| | | I always bring a rocket launcher and ammo with me, it acts great for: opening doors/fences/walls/etc. walking stick can provide temporary lighting if my batteries die can start a fire if its cold and I'm stranded and if I ever get truly pressed I guess now that I think about it I could possibly use it as a weapon.

| | | Well, Normally I wont bring weapons per se, though I will bring a pocket knife, swiss army knife, and a leather-man (Mechanical tools.) Also if I feel it is necessary I will bring pepper spray. As has been said earlier, a real problem arises when someone walks around carrying weaponry and decides to pull it out to either intimidate or impress as this can quickly lead to escalation when all you really wanted was lack of bodily harm. Mind you anyone who brings a weapon without knowing how to properly use it is making quite a large mistake regardless of the circumstance, even if you think that it would be intimidating. Anyone who knows enough about whatever weapon you are using (or the psychology of violence) will be able to tell if your full of shit or not.

| | | My team has agreed to, if confrontation with the boys in blue is imminent, ditch all of our gear (except cameras) and some of the more incriminating pieces of our wardrobe somewhere, because we live in a small town and can always return for it. Personally, i like to bring my (almost) foot-long combat knife, because you just never know. Usually, though, we rely on power in numbers.

Your in TN right? don't carry anything more then 4" the legal blade length there is 4 for open, concealed and fixed.. If you get caught with it it'll suck so you may as well carry a legal blade so you don't get perma-screwed http://pweb.netcom.com/~brlevine/tn.txt http://www.thehigh...des/knifelaws.html

| | | 99% of the people hear who carry knives will pull them out but never use them. That's a mistake that will get you killed. Knives are a dirty, quick, and brutal weapon. Ask any law enforcement officer and he'll tell you he fears a knife more than a gun in a close quarters confrontation. Most people would be far better off with some sort of blunt club like weapon. A baseball bat, length of pipe, or even a stick. They're easy to use and have good range. Plus easy to ditch. Whose goign to notice an extra peice of pipe laying around a junked site?

| | | I think that it certainly depends where you're going, and the likelihood of your meeting people, whether they be cops, hobos, or innocent bystanders. If I'm exploring a live building, I wouldnt bring anything more dangerous than a maglite (very good blunt object), because if you get caught by an especially pissy rent-a-cop, who's looking for any reason to harass you, then he may decide that your having a leatherman or whatever isn't allowed. Although they can be useful, it just doesnt seem like its worht the risk. As for firearms, if you're exploring somewhere where you expect to need to pull a gun, you need to think about whether it's a good idea to be there in the first place.

personally a knife is alot more useful then draggin a baseball bat around (and alot of people use the larger MagLites anyways) but if you get into a fight with a maglite or a bat you will have the same charges then if you pull a knife on someone (either way it's assault with a deadly weapon) so you may as well bring a small knife so you at least have a useful tool with you.. and running is a MUCH better plan then shankin someone anyways

| | | PIRATES?! They'll always get the best of those crazy ninjas... yah, i was kidding about the sword, and thanks for the info- i'll think twice now. however, i just got a two+ foot axe for christmas, and since it has a hooked lower edge and is pretty light, do you think it might be useful for climbing, say, walls? i wouldn't use it because it's not practical at all, but just wondering. man, that sounds stupid.

| | | See, if it sounds dumb to you, it might sound really dumb to others on the forum I can just picture the looks on the cops' faces while you explain why you're using axes to gain unauthorized entry into a building. Read one of the threads on grappling hooks, or one of the threads on improvised climbing, or read Access All Areas. Personally I think AAA should be required reading for new members, it tells you everything you need to know to avoid making silly mistakes (in real life and in online UE discussions).

| | | Fisticuffs are all I need, Sudden death or six weeks in the hospital, Lefty and righty, however ASP expandable batons can double as a probe and are only illegal if you use them on someone. That'd depend on the area I am sure.. AND if they are legal where you are they are more then likely legal with ill-intent.. and they can arrest you for nothing if you have times like that.. Ill-intent is assumed almost always.. don't get caught with something thats illegal with intent because it might as well be illegal.. Not to mention cops can just bend laws to thier need (even if the charges don't stick do you wanna spend the night in jail to test it, or get yer shit jacked by some beatoff with a badge?)

Yup, ever been pulled over for the "your tire looked bald, may I search your car?" I know I have. Ive even had them break a tailight, because I made them get a warrent to search my van, just so the cop could give me a ticket

| | | You might be able to get them in trouble for that, these days most cop cars have dahboard cameras, which would record them busting your light. Even little redneck police stations are getting fancy gear like that, they just have to whine to the feds that terr'rists are threatening the cows and they need a huge grant.
