Hello all,

I am a new member, so let me introduce myself..

My name is Julian, or Jay for short. I'm from Sacramento, Ca. This is an awesome site, and it's nice to see that so many people share the love of exploration like I do. I have been into UE'ing for quite a while, and I would have never guessed that there were so many people that think it's as neat as I do.

I am into photography, and though it's not my line of work, it's something that I feel passionately about. I have always been into increasing my knowledge of little known or abandoned places. I don't care for people that find these places and rip them to shreds in an attempt to scavenge scrap for money. I am also not a huge fan of taggers that ruin these places and turn them into silly gang art murals. (Although some tagging art is impressive..)

The place that was my big start for UE'ing, was what is known to most as "The Helendale bunker" although it's real name is actually Hawes Tower. This was my first major exploration, and it still remains the most impressive to me. I have gathered a lot of past and present information on the site (Including detailed pictures of the site during it's operation) and I am willing to share my knowledge of this now non-existent UE spot with all members.

I have plans to go and explore what was the Dixon VOA site, as well as the 77cw transmitter site in davis. I am always scoping out new places and would love to get some friends together to explore these places.

About me: I am a relaxed, funny, and cheerful guy, I work for a computer company that I'm sure you've all heard of, and I am always looking to meet new interesting people. I really respect that you all seem to take such care when exploring these sites, and that you are not out there vandalizing these sites like some bored teens do..

Ok, I have taken way too much of your time, and I will go now. I just need to say THANKS to freeside for introducing me to this place. I look forward to meeting/hearing from you all, and thanks for having me.

-Julian

Sounds fun! Let's go!

Hi, this is jeff. About there being no photos on my post? That's my negation. I'm very clumsy with the computer, and I accidentally posted my photos in the very wrong place. But I thought they were visible for all. So I'm going to re-post them properly sometime soon. And I'll post them on the 'Under the Garden City: secret tunnels of Victoria' thread. I have a friend who has the photos of vic high, so I'll nag him to also post them on the same thread. I haven't seen his photos yet, but they should be pretty cool, I hope.
If I create any sort of clumsy mess on the UER, please pardon me. I am still getting used to using this site. Thank you, have a good day.

Hello all,

I've been lurking on and off for a year now, but I thought I would actually say hello.

I'm pretty much a rookie. Though I've been interested in UE for quite a while, I haven't done any significant actual exploration. For the past couple of summers I've taken trips to visit some of the small and/or semi-abandoned towns in Washington State (Index, Roslyn, Olympic peninsula towns like Queets). None of these trips were serious explorations though.

I'm from the Boston area, and I'm hoping to start exploring some nearby sites.

Hey everyone, my name is Jamie. I live in the suburbs, so Urban Exploration has proved difficult. Mississauga is dominated by shiny modern developments and not having a car hinders my ability to see the places tucked between all that homogenous modern bs.

I was born in Ireland and was lucky to do tonnes of exploration there, yielding some awesome results. Hopefully I'll be able to get out a bit more over here, and see what the Great White North has to offer.

My main passion however is music. I play several instruments and have my own recording studio. I'm also in a punk band called "Dance Electric". If you'd like to check them out, the myspace is:

Looking forward to speaking to you all.

Hey whats up. I'm pretty new to the whole exploring website thing. I've been doing this for about 5 years(not realizing theres an actual online community out there). I got my older brother into it and he suggested this site to me. Im based out of Maryland but have traveled as far as Connecticut to take in the sites. I'm primarily interested in photography and will be posting pictures soon. Thank you.

It all started when I was very young, visiting my grandparents who lived in Walford, Ontario. We were quite young, but had the run of the land pretty much...and my favourite place to play was this teeny abandoned house way back behind the neighbours house. It was basically one room on ground level, and one up (but the stairs were long gone) and not much was left, but I loved it anyway.

When I was a bit older (10-ish maybe?) my Dad took me to the abandoned Burwash Prison for the first time and I thought it was the coolest thing. I loved walking through the prison building, and exploring the houses the staff lived in. We went 2 more times over the years, but the last time we were there a guard was there and told us we would have to leave. I was so bummed, and now the area is used for military training so I don't think you can get in unless you really want to risk it.

As a teen and young adult, I didn't realize anyone really did stuff like that, and though I loved taking guided tours through old houses when travelling, it never occurred to me to just go exploring around where I live. It wasn't until I was married with kids that I started poking around to see what was on the internet, and I realized I wasn't the only one who got a thrill from doing stuff like that. I feel sort of tied down though, by my current role in life...that of responsible mother to young children who is not willing to risk trespassing charges or falling through the floor of some weathered old place and leaving my children orphaned. I SO would have been up for that earlier in my life though, and I regret that I never thought of it, or knew anyone else who thought of it.

So, for now, I live vicariously through all the great pics that are available online. I have had in the past a tendency to throw the kids in the car at nap time and go driving down every barely used overgrown road I could find just to see what was there, while they slept it out in the backseat, but now they're too old for that. lol I have a special fondness for old houses with lots of stuff left in them (I think that's my nosiness showing through), buildings built with character and nice architecture, and creepy places like hospitals, etc. My husband is really not into doing any UE with me, but I think I can convince my Dad to come out with me eventually. For now, I'll be doing a lot of looking, but would love to someday be a contributor, too.

Hi, Everyone. My name is Martin and I´m a explorer with two years of experience of photographing abandoned places. I´m a outdoor electrician and work in various places so abandoned locations are found almost once a week. I started with exploring while visiting my grandmother in Kasti village and found an empty box of flats standing only 50 meters away from there, i explored it but i didn´t had an camera then (i was 8 years old only when i started).

