Regardless of the laws.. It'd more then likely be worse if you stab and kill someone.. so even if a taser or spray is illegal it's clear that the attacker more then likely won't seek police and try to press charges (at least I would think) so the only thing you have to worry about if random searches.. So going by that if you taser or spray someone they'll stand up again and shake it off and run away.. If you stab someone then you are forced to deal with police, at least if your even slightly humane, due to medics and calling the police..
At least I would hope that you all would at least call an ambulance or something instead of leaving them to bleed out..

I dunno thats my view on that

I dont trust non-lethal weapons as far as I can throw them. Who's to say that they'd run away after being tazed or sprayed? They'd probably be pissed, in pain, and now they know you don't have the means to protect yourself with lethal force.

No, the guy in my av isn't actually me.

I think the question should now be to bring or not to bring: pets or pets:tool or weapon...

Try chasing someone after you just got a face full of 17% OC pepper spray. Sure you'll be pissed...and in severe pain, and unable to see, and having trouble breathing. I only need a few seconds to make my escape and it'll take that long for an attacker to even figure out what just happened to them. Would two to the chest from a .45 be more effective? Definitely, but, in Florida, carrying that .45 makes UEing a felony with a min/mandatory sentence of 10 years. Whereas carrying pepper spray and a pocket knife keeps the trespass at misdemeanor level as far as I've been able to determine. Legally it's the same as going unarmed but gives you a lot better fighting chance if attacked.

I'm not willing to risk going to jail for 10 years for my hobby. I am quite capable of estimating whether a location would likely require carrying a firearm to explore safely. If I make that call, to me it means finding another location. I am also confident that 99% of the dangerous situations I might run into while UEing that could be escaped by using a firearm could be escaped by using pepper spray (combined with a good fighting folder if need be).

Bottom line is that the chances of hitting a situation that can't be handled with pepper spray, but could be handled with a firearm, are MUCH MUCH MUCH lower than the chances of running into cops or security guards. Physical attacks on UErs are RARE. UErs getting stopped, patted down, arrested, etc. happens all the time. Read the forums. Count the stories. Be realistic.

I still say the drag queen in the cowboy hat and vampire fangs is the most effective self-defense weapon going.

Weapons may make you feel safer, but often they can escalate the situation. Keep in mind, they can also be used against you. Today, I was confronted when investigating a potential UE building, and used my speaking skills rather than a weapon to get out of it. Always use brains before violence.

No shit. I once had to whip out the fangs and the cowboy hat AND the drag queen and the whole situation went from Ugly to Worse than Ugly in less than 3 seconds. Fucking brutal.

Yer speaking skills? That sounds pretty fancy. What did you say? And in what language did you say it?

My drag queen speaks Ghetto Spanish...and it's fierce once she gets going.

Fuck the diplomacy bullshit. My drag queen uses 8 inch stilettos. I'll stick to the violence. It's always entertaining.

While having a big knife can be handy for prying and cutting through things using your brain and being aware of your surroundings will get you out of most situations. I have ran into vagrants while exploring and have normally scared them away. You should always explore with a buddie anyways incase you have a problem. If you are going to conceal a weapon get a CCW permit. I keep my big SOG dive knife strapped to the side of my backpack. It is in the open, easy to reach and perfectly legal for my part of the world. When out and about in the mountains in wyoming and montana it is recommended to carry a firearm. I do not recommend carrying a pistol except for a few situations. If you are out in the wilderness checking out a old homestead that has been abandoned for 100 years it is something that is good to have an recommended by forest rangers and other authorities. If you are sneaking into a working mine or on private property this would be a sure fire way to go to jail. If you are packing make sure you are following all local laws concerning a firearm. I have had a few encounters with wildlife that were not very pleasant while exploring old mines and ghost towns. Use your head, violence is the absolute breakdown of reason.

It was in September, we saw their silhouettes fade away, outlined on the horizon against the rays of the setting sun.

i bring a swiss army knife. No reason but other than I might need the tool. Its small, and it would take to long to open up in an emergency anyways. I do take a nice flashlight too.

I've ran into people plenty of times and never been anywhere near something happening to me. I've no need to carry a weapon. The first few times that I went out I took a spring police baton, but figured it useless since my flashlight is big (although not a maglight) and i never needed it, it was just dead weight.

My thing is, if you're going in, and need tools, bring a small swiss army, although it wont be good in an emergency (unless you forsee it and open it up ahead of time) it may be usefull in other ways.

Also, chances are you can see or hear trouble ahead of time (as trouble is also usually a lot louder than an explorer) and can get out of there or hide till they pass. It's not that hard. Don't confront anyone that looks like trouble, just go away and come back some other time.

Posted by surekill Also, you don't have to kill somebody absolutely if you pull it out. If you have the space you could blast a round past there head. I think most humans would run away.

Thats just wrong on so many levels. See, this is one of the biggest issues with guns, people dont get that theyre LETHAL weapons designed to be used LETHALLY.

If you think that its the right thing to bust out a gun and fire off a few rounds past their head, hell, shoot them in the foot, why not, youre not mature enough to own a gun, or to even handle them.

The things are made to kill, not to wound, not to make a big bang to scare the person away.

I dont own a gun, If I did i woudlnt take it UE'ing with me, but I can totally understand why somebody would, and if you do, thats totally your descision.

All these people saying "If you think you need a gun you shoudlnt be at the location" you need to leave your bubble of naivity and realise that a hell of alot of people use guns for things other then shooting elk up in good ole alberta. Hell, even in a city like boston thats pretty docile compared to most cities, I know that I wouldnt want to be out at night in southie alone, I dont doubt that walking around for a bit i could find somebody who would shoot and not think about it.

Made to kill != (not equal to) have to kill.

It is possible/preferable to scare them off by waving it around, shooting near them, or wounding them.

However, You must be willing to kill them if you have to.

Personally Im not 21 so I can't own a handgun, so I have a maglite and a pocketknife (I leave the butterfly as its illegal and only slightly faster if you know the improper onehanded opening techniques for a pocketknife)

I always bring the fangs, the cowboy hat and the drag queen. They've never let me down.

Always run with the knife, it makes you go faster...

That's just plain stupid. You could fall and get the knife in your fucking eye. Right in your goddamned eye. YEOW!

I once had to run like hell, and I had the fangs and the cowboy hat and the drag queen. Well...I stumbled on something (I think it was a dead body filled with bullet holes from Mark's Bad Ass Weapon), and I got one of her Lee Press On's in the ear. Took a week to pry the damned thing out. I got the fangs lodged in my throat. it was Bad Times all around.

Fangs, cowboy hat and drag queen. Stops terrorists dead in their tracks.
