My advice, though, is to go with a Legacy with a manual transmission.

Goes without saying. I love me a 5-speed!

I've heard about the seals, also about the head gaskets...apparently the ones Subaru used for a while sucked. Also there's two head gaskets on these cars - one on each bank of cylinders, so that's more gaskets to replace, or $$$. I'll make sure to inspect the exhausts - thankfully we use magnesium chloride on our roads here rather than salt, which helps save cars.

I'm going to go check out another one today, a white '93 Legacy. Rally car in the making? We shall see!

I've heard the early Legacys had shift linkage issues. Probably fixed or updated if it's still running though.

Might want to avoid an '06...

Technically, I'm parked in the middle of an abandoned settlement, in front of a power plant. However, being retarded, I only took photographs away from the buildings. The pole in the back dates back to the Soviet times, though.

Anyway, that's my current exploration setup. Some mandatory gear is also pictured.

I hate all the stuff I have to carry. Have you ever tried to explore an abandoned power plant with a rifle slung in your back? It gets caught up EVERYWHERE and hits you in the head every now and then.

The bushings just get sloppy over time, it's a REALLY simple linkage setup.

Anyone in here drive a Subaru? I looked at two first-gen Legacy wagons today, I have a feeling one might make a really good mountain car/expedition vehicle.

I had a first-gen Legacy. Look up reviews online - pages upon pages of people telling you they're indestructible.

Mine was, by far, the worst piece of shit I've ever owned.

Hopefully simple = cheap repair. Loved my '81 4WD Wagon, but paying the dealer to replace the 2nd gear syncro was no fun. Also with 8 CV boots, it's not uncommon to find one split or leaking. Great car though, bought for 1500.00 and squeezed ten years out of it. Including some nasty trail stuff. Am now interested in an early Legacy wagon. Tahoe gas mileage is getting me on the bike/causing mental distress.

'Inexpensive and built to stay that way' Maybe. Until you need exhaust work. Good tag line though...

Always have a soft spot for Sub's and boxers. Used Volvo 240 or Mazda MPV? Pack it with explosives and make a movie. Pardon rant.

Awesome. Hopefully in ten years the farmhouse will be restored and the Sunfire abandoned.

No offense to the car, cars just don't normally last as long as farm houses.

I didn't choose to have that sunfire... It was given to me free immo. He only has 130000kms on it with no rust. But I have problems with corrosion on the wires.