Status: Walking in abandoned place in Estonia.

Hey whats up all,

I'm from california and am 46, been going out exploring since i was about 10 or so and i'm still at it today.

Ive been reading the forums for a couple weeks now trying to understand if I fit in here or not. Basically I like to look for some past evidence of mankind, this includes looking for mines, tunnels, train tracks, building and any human artifacts such as auto's cans, bottles, ect.

Back when i first started out it was close to home and i used to dig up every inch of ground, Hit pay dirt one day and found the buried incinerator which had many old bottles for milk and such.

By the time I was 15 i started to walk about 1 to 2 miles to the base of the mountains and got really excited when i found the base of Mt. Lowe's incline(the so called seventh wonder of the world). This was the start of my fond memory of finding out that i wasn't the only person into exploring.

A friend and I had walked for about an hour up hill and made it to where the old red car tracks (from pasadena ca.) met the incline from the Mt. Lowe railway in the sky. After several minutes of looking for a way to begin our climb up the incline slope (the first 50 feet or so was bridged to reach the mountain but had since burned down) we found a few foot holds and made our way up the mountain. There was pleny of ties still down (but no rails)with brush including cactus growing up between them, the grade was a little over 53% and went for about half a mile. We didnt bring enough water and ran out before we got to the incline and all we think was getting to the top and being most likely the first people up there in 40 years, if not for that thought i'm not sure we would've not kept going. by the time we got near the top we both were dirty and bleeding from the cactus and brush we were going threw. We saw the top was near we could see part of the old concrete platform station ahead . . and then all of a sudden . . TRASH, thats right trash, soda cans, chip bags and assorted modern day trash. . OMG . we couldn't believe other people made this hike, we were loosing are footing and sliding down on virgin dirt not a foot print anywhere but our's the whole way up so how could there be trash there we asked each other. a few moments later we heard talking and sure enough we get to the top and there was about 8 ppl up there When i asked how they got up there a guy told me, we took the trail of course, next question of course was is there any water near by, couple miles down the trail he said.

That was my first big exploration and the beginning of a system of what i do ever time i find a new site to explore to this day. I went to the library and looked up all the info i could about that site and found a book i liked and bought myself a copy, after that i explored the site another 15 to 20 times going further and finding more hidden secrets. Now i get on the internet as soon as i find a new site but really its the same as when i was a kid, I really live for the adventure and walking in the footstep of those before me who made thier mark on the land and trying to put myself in thier place.

The reason I decided to join here is because whan someone does a great write up on a site with good pic's its very cool. Not here for name calling or arguing and such so i hope to stay out of that, I get enough of that in my everyday life. I see many expressed feelings about what they believe is right or wrong, I try not to judge others as much as i can and hope that if i ever have an opinion to make to be sure i state that is what i believe in and not what i expect from others.

Cheers and as soon as i get a better idea of these forum i'll post some pic's. I just really started talking pic's and there just of some places ive been lately, not really like the wonderful artwork ive seen here by others.

Anyways i know this was long but wanted you all to get a good feel for me.

Greetings from the far north.

My name is Brett, I'm rather new to the site, but have been doing a bit of UE for a long time. I love old historic buildings!

Born and raised in Sunny SoCal, I now live in Anchorage AK.

I work for the darkside by day, and a UE/Photog by night.

If you are ever in the area please let me know, I'd be more than happy to do some exploring with you.

Hello everyone, I'm Brian. This is my first post here on UER. I've been lurking here for several days and I completely forgot that I registered six months ago.

I've been exploring more since April this year. I'm a regular at Urban Atrophy Forums and I post my sets there.

I'm a pediatric nurse at night and a photographer by day (as a hobby). I've loved photography since I was 12 but never really have gotten serious about the hobby until I started to explore more. And the credit card can vouch for that!

Anyway, looking forward to posting on UER more!

Hello, I am Peter. I ve been exploring for a year now, mostly drains. This hobby was started after i accidentally roamed into the outfall of one of drains in my area on the construction site. I returned with a flashlight and explored it until it became too small.
By now, the biggest one i went to explore was Wilket Creek's corridor. Since its so long and wide, i took my bike in it. Bike-draining i pretty awesome=).
The most interesting one i ve seen so far was York's drain because of all the iron oxide/calcium carbonate growth that it has inside. (York is the uni i go to). It is populated by raccoons which, btw, are very good at climbing the stepirons.
I do my explorations alone, but it would certainly be better if someone could join me. I want to see older Toronto' s downtown drains and other things. If you have smth else in mind, also let me know.

Greetings,

I'm new here, and sorta new to exploring. I've never done anything larger than houses, but would love to try.

I currently live in Tallahassee Florida, but am originally from south Alabama, where I did all my exploring.

I would love to hear from anyone near Tallahassee, or in the areas around.

Thank you!!

What the heck, I'll post in this thread (although I'm sure no one really keeps a close watch on it). I'm "Ogre Battle" and am in the Chicago metropolitan area. I've been to a number of locations around here, but nothing really that's not already been explored by more senior members. Looking for possible get-togethers with others in the area, let me know.

Hello. My name's Kristen. I live in Pittsburgh, PA. I'm a complete nub when it comes to urban exploration, but I've seen a few locations and I'm eager to see more.

I've been reading the forums and browsing the site for a few months, though I've only recently started posting anything. I'm afraid I've already violated the rule about modifying posts because I'm kinda picky about punctuation and word selection, and I want to be careful about violating any other rules. .-.

Anyway, if I don't get banned for that, hahah, I'll be around. It's a pleasure to meet you all.
