Hey all! My name's Josh. I've been into UE for a while, even been to this forum a bunch of times, but never actually explored or had anything to do besides lurk. Friends weren't really into it and I didn't want to/didn't know where to go alone. Then through a strange series of events, I ended up having a date with someone who knew willskith from these forums in an abandoned theater. I'm the type of person who spent hours finding glitches and beta levels in video games, and now I can't wait to get out there and find more real-life anomalies.

haha welcome to UER

Y hallo thar.

Teenage scotty person here, nice to meet you all. I'm pretty new to this. I've lurked around my town, clambering into abandoned buildings and such, but that was really just.. Well, killing time/getting in to trouble. I don't really know any decent places to check out, but the atmosphere of some of the places I do know of leaves me wanting more. I guess that's why I'm here.

But yeah. I should be around. I'm kind of shy sometimes, so you might not see me jumping into anything big, but I'll be here. Sorta.

*salutes*

Howdy all,
I am 29 years old and have been exploring for well over fifteen years. I never realized there was a whole group of like minded individuals on the net until just recently. I am married and have children, but I am still able to get my own time away to do some exploring. I love Star Wars, Star Trek, and computers. I play and collect guitars and enjoy old fashioned country music. I enjoy older things which leads to my desire to explore. I love older buildings, seeing the architecture and care that was given to the littlest things, really makes me hate the modern times. I prefer exploring abandoned homes, buildings, and the like. I just hate to see a decent house, or furniture, go to waste. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of folks on here and exploring some more places. Thanks!

Hey everyone,

I am a college student from the SF bay area. I have always been interested in the concept of urban exploration, but this is the first time I have actively taken part in anything, and I did my first UE a few weeks ago.

If anyone is in the SF area and wants to explore over a weekend, I would love to join you.

Howdy!

I'm Nick and live in the Dayton, Ohio area. I guess I registered for this place several years ago...and just...err...forgot about it? 0_o

Anyway, rediscovered this site while browsing the internet at work. I haven't done a whole lot of UEing, in fact many things I've "explored" I stumbled upon by accident.

I've always fond of things/places society has cast aside... abandoned buildings, junk yards, ect. I've spent many hours just wandering through junk yards, wondering what those wrecked cars would tell me about their history if they could talk. Seeing an abandoned or semi-destroyed building gets the same line of questioning going in my mind. What happened here? Why did this happen?

I don't get out and UE much (as I said before) due to my job position. Getting nailed on a tresspassing/B&E charge just wouldn't sit well at this point in my life. Granted the chances are slim... just not something I want to risk right now.

Hello, my name is Jeff. I am from Victoria, BC, and I am a rookie UER explorer.
My interests are art, french horn playing, mountain biking and road biking, and blackmetal music. Being from victoria, i am naturally interested in the tunnels here, but I also love exploring the above ground stuff here, too. That's who I am.

