Uh, can I just butt in here in my role as moderator, person who is supposed to preside over the forum, and suggest interested parties take this debate to a new thread? I think it is useful for you guys to air grievances and get this argument worked out. But I would like to see it happen elsewhere because it precludes actual discussion on this thread's subject, Location DB Changes, which is kinda important. Thanks.

And let me address your assumptions here

"Well, considering seemingly all shunned this place and would just extoll it's evil vileness, "

Yes that is correct, in a community those who disagree with the staus quo cannot be trusted.

"is it a wonder nobody was given a trusted star ?"
What again are the requiremetns for getting a star? Based on it's name I would think it is about being trustworthy. But it does not say with what, trustworthy to agree with and believe what you think? Trustworthy not to steal stuff for UE sites? Trustworthy to build and encourge the community?

"You had your own message board where you'd spend most of your time, until it imploded." In the last 3 weeks of that messageboard you were one of the top posters and not once did you contribute something helpfull. Don't go blaming others, your shit smells just as bad as everyone elses.

"The fact that you and Mouse were given partial mod powers here is testament that you are trusted, if you weren't, you wouldn't have been given that. And if I'd thought you cared about getting a trusted star, I'd have given you both the star when it was around."

I care not about the star. We went over all this before, we had a trusted list on the old UEA site. It was a dangerous and negative thing. Why do we need to put everything online? If I was going to say Toronto to do UE. I would not use the LDB. I would call up Kowalski at home or drop him an email. I would chat with him and then once I arrived in TO I would hand out with him. buy him some beers and give him my time as a human being. Why is it that so many explorers feel the need to hide in their basement and scout sites online while downloading porn? Get out ppl, meet ppl.

"
I still think the trusted star had good potential if implemented right, which I don't think it ever was.
"

It is flawed idea that has proven in every situation to do nothing but damage the community.

Split it into another thread. In Alberta Private. Jester has the ability to snoop in there anytime he likes.

Unfortunately we don't have that power. It would be a nice feature, though. *looks at Av*

Edit: also, this really should be in Forum Issues, because, well, it's a forum issue.

How about you just start a new thread in Other, Skaught, and copy your post into there. If things should be aired, I'm quite happy for them to be aired in public and not just your little corner.

See now I am all pissed off. If only I didn't have this cold I would go out and do some UE.

Maybe the cold is part of the reason I am in a foul mood but sometimes being in a foul mood makes you say things that need to be said.

If someone is going to talk the talk, they have to walk the walk. End of story. I have explored and discovered 100's of sites, I have spent time ina police car, I have seem alot. I have a lot to see.

I do not expect mod status or any stars (I got enough in kindergarten and for learning to potty). I do however expect to have the right to say what I think is right and not have those with less experience tell me I am wrong and being given the power to enforce it.

Even if they do not exercise the power, the power is misplaced.

I totally feel this should be dealt with in public. Alberta private only works as there is no moderation there. Real life has no moderators.

Really this is all my fault, I should have followed the example of nearly all the other explorers I resepect I left this place a long time ago. Most of the explorers I really truly respect as people, rarely appear or post here. Take that however you want.

I am going afk. I have had enough.

Hell, one could say UE was better off without the internet. back then, the only people into it were serious, putting in the time and the effort. Increasingly though, thanks to the web, there's just lazy people going to the same tired spots everyone else has been over and over without doing anything new...

Hear hear - that is a terrific point. I also think that UER is really the worst of the worst as far as "Internet UE" goes. It offers people a shopping list for sites, with no need for any trust established. It allows armchair explorers who have only explored a handful of things in their life, and NEVER managed a UE group before - to become moderators (well, one at least) - and all the while doesn't seem to focus all too much on exploring.

UEA didn't collapse, we all agreed that we did not want to turn into another UER - and decided to pull the site down, citing that "UE was better before the Internet came into play". A while later we realized that not all of us could share our content as easily in person, so we brought the site back up - but did not include a messageboard, instead vouching to meet every Wednesday night at 8PM at the Hop 'n Brew pub (feel free to join us, usually between 5 and 20 people in attendance)

I do not think anyone in a democratic society can own a community. In fact it was misguided beliefs like yours that caused the issues on the UEA board. And for a person who had a huge part in what happened and shares a certain amount of responsibility you may want to show a bit of humility.

Yes, Jester - you were just as much responsible for the downfall of UEA as we were - in fact, you were provoking it left and right, giving people in UEA reason to get angry at each other. Maybe that's why I am doing the same for UER - it only seems fair. "Owning a community" is also a flawed concept - it's no longer a community, but rather somewhat like a religion, where one person calls all the shots and if you do not agree with it, you are shunned by your fellow worshippers.

It's true, the best explorers out there are out exploring - not whining (as I am) on a messageboard. I have never seen Reduxzero ( www.drainsofmycity.com )on here - and as a result, most people on UER probably think he is some lame newb - when in actuality he is one of the most dedicated explorers I have ever known.

Ok this PM just came in as I was closing the site:

Look, I know you guys and Jester have some big beef, I'm not gonna solve it, but please, I'm asking you, at least discuss it where it doesn't interfere with other discussion. The argument between you guys has derailed a couple threads now, and since it's theoretically part of my job to keep that from happening, I'm asking -- politely -- for you guys to please take it somewhere else. Start a new thread, send PMs, hell start a conference call or something.

Good point, GREAT way to deal with it.

So here goes, Jester you have the last word, I am stopping it after this. I have now gotten to the point that I cannot look at rationally and I in your shoes couldn't either so have at er'.

fine, skaught, I've reloacted this to the most appropriate place for a discussion with you and mouse. Mike Digital's Flame war board.
You do have to subscribe, but it's open to all.
Now can we keep this from ruining important threads here ?

edit, that was no good, cause no new members could join, so now it's here in other...
