Did anyone else notice that the post referenced here purports interest in hotels because they 'would love to buy one and fix it up,' yet they are also 17 according to the age provided? Seems somewhat inconsistent with the financial capabilities of the majority of 17 year olds.

That's not the point of the matter. The point I was illustrating with that (which you obviously missed entirely) was that information was just handed out without a blink of the eye.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to give you that impression. Your point was both well illustrated and received, I simply was adding another comment on the matter.

I think that we should remove some locations while you're at it with all these other changes.

There are NUMEROUS locations in abundance that contain 1 photo and very basic information. I mean come on, if you're not going inside the place, don't post the bloody location. Seeing 2 or 3 outside pics of a place and nothing more is really a waste of server space. If you aren't going inside, why post it? If you aren't going to attempt to infiltrate the particular location, WHY post it?

There are several locations that are just a couple of outside shots and nobody has attempted to gain access, or if they have they haven't posted about it. I just think it's a huge waste of the database, as well as server space. I don't want to see "Building A" outdoor shots, difficulty: forget it, and then nobody ever attempts entry, what's the point?

If you aren't going to attempt entry in a few months after you find it, and it seems much to difficult for an exploration, then don't bother posting a couple of outdoor shots, it's really just a waste.

Example:

http://www.uer.ca/forum_showthread.asp?fid=&threadid=12032

(THD makes a good point in that thread)

Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal? Its a natural plant that grows in the dirt. You know what's not natural, 80 year old dudes with hardons. Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt.

I agree I have been going through alot of Ontario locations in the database and quite a few of them are just exterior pictures.

I honestly think this binomial idea will work. The creator will still enter the real name which they or moderators (in my understanding of it) would be able to see, and the public name for everyone else to see to help keep the place a little bit protected. It's a balanced solution, some people would prefer the LDB gone, while others want it to stay exactly as is, and this falls somewhere in the middle ground. So lets see how it goes.

People just passing out information so freely in the forum is also a problem, because very often in being nice we're just blathering on and on about all the details to people nobody knows. Reminds me of when I get security or other official people talking when i'm researching places and they just babble on and on seemingly just happy someone wants to hear them talk...

This is still going on? Urgh...

1) The decisions about the fate of the LBD have already been made.

2) (Mostly in reply to Frost's post) If anyone has a problem with an LDB entry, click the "Click here to notify an administrator." button. It's there so you don't have to complain publically in a thread (especially one about something else). As for complaining about an entry that is fine other than for having only a few photos, the LDB is not called the PDB ( Photo DB ) for a reason, it is a database of places to explore, not an unlimited free photo gallery. I'd rather see 10-20 photos of a place and have a link to someone else's site then see Av paying for the hosting and bandwidth of many photos that (while often nice and would look nice on a site payed for by the photographer) are not of much use to people that want to see/explore/photograph/experience the location for themselves...

EDIT: is what happens if you put a B next to a )...

I think we should all hold off until the changes that have been remarked uponhere have been done. When it all comes down to it, Avatar-X is the archiater of the entire forum, so it's his decision. While we can all suggest what should (or should not) happen, I think Av will do what he feels is best for UER as a whole, and not base his decision on ego or anything else as irrelevant.

No, not exactly, but this discussion isn't about the proper or improper usage of obscure words, it's about changes to the database. So, let's stay on topic.

Actually it does make sense now and it is on topic. Archiater (Chief of Imperial Physicians) so if UER is sick and Av is the Archiater he'll ultimately be responsible for deciding how, when and why to heal it.

I'd just like to say that I am an explorer. I sometimes rely on vandals and thieves to continue my hobby. I do not condone their behaviour. I trespass, and I realize that it is wrong in the eyes of the law. I believe that, for the most part, what I'm doing is fairly harmless.

I am a contradictory fuck. And I like it that way.

Maybe, instead of arguing how one argument contradicts another, let's all just admit that, as explorers, we're contradictory and move on.

Kind of like the Catholic church. *ducks*

it's kind of cool the no street address thing. it makes you do a little exploring before you even get to the location (trying to find the place). Example, I saw a cool place I wanted to check out there, but there was no street address (obviously). So i'm reading a description of it, and it turns out some interesting event happened there not too long ago. So i go to the local newspaper archives, look through them, and voila, a location of the same type, with the same event happening there at the same time as the one on the LDB. And it was fun finding it too, a little bit of sleuthing spice to add to the UE meat.

That's what we all used to do before the DB was put into place. Nothing was in one location making it "easy" to find places. Hours upon hours were spent driving around and searching online for places. E-mailing other groups, ect...I think that is something a lot of newer folks have lost because of it. It has it's pros and cons, just like everything else.

I think having to get in touch with other members/groups would enhance the UE community, rather than take away from it.

NOTE: I did read your post, I'm just agreeing with you.

Nowhere on this site does it say that you're entitled to anything here. This whole site is a function of Avatar-X's goodwill, and nothing more.

If there were a pay feature, then you're damn right it would stop at least *some* of the fuckers that may be using the LDB for nefarious purposes.

Personally, I think it's a great idea.

If you can't afford a measly 2.50 a month (which is what it would break down to), then you really need to reprioritize why you're here.

I fully agree with this. making this site a pay only site would get rid of all or most of the bad people and would deter people from signing up just to keep track of us... i.e. security companies.

I say make a small yearly fee of like 20 bucks or so. that should keep the punks off the site.

Av.

The trusted star was a good idea that was removed for no practical reason. If someone lives in a remote part of the world, well, I guess they'd have to try that much harder to get it. I know several people in Europe for example, that I've never met, but trust enough to give a star to.

I also fully agree with Exka|ibur on his reply number 69... Something has to be done, and the trusted star was a good option. Even if you havent met the person, you can tell if they are into UE or not... so basically anyone who is really into UE should get a trusted star.

Maybe making it so untrusted people will only have access to 3 locations on the database in a 24 hour span would be helpful too... ??? I don't know, just an idea.

The problem with the trusted star is that it would be completely subjective. I may trust Exkal, but somebody else may think's shit. Some may think I'm the cat's ass, but others would bash my head in on sight.

How would you suggest we go about handing these things out? It just wouldn't work.
