Here's my photo album of Skaggs.

http://photobucket...ums/e178/andrewcd/

I've been in there a lot. If you've been in there and seen a fatty blockade across the main road, that was me..... Sorry.

I saw some scrappers in there the other night, scared the hell out of me.

Also, anyone know if that thing that looks like a smokestack from far away is still in use? Cause I rode my bike up to the gate by it and read the part about "tampering with this could result in the loss of human life" and I left.

I keep remembering things I need to ask..... Over by that building with all the power supply stuff and the busted computers, if you look away from the highway, you will see a bunch of farmhouse-like buildings, and I was wondering what they were and if you can get access to them.

There is an antenna in the center of the Island, well fenced-in, signed with warning markers such as the one you saw refering to the possible loss of human life if tampered with. This is a navigational beacon used by commercial aircraft, and is still in use. There is high voltage inside, and there are low levels of radiation contained in the device as well. A gravel road leads to an access gate. Is this what you were referring to as the "smokestack"?

I have been wondering abou those farm houses too. I could not safely access them with my dirtbike, too much mud and swamp. No idea who they belong to......

I guess next time I'm out there I'll have to wade my way through the crap and see what those buildings are. Could be worth it though, I haven't seen any roads leading to them. I went out there today and when we were climbing over the fence next to the farm, it sounded like there was a police siren nearby, but I dunno if it was anything.

your referring to the structure in the attached photo.

I went up to the gate... Does anyone know if it's still in use? or is just that the signs have done a great job of scaring everyone away from exploring it???

I checked this out too, and thought better of it. Seen any other intact fences around there? That road looked well traveled, and geographically its not too far from the napa airport. I wouldnt mess with it. Go ahead, call me a mommas boy, its cool.

This is still in use. It is an aircraft navigational beacon, VOR point used to guide aircraft, similiar to GPS. It is the only remaining artifact that was built on the Island during its operation that is still in use today.

They locked the gate, no more driving through. I went there on Saturday night, and there was a new lock installed on the gate, and since there was nothing to attach a lock to, it's not someone screwing with people.

So anyone here want to go check out those farmhouses? I doubt I'll be able to get my bike in there to check them out now. Anyone know if the huge hole between the gates is patched up?

I think Skaggs is pretty much inaccesible now. I was caught by the feds in there, at like 7:00 at night.

Scariest damn thing ever.

They seemed rather upset... Anyone else seen anything recently?

Story please? I had been thinking about going back, from the north side, but maybe not now. Where were you when you were caught?

Well. I went in on the side farthest from Infineon, over by Napa, and I was doing the usual, walking around trying to find new and different things in the houses and whatnot. Then my friends and I decided that we were hungry, and it was getting dark, so we walked back towards the gate, taking our time, and we got to the gate, one of my friends hopped over with me, and the other two people were a little bit behind us.

Then as my friend climbs up the fence, and gets to the top, I see an SUV with lights on top of it pull up really fast, and as my friend hops over, they flash the lights and sirens for a second, leaving my other friend on the other side. So we just kinda stood there while they got out saying to ourselves how screwed we were.

So they hop out of the car, and I notice they have a "US Federal Government" license plate. So they get out and have us read the "Authorized personel only" sign, so we do that, then he asks us for ID, and I showed him my school ID, and then he asks if we want them to turn us over to the Sonoma County Sheriff's department, since I'm from Sonoma. Of course, we say no, and then he proceeded to lecture the 4 of us about how it used to be a pristine piece of property, and now there isn't a single window in tact.

I tell him I understand that and I explained to him that we don't go in there and vandalize stuff, we just like to walk around and enjoy the fact that there's something interesting to do around Sonoma. After that, he told us, "I'm going to ask you one question, and if I think you're lying, I'll check." I thought he was going to ask if we had ever been there before, but he asked if any of us had a criminal record. Of course, none of us do, so we told him that, and he just told us to get permission before we go in. I forgot to ask him how to do that though, since I was a nervous wreck.

It was possibly one of the scariest thing I have ever dealt with. Mostly cause as I was climbing out a window in a house, a bunch of the glass shards on the concrete below cracked and made a bunch of noises when I stepped on them, and I thought that they had heard it.

But yeah, I'm not going back, until I get a key. And when, and if I do, I'll make copies for anyone who wants one.

Are the gates on the other side locked now? It's been a while since I have been there.

I was there 3 weeks ago and there was nothing from preventing one from driving their vehicle onto the property and all around the premises (via the south entrance).

Because there was no gate (via the south hwy 37 entrance) I felt I had carte blanche to explore as I wished. (If I was stopped I'd say that I drove right in and there were no gates, signs, etc... preventing me from entering.

I do know of the SUV you speak of though. About two months ago and many times before that I had tried to enter and always spotted that SUV (w/ the lights) parked near the south entrance.

Personally I feel that as long as there is no gate from the south entrance all they can do legally is ask you to leave. To be arrested for tresspassing and actually prosecutted it must be shown that there are ample signs spaced about 8' apart (stating "no tresspassing" or something to that effect) ..as well as a gate/fence/or some other barrier. It must be proven that you actually crossed a barrier or sign and tresspassed.

I'd try entering from the south next time, as there is no gate, no barrier, and any tresspassing signs were no longer present the last time I visited.

maybe i'll swing out there after work this week...i'll post what I find (see if anythign has changed in the past 3 weeks)

Last time I went out there, to the south side, they had recently installed a lock on the gate. So if the gate is physically gone now, I'm for sure driving out there. Thanks for the tipoff. I'll try going out there tomorrow after school.
