Tours would just be silly, to me, and counter-intuitive.

Also, Ninj, I would offer my help, but I'm really not sure that I'll be going.

I just thought of something else we could organize for the con, though it's not particularly UE-based (though it could be).

I'd be willing to run a tabletop RPG of some sort for everyone, perhaps D20 Modern to easily work in some UE aspects into the game, or just a good ol' game of D20 Dungeons and Dragons.

I've been DMing RPGs for about 15 years, so I have a wealth of experience setting up complex and intriguing storylines. If there were some people interested, it's something that I think would make a fun afternoon activity.

Would anyone be interested in joining in on something like this?

Chuds, think of this... you've arived in a city, with no transportation, and no actual knowledge of it. You don't know how secure what you want to see is either. One person's idea of secure may not be the same as yours.

I've experienced this going to Kamloops out here. If it hadn't been for some help from Alison_ca it would have been so much more time consuming to find the targets.

Having a local show you a site is no different than another member of your own exploration group finding a site and then showing you it...

I fully intend to do some exploring on my own, but I also don't want to spend my entire time there scouting and observing possible targets and have no time for anything else...

When you put it that way it's not so bad, but I was thinking a "now here on the left you can see the elevator shaft... don't get too close now, class!" sort of a thing. As long as it's just "here's a nice site, lemme give ya the rundown and let you get going" that's cool. "Tour" just brings up very bad connotations.

Yeah, I can understand you seeing it that way. I wouldn't be part of that either. Though I'm totally fine with "Watch out on that side, it's drop into a bottomless pit..." that kind of tour info I'm totally fine with getting told...

When I'm showing someone a place I've already been to, I've learned to try quite hard to get them to lead as much as possible. Makes it less of a "guided tour" and more of an "exploration, with guide."

Yeah, I've started picturing this kind of thing in my head, and that's the sort of style I'd adopt if I were to show people around a site. I'd only ever point something out if no one else spotted it, and I'd try to either let each individual person or the group as a whole decide how to tackle various obstacles. Hopefully the various participants could learn useful tricks from each other.

Of course, for those who want to do it themselves even more, I'd be happy to just say something like "That building's service elevator goes somewhere very interesting." It would be a good thing if some people prefer this approach, actually, since it would keep the numbers of people on the organized expeditions more manageable.

I'm in, TMC, and you know it. Get ahold of me next time you see me online and we'll discuss character concepts and module ideas... I'm actually setting up a conjob d20 game myself right now. Kind of like the new Ocean's Eleven meets Lupin the Third. Heh, yeah.

Not a fan of D&D or D20 nonsense but I am a fan of gaming and a fan of TMC, Mochi and well whatever knows what polygonal dice are. Sign me up to play, ya bunch of mutants. One house rule, no gender altering belts, boots, fruit or other such thing. They mess with my brain too much. I hate those damn things.

One Girdle of Femininity coming RIGHT up!

Well, I'll see if I can come up with something that everyone will be happy with.

What other ideas do people have for things that could be done at the con? Booths? Demonstrations? Training?

What if you're a woman? does the character become more feminine? Well whatever, as long as I feel fresh.

As for other things to do at the con' I think we should look for bigfoot, or maybe engage in a sudden UE party crash somewhere perhaps even at the same time.
If we end up at a campsite, I want a stick to poke the fire. That's all I really demand.
Shopping is always a good thing on a trip and I'm sure there will be good places to purchase UE grade equipment in the big TO or calcutta or wherever we wake up the next day.

And since Pixie and I will be going together the whole way, we can buy one regular fare, and a companion fare for $30 more for her.

Make sure you talk to them about this. They are notorious for having blackout periods in the summer, when you cannot do that deal. Either way, its still cheaper though.

Here's a thought for those of yall interested in peddling shirts/stickers/etc...How 'bout for every item sold, donate $X to Av to help him cover the cost of the forum. Just an idea, but it would be a noble gesture considering that without Av's forum, a successful North American convention, such as the one planned, would be impossible.
