Ok, so, is there a definite time & location of this meet? Where is this Oak Cliff exactly?

Alright guys, I'm already stoaked about this one. It's been too long since I've been exploring and way too long since I've been to a meetup.

Oh, and I was wondering something. I've been to two or three of these now and the turn out is always about 4 or 5. What's the largest DFW meetup so far, and how do we beat it???

And then, it asks the question: in a cold, uncaring, ruthless world of corporate slavery and assembly-line experiences . . . how is it possible to still live a life with strength, and passion, and with a soul that is still truly alive?

I've only been to 3 myself, but the last one had the most at 7 people, the 2 before that each had 6 so it's been a decent enough turn out. The swiftmass gathering is the largest that I've heard about, but I wasn't there so I couldn't say.

I'd really like to be at a large one. I know I don't make it out to many myself, so it's hard to hope for, but it would be really cool to have 10 or 12 people show. And again, I think we would all like it if we had a larger female turnout. All the ones I've been to produced 0 girls.

The largest one Ive been to was a couple of years ago and it had like 15 people I think.

Oh I talked to some friends so as far as I know we will have at least 2 girls.

I think that was the one I was at, right? At Friday's?

Why is it so important to have chicks there ? Is this a UE meet or a big matchmaking party, yo?

I thought it was a matchmaking UE meet?

I'm debating on maybe heading up for this one as well, I'll have to see if I can dredge up someone to head up there with me. The hubby isn't too into the exploring so I'm not sure if he'll tag along or not. It could be a good mini-cation, and I can up the girlie count.

I think this has the potential to be a good reality game show.

The only reason I think it'd be nice is because I like to connect with other ladies that like to explore, I had a blast down in Austin with Altaria, plus Rev was there so Ardamass had guy company, we were even it was a nice change from just being the only girl. It's not that important, just cool.

You know what's weird? I don't have any guy friends that like to explore. I stand alone. But I have a few gal friends that like to snoop around, plus I've turned my younger sister onto this stuff as well. So I can understand the ladies perspective I think. But I also like the idea of Urbex Matchmaking

Nobody's said anything contrariwise, so I've set up the event listing to reflect Sunday May 10, 2pm. That will give me time to get there after church -- I'm in the choir, so I can't (or shouldn't) just duck out randomly. [insert choirboy quip here.]

A note for those new to the forum: UER has a lot of cool features tucked away on that prodigious side bar, and one of them is labelled "Events". Click on it and you'll find the listing for the "dee-eff-dub-meet-n-greet", which may be one of the longest-running events in the system (its id number is 16!). Mad Props to Mellon_Collie, who kept it going for however long before I started helping out. There's a spot on the event page where you can RSVP "yes", "no", or "maybe".

Also, you can configure UER to send you a reminder when an event is about to occur near you. Go to "Profile", and hit the "I'd like to change my location" link. Then, hit "Requested Information". There you'll find a spot to enter your location, and an option for event notifications. May as well pick "500 Kilometers" (~300 mi), 'cause Texas is a BIG place.

Update: It looks like our event is the second oldest ongoing event in the system! The only active event with an eventid lower than ours is the Toronto UE Meet, eventid=6. The event organizer is "UER Events System" -- not a real user, which implies to me that Toronto's event is put together by the site owner himself (who, of course, is based in Canada, hence uer.CA).

That means we're second only to AV. That's pretty sweet.

That IS pretty sweet! I think we deserve some kind of new star for that.

I like the Amanda Hugankis bit. So how exactly would I recognize you guys if I've never seen any of you? Are you a rowdy bunch? Should I look for a group of people with cameras?

Just look for a group of people who look funny sitting together. I generally don't carry my camera into restaurants with me. I do however have dreads... so I might be the only person there with awesome hair.