Hi, this is jeff again. Just wanted to post some info and get in touch with everyone! So about UER! I've read just about every page on this thread. You guys rock! I admire all of you, I really do.
So here's the rookie UERing that I've been up to.
-Found the (short) tunnel under Bay Street Bridge, posted some pics here.
-You know that epic Christ Cathedral by the graveyard? Was out with a friend, when we decided to go in. There were about 100 people inside at the time, listening to a latin choir. My french horn teacher once had to play from the tower for a concert, and told me that the towers were way cool. So I wanted in. Unfortunately, there's this weird electronic lock on the door. So I pressed a bunch of random buttons on it, and it started lighting up and going all weird. My friend and I left. But just as we were leaving, I noticed the priest was opening the door to check what the hell was going on. He went up the steps, leaving the door open behind him. We followed. Man, the steps up the tower are sweet! Hellla narrow, steep, real old. Unfortunately, the priest came back down and almost caught us.
-stuck my nose in Johnson st bridge tunnel. I was alone, so I chickened. Not sure if safe.
-found entrance to ross bay cemetary tunnel (that tanuki, jpete, and who else wnt in?). The long one that goes to Fernwood's former Harris Lake, right? I won't say where it is, 'cause i heard that people don't want openings made public. But if the opening was inside the cemetary, would I be right to assume that it's not the storm drain one that goes into the ocean and that jpeterman almost got soaked by a wave in? Anyways, I know a cool guy at school who's dad (who works in search and rescue) is insanely experienced, and so is he. so we're going to see how far we can go in the Ross Bay tunnel. We're going to be real careful, though, even if lots of random people supposedly go in. Just in case, we're bringing gas masks, meters, and all that. Anyone is welcome to join us!!!!!! We're probably going to go next Saturday.
-begun UERing Victoria High School, where I go to school. I love the place, it's a great school, not just as in the people, but also the architecture.
Ever look under the stairs? Lots of people have been in them. Just waiting for a day when they leave the door unlocked, as they often do.......
Tons o' stuff I haven't been in, but will.........never been in tunnels yet.....
BUT, FOUND THIS COOOOOOOL ROOM WITH SOME FRIENDS!Was with some friends(including the gent i just mentioned above), bumbling around. ________ room was unlocked, for a change. Now, I believe that there are 1 or 2 secret rooms already known to exist that are accessed by the ________ room, but I think this may possibly be a NEW DISCOVERY(or somewhere that people haven't bothered to post about). As we stepped in the wight room, lo and behold, there it was, a solid grey metal grate 2'by2', previously un-suspect, flung wide open.
We crawled in. There was a big dark room with slideing doors pulled halfway down. Beyond these doors was a huge room, and the ceiling was.....nowhere! There was some kind of staircase or something to climb on that went way up...someone else went up. It was insane. The old elevator shaft!!!
Next day(yesterday)we found the door was locked. How to get in? Found a hole in ceiling. One of us went in. Crawled above room, where another hole was cut, dropped down, unlocked door. This time we went in shaft again and took GOOD pics......one of my friends will post them here soon for you guys. By the way, i also went into the ceiling. Crazy up there! Huge! Pipes, cables, pipes (real old ones)everywhere! Then when I was up there, (very creepy) gym teacher came.
Had to get down.....we SPLIT.
UER folks, come to vic high while this special opportunity lasts!!!!!!!!
If you think it would be okay for me to post which room you get into this stuff is, I'll post it. But I don't want to get anything sealed off.
So, I've also heard that the UER victoria thread is slowing down a little...here's some of my lame rookie ideas of new places to go:
-Cole island, near CFB esquimalt. 150 year old munitions houses on island........munitions still inside. I know a guy who's been there.
-Turners/ian's coffee shop building...looks easy to get into...
-abandoned house next to it
-Christ cathedral tower
-vic high limited time offer as long as reno's going on........
-other stuff at vic high

EXTENSION:
We should all do a field trip and do some UERing in Nanaimo. Old factories galore, mine shafts, probably enough tunnels to start up a whole new thread.
Google earth map search of a town called Extension. It's south east of Nanaimo and is,well, out in the boonies, big time. Used to be the 2nd biggest town on the island, coal mining was it's name. Used to be huge...5 hotels 11 churches...a chinese, yugoslav, scottish, ukrainian, british camps(sounds there was lots of fucking racism back then...) all full of people toiling to finance the Dunsmuir family.
So I went mountain biking there. Good biking. The town is small now 100 souls, perhaps, but one nice house with very friendly people in it...can't be missed because it has an impressive sculpture of some poor chinese laborer hauling coal on the front lawn. Meet the artist. He's a cool guy. Part of the display is a restored coal cart hauled from a mine shaft. REAL COOL.
In town, there is a boarded up general store. Probably worth exploring.
There's also a 200 foot high pile of coal in town.
And mine shafts, people! I have a lousy map that points you where they are.
Go out on the mtb trails........there's weird shroomed out stuff in the woods...
cool rock formations with wizards under them....a bizarre rock maze for meditation, this big ass crack in the ground that you could easily fall into, caused by some earthquake coupla decades ago.
Extension is cool. I've posted some photos. Pardon if they're a little disorganized.

Anyways, that's my schpiel. My friends who are more experienced probably have some much cooler stuff to post......they'll soon post stuff that's better than what I put down here. I'd love to go exploring with you guys and girls.
Unfortunately, im very, very busy. I'm trying very hard right now not to fail honours math in school. It would probably be bad if i did fail.
But I am free THIS saturday/ sunday afternoon.....join me next saturday in ross bay.....I'm also free Tuesday nights if I get enough homework done. Also Wed+thurs from 3:15 to 4:40. Could maybe change schedule slightly.
Or meet me at a metal show. Look for a guy named Jeff at a show 7;00 dec. 5 @camas bookshop...i'll also be at an iskra show dec. 20.....same time, same place(maybe at8:00).
Pardon for writing such a long post, and for posting too many images..the guy in them is my dad by the way...your welcome to delete some of the pics if they take up too much room...it's just ihad trouble with getting them on here....
have a great day
jeff

Hey all, I'm a relative beginner at this hobby but I've been enthusiastic for a year or so. I'm in the Northern Virginia area, about 20 minutes southwest of DC. I just hit 16 years of age a week or so ago, so I can't get out to explore as much as I like, but I do as much as I can.

