Why is no one is jumping on the opportunity to crawl up side pipes with DongDemolisher69 - Posts: 1?

Haha oh yeah I guess it is pretty scary down there. Anything else you would recommend checking out around here? I've seen similar tunnels/ pipes/ culverts near Gordon head/ mount doug, but haven't been able to find dick in the downtown Victoria area. Especially frustrating since I recall talking to some guy outside a party last year who mentioned there was a ton of interesting stuff.

Posted by CanadianMetalFan Too bad I missed that beautiful brick work in the Ross Bay Drain. Almost had tears in my eyes when I realized that... I guess there is the Fernwood drain still with the brick work. Seems like most of these rumours surrounding tunnels and drains are actually rooted in fact. Very interesting. I need to do a lot of exploring late spring/summer. Cheers, CMF

Fernwood drain...? I think I've read every post in this thread at some point and haven't heard of it, maybe time for some poking around

Yeah I wasn't assuming. I live in town, so whenever. Hit me up.

Yeah I've pretty much read the whole thing too. I don't remember anything about a fernwood drain.
|
|
isn't the fernwood drain just the burrow of the beast? old harris creek drain? don't know if it is walkable all the way to fernwood but the spring that fed harris pond still lives under Vic High and still ends up in Rock Bay. Don't know if any of the recent drain improvements have affected it tho I did see some crews near the Hillside complex entrance. Happy splorin'. Good season for it.

I dunno! If so then I'm less confused.

I was referring to the Harris Creek Drain yeah, I know where it is, but haven't explored it. As far as I know the Burrow is elsewhere, but I'm confused as to exactly where it is. If anyone wants to PM and throw ideas around I would welcome that. Got a few general ideas, but haven't found anything concrete. CMF

Actually its brick not concrete lol. Pretty sure it's just the lower section of the same system. Goes right under the park where someone went missing many moons ago. Poor kid. Hope they solve that one eventually.

Well that's an interesting development, had no idea they were connected. Found an old map that seems to confirm the same. CMF

Has anyone taken all the branches leading off the Bowker creek tunnel? I saw some guys down there last week but they were on drugs and didn't really describe it in any decipherable detail. Also FYI guys you can find some of the tunnels via google maps. Pretty sure that since Victoria sits right on dolomite or limestone bedrock, drainage is all surface, and you can follow the tree-lined drainage streams to where they inexplicably disappear under suburbs or city.
Currently looking for the section that goes from the Shelbourne/Cedar Hill X area to UVIC, but have had no luck. I recall seeing a pic of a map that described the section as 1-2.5km long, definitely would be worth walking through. Any tips or tricks?

on a different note, dongdemolisher is a great name. it really is in the true spirit of this thread.

Very clever! Vic Map is great too, though it ONLY contains infrastructure and not natural streams etc.

Not sure exactly. There are some clearly visible streams in that area north of Hillside mall on Google maps, but it would be way easier with a topo map, or even better a watershed map

Ah so some of the old timers might have noticed how the total amount of graffiti and rate of change in the hall of wonders has changed so drastically. Looks like this is due to traffic caused by the UVIC caving club, they brought a bunch of people down there for a Halloween event last fall and people from that group have been revisiting with friends.

yeah anyone who goes down there now wouldn't be able to see it's original purpose as the hall of wonders, with the time-period related art being most gone by now. I've got a folder with lots of the original pieces and their respective captions if anyone is interested.1.

Hey Guys! Just needed to post since I finally made it to the end of the thread!!! Discovered this thread a couple of weeks ago and have thoroughly enjoyed reading each and every page! What a roller-coaster ride; discoveries, trolls, some AWESOME pictures, off-topic ramblings, folks positing and vanishing only to re-appear years later, I enjoyed it all! I've lived in Victoria most of my life and have just started to get into draining, did the Hall of Wonders and Fireman's slide in August (I'll track down my pictures and post a couple) and looking forward to checking out Douglas Darkie as well as a couple of spots I've been scoping out when the weather dries out. If anyone's interested in meeting up for beers or coffee (or some exploring for that matter) I'd love to meet some other local UE'ers.
