| | | Hello all! My name is Zach (Zachary if you want), and I was introduced to draining by a friend of mine, Strangeplaces. Every day I would go to work he wold tell me about a new drain or site he went to and urged me to come along... so I did, and ended up running from what we think was security and crawling through a half man sized pipe lined with dried feces for an hour or so =-/ . Even that didn't tarnish my outlook on visiting other drains and I have recently come back from an exploration with a few members off this site, Hi-lite, Strangeplaces and brian_h. These guy showed me what it is to be passionate about draining and i'm ready to step up =-p. Anyway nice to meet you all and I hope I become a valuable addition to this large community!

for resizing pictures there are plenty of free programs out there. On windows I really like paint.net http://www.getpaint.net/ as a general purpose photo editor. It can do the basics like resizing and I've had limited success in doing some HDR stuff with it. I use XnView http://www.xnview.com/ for browsing images and you can also batch covert a folder of pictures easily. I use image magik on mac and windows for resizing, but that's not very user friendly. Oh, and welcome.

I personally use Gimp http://www.gimp.org/ . Not sure if anyone else has experience with it (I would imagine there are plenty of people out there considering it is free), but It fills my needs and its free. I will have to take a look into the stuff you posted, free stuff rocks.

I've used The Gimp since the beginning of the year. I highly recommend the Wavelet Denoise plugin. With a point-and-shoot camera and draining pictures you get a ton of noise, and nobody really likes speckly unicorn drains in their shots. Now I have a new camera and I might have to work with 'real' tools like color balance and stuff. The Gimp is good because you don't need to bother with torrenting like 2GB of licensed software.

| | | Hey Everyone I am looking forward to finally doing what sounds like one of the most exciting activities out there. Basically, I am quitting my full-time dead-end job in retail at the end of this month, so I plan on having a lot of free time. What better way to make use of it by exploring the world that I live in, but never seem to have time to discover. I plan on exploring the whole city either by bus or on foot, finding the abandoned buildings but also the places that everyone enjoys who visits this city. I have lived here for 21 odd years but there are many places that I really should become acquainted with, even if it just means finding the best place to chill out and enjoy the day(beside a river; on a warehouse roof; the greenspace a 10 min walk away). I am currently in the process of collecting an urban expedition kit, one of the final things is to modify my camera to take near-infrared pictures. I am not fully sure of what I hope to accomplish through discovering my city, but I know that I will have a lot of fun being an urban adventurer. Its all about mindset.

Uh, I hope you'll have some sort of income for this new hobby. It can get expensive when buying packs, lights, and other fun tools. At least have a part time job somewhere to support your new hobby... My two cents. -- Oh, welcome.

Haha, yeah I'll always need money. I'm just quitting my job in retail so I can figure out what type of job I really want to do. I might be able to get a job as an airplane groomer at the airport, but I want a vacation so I wouldn't start until after Canada day. Thanks for the welcome.

| | | Hi, there -- newbie, here. I have always been interested in UE, although I recently learned that there is actually a name for it, and groups of people who do this. I've done mostly "legal" UE, gaining access through jobs, friends, etc... am working up the nerve to learn how to get into other places. Anyway, I've done some photography and can't wait to indulge my obsession with creepy, old buildings.

| | | Greetings all, My name is Sean and I am a Lighting Designer who is starting to get more and more into photography. Currently I am writing my thesis in completion of my Masters of Fine Arts in Lighting Design. I was born and raised in Arizona, currently live in Indiana, and will me moving to Kalamazoo, Michigan to start my first real job in about a month. I have dome some minor exploring in Arizona with my friends, and was extremely excited when I found this site. I have moved away from all my friends that enjoy doing this type of activity and am looking forward to hopefully meeting some fellow explorers to hang out with. I think the process to become a full member is great (even though it is a little frustrating) and I am sure it help to preserve the locations listed. I look forward to getting to know some of you! -Sean

| | | Hello to everyone, just found this website last week and pretty excited to tour some new spots this year. I would love to hear from anyone in the Detroit area who goes on regular expeditions. I'm familiar with a couple of the standard places to see around here, and would love to add more to my list. I also have a strong urge to do some draining in the city, but my knowledge about that is limited to my hometown. To the folks who run this site, thanks for compiling and sharing the knowledge, it looks terrific. Hope to meet some others soon!

| | | New member, long time UE. Have some great photos to share. As soon as I get them formatted, I will post photos of Eric Honnecker's bunker in Berlin, a cement factory in Philadelphia, The 'Divine Lorraine' Hotel, and while not underground, I made it up onto the roof of the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan before it closed for renovation. cheers, -mouse
