Those Chrysler were shit. You probably got the one good one out of all of them. As for the 'piston slap', you silly bastard, it was nothing. It was the hardened rings that they used. They were noisy when cold. Yeah, the gaskets leak. So fucking what. I can do the upper end of a 60-degree V6 in less than 6 hours. I've seen so many of those engines go 200,000+ miles after enduring piss poundings you can't imagine. Chrysler LH? Fragile, expensive to repair, goofy to work on and they look like your mother-in-law's fat ass.
those LH-bodies and Buick Century/Regals are the official car of trailer parks everywhere.
| I've seen that were noisy after warmed up. My grandmother had an '03 Impala that leaked at 65,000kms...and then again at 125,000kms. Once replaced under warranty and then out of her pocket. $900 later at the dealership my dad worked at. Goofy to work on, no, they're stupid to work on those LH but I cannot say that I was every gentle with either the 300M or Intrepid. And why call me a silly bastard? Those engines were known for piston slap, my neighbour replaced the engine in his Malibu because it would knock all the time. We obviously don't see eye to eye. I hate GMs and you hate Chryslers. I've been happy with them and you have been happy with your GM. Oh and I wont call you any names because of that either ;)

| i have no idea what was wrong with your engine, but I've had several 3100's and one 3.1L. What it sounds like is the people that did the work on those engines didn't know what they were doing. The reason those engines leaked was that old chestnut of 'lowest bidder'. The gaskets were shit and did not react well to Dexcool. Also, the 60-degree V's are noisy engines. They always have been all the way back to the very early 80's when they introduced the fucking thing. Do you know where the LH body came from? Hmmm? I'll bet you don't... The Chrysler LH body can trace its origins all the back to Renault. Then it was called the Premier. And then, when Renault went tits up in America and Eagle was formed after the dissolution of AMC by Chrysler, the LH-body got one step closer in what was called the Dodge Monaco/Eagle Premier. On top of that, the Chrysler New Yorker and Dodge Dynasty also used those mechanicals. All Chrysler had to do was tie it together with a gimmick... Cab forward and VOILA! The Dodge Intrepid, Chrysler Concorde and the Eagle Vision. I loved the Intrepid design when it came out. It really was an interesting design. The Eagle Vision TSi was the one I thought looked the most pissed. But... with the test of time, they were found wanting... especially their powertrains. I have seen so many of these cars scrapped up here, it would probably make you shed a tear.

| If someone knows a bit of late 80's early 90's history from Chrysler, it's me, lol. The LH were designed deriv from the Premier, but the Dynasty/Ney Yorker were nothing related other than being built by ChryCo. The Dynasty was an extended K-car platform. Even the 3.0L in the Premier was in no relations with the 3.0L used by Chrysler at the time (from Mitsubishit) I've seen alot being scrapped, especially with the infamous 2.7L sludge machine. Noisy it is, just like any other pushrod engines made. Just like any companies, they want the lowest bidders to maximize profit. Is it a good way to go, big car companies seem to think so. Think of the customers they lost to Japanese car companies because of their penny pinching lowest bidding war. All 3 American companies did the same in the 90's. Look at ford with their headgasket problems with the 3.8L and we can go on for hours.
