There's probably going to be quite a few campers I think. I know the group from out here is camping, and Freak from Alaska as well. I'm sure a few others also siad they would camp...

Who is camping? We want to camp and it would be great if a bunch of us could all camp together.

I am considering it but I am just worried about weather and my photography equipment.

Well, it will be June, so should hopefully be good weather. Besides that I think most campers will be in tents, and I know I'm bringing a tarp along just incase... PBJ, don't be such a wuss !

If you're worried about your photo equipment, you could always see if someone in Toronto could babysit it for your when you're not using it. Some people are doing that with their dog, so I don't think cameras would be a problem - they are far less messy and noisy.

Us explorers who actually have some cash in the bank might want to consider pooling our resources for a few hotel rooms.

Punkboy, you should think about that. You'd be welcome to come along with UEM.

Pfffttt, Hotel rooms are for sissies... like UEM.

hehe

We could get rooms, but we enjoy camping, especially when there will be a group of people to hang out with and swap stories around ye olde campfire... I think it'll be more fun than staying in a hotel, but thats just my opinion.

I'm planning to camp, if I'm driving with multiple people we'll be camping along the way anyway (I've got two other people who are at least somewhat interested, we'll see how that turns out). If I'm flying I'll want to save money wherever I can, and Jester is right about camping being more fun. It might be good to find a campground with shower facilities so we can clean up after messy expeditions, and so we don't all start avoiding eachother after a couple days. Do most Toronto campgrounds have those?

One question I had is what to do with equipment and gear when we're not at the campground? I don't know what the crime rate is there but I'd feel uncomfortable leaving my camping gear and extra UE gear behind if no one is staying at the campsite. If I have a car it won't be a problem, but otherwise even if I pack extra light I'd still have too much junk to resonably carry around during an exploration.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

I'm all for camping, It means we get to cook a hearty meal! Chili is is cheap and easy but it sometimes provides for common flagulence that might make sleeping in tents uncomfortable and will greatly reduce our stealth abilities, maybe beef stew will be a better alternative. Any other outdoor cooks planning on attending? I like to get sirloin tips and put them in tortillas, it's a great quick outdoor meal. Tortillas work best for camping as they don't get flattened like bread and they work great for brats and stuff, too.

Sorry, If I made anyone hungry, cause I'm hungry now!

I'm pretty sure I'll do some cooking while we camp (I love food cooked over an open fire). But I'll also want to go out and eat a bit too, just for the not-having-to-do-anything aspect of it... So, I'm sure we'll do a bit of both.

Ill agree that camping is allot more fun, even if i had money for a hotel id camp. Ill def be doing some cookin, corn on the cob wrapped in aluminum foil and cooked in hot coals is great, and bbq steak and chicken I can go on and on lol I need to see if my parents still have their campfire coffee maker...im not fum to be around in the morning w/ out my coffee
I hope the campgorunds have showers, even though I camp all the time in the middle of no where with no showers, I think after a few days of running around abondend buildings with all kinds of dirt and asbestos it wouldent be too nice.

As far as everyones gear, I plan on keepin anything im worried about in whatever vehicle I go there in. People can throw whatever they are worried about in my vehicle, as long as there is room.

Hmm... Not sure if we'll be camping or not, but I'd be more than willing to cook. I've done my share of camp cooking before, and I've learned how to turn campfires into proper cooking areas =P

I'm planning on the pseudo-camping with my motorized bush cabin (A little 22-foot RV). I'l willing for it to be used as an equipment shack for stuff people might not want to leave in a tent, though it'll mean that I'm beholden to others for ride to sites and the like...
If the old beast isn't working at the time I'll just drive and tent it probably. At least then I can ferry a few people around (I drive an Explorer ;) ).

Ya, can't forget the baked potatos in aluminum foil right in the coals with the corn on the cob.

Does anyone have a large van or some other transport like vehicle that could carry a lot of people, we could always leave one car parked at the campsite and lock all the valuables inside.

Edit:
Never mind, Lazarus answered my question before I posted it. Great minds think alike and post at the same time

Well, since lots of the people who have to travel are taking big cars, perhaps we could all form some sort of hippie-esque gathering. Like a merchant caravan circle or something.

Yeah...

Explorers coming from the west and southwest of Illinois: Any of you planning on stopping in on Chicago on your way east? We could meet up somewhere along the way, and then form a caravan going east. I'm looking to hitch a ride if posible! ;)

I say all of us going through Detroit into Ontario should just stop there and do some exploring in Detroit.

Either way, keep me updated of any developments.

I think Ninj will be sending out the information as the date gets near privately to interested individuals.

Let me say that I'm all about the caravan idea, forming a roving pack driving on the interstate up into Canada....

Camping is cool, as long we can find a campsite we could all crash at, so that way we could all just find each other at the campsite and chill. The Great UE Campout. We should all get there early before the convention, so that way there'll be some time to settle in and get to know each other.

Of course, not everyone will be camping, so whatever.

I'm also looking to put together a head-count of just how many non-Canadian/Canadian explorers are coming respectively, and with how many others to get an idea of the numbers in attendance.