As I said, I'm a beginner, but I take all the opportunities I get. The other day I looked around a bit at where I thought a potential large drain could be (I've been looking around on Google Maps a lot, looking for where streams spontaneously start or end, and I've marked down quite a few locations where I think they could be). It was a fun journey, which involved me sliding through a tiny hole underneath a fence (not easy, since I'm 6'2 and I have a large frame) and finding my way in the dark through what I can honestly say is the largest concentration of spiky plants I have ever seen. However, sadly...my efforts were met with failure, as it was just a large pit with three tiny RCPs (1 foot in diameter) dripping into it. Oh well.

Also, a mall near me is in a state of disrepair, so I took the liberty to poke through the emergency exits with my friend, and I happened upon a run of good luck when I found a few open doors. I'm generally respectful of property and won't do anything to get myself a breaking and entering charge, per se, but I won't refuse an open door. Anyway, I took a few videos of us looking through the former fitness center we found, and put them in chronological order that basically encompasses our whole trip. If you've got 6 minutes, check it out: http://www.youtube...atch?v=E93asfLi1RQ . I know it definitely may not be interesting to the more experienced of you, but...hey, it's my first contribution at least.

Anyway, I guess that's about it. I'm more of a lurker than a poster, which won't help much with me getting full membership, sadly. I also travel down to the Richmond area every so often, so there's stuff I will be checking out down there too when I get the chance.

Woo, sorry that was so long. Anyway, glad to be a part of the community, and hope to see you all around.

Hi, this is jeff again. I've been trying really hard to figure out why I can't post my stuff dirctly to the victoria thread, but I must have misread something. Anyways, I was just curious if anyone in the UER has an opinion on how safe/dangerous the ross bay tunnel is. John McFetrick told me that poison gas is something not to be messed with, that only hardcore UERers should go in tunnels where gas meters are necessary. I take his advice seriously. Now, I was planning to go to Ross Bay with a hardcore guy........he's gone in a lot of dangerous gas filled tunnels with his dad, and used gas masks and meters extensively. Still, I'M A ROOKIE. We were planning to be real careful and bring masks down just in case. But still, I was really just curious: is the Ross Bay tunnel safe enough for a rookie, even if he's with someone experienced? I mean, the guy went to a tunnel once under the E&N roundhouse and there was so much gas his meter broke...., so he knows what he's doing, but if Ross Bay is real dangerous, maybe I should give it a pass. We'll wait till we hear from you guys before going.
Thanks aton,jeff

Jeff - I would highly recommend you get more practice before you attempt something that is potentially life-threatening. I personally would not do it, but if you trust your partner, think you're adaptable, and understand the possible consequences, it's your decision.

As an append to my earlier story about the drain scouting failure, I went back during the day, and found out that what I thought was the end of the stream, wasn't the end of the stream. I followed it a bit more, and I found a 4.5' RCP. I went in it about 350 feet or so, and I reached a junction room. As I was alone and my flashlight was not too good, I turned around. I'm going back this afternoon with a friend, good flashlight, and a camera, so I may post something about it here in a few days. Hoping my first real drain exploration goes well.

And oh man, just after that bit of walking hunched over my quadriceps were unbearably sore. Have any of you experienced that? My legs are in good shape, so it's not inactivity or anything contributing to it. I think it may have been that the way I was walking was putting pressure on that part of my leg to sustain my body weight instead of, say, my lower legs. Who knows.

Hello everyone,

I am John, 28 years old and live in Syracuse NY but grew up on Long Island (Kings Park to be specific). I am kind of new to this UE stuff, I have checked out a few old places that I came across but never actually planned to go somewhere for UE purposes. Well actually I wanted to make my first real trip out last week, when I went to long island for Thanksgiving. I was going to try to get into some of the buildings at Kings Park Psychiatric Center but my asbestos masks didn’t arrive on time (Dam UPS). I really want to get into that place because I grew up in the town and was always curious about it. I probably won’t get back down there until this spring or summer if I am lucky, really looking forward to it.

Well anyway I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. This is a great site you have here. Thanks to all those who set all this up and maintain it, you’re doing an awesome job.

My name here is undead. I live in tulsa. I'm looking for like minds to form a group that searches for and explores the hidden in this world. If you'll look on the rookie threads and the main threads I've posted about forming this new squad. Hopefully I can find people who want to join with and become a part of this crazy shit. We are also interested in seeking out possible haunted places, too. We've already been to some creepy places and would love to seek out more.
So read about it and give me a shout. We are taking all ideas and suggestions. We're new to this, but are very excited about it.
