To Nikon's credit it is a free fix, even though the camera is 20 months old and out of warranty. Their estimated turnaround is 5 days, but we'll see. Hope I can get it back for the next moon.

I like Nikon. They have good service, (when it's needed). I have a Canon Digital Elph 400. After 13 months, the zoom lense failed. The cost to repair it was almost as much as buying a new 5 megapixel replacement. Plus their customer service from my experience is very poor, almost apathetic. I bought a Kodak 8 MP with a Zeiss lense. Excellent camera. I won't be buying another Canon again. I still need a small camera to carry in my pocket. Nikon is my first choice now.

I drove through Skaggs for the first time the other day, there were a lot of cars driving through. The past 3 times I've been there, There's been a truck with a guy asleep in it by the entrance on the Sears Point side. I've also seen a bunch of people with cars in there. I was in the burned building, and I look out, and a white truck and a black SUV drove by. So I ducked back inside, and then a few minutes later, there were like 12 cars parked over by the dock..... Friggin weird.

Has anyone noticed new gates or anything on the side closest to Infineon? I haven't been out there in a while, but I have been to the side closest to Napa/Sonoma, and they put up new "authorized personel only" signs and it appears that they have installed a new gate. Thanks for any info.

I drove by there yesterday on my way home from work... from the south 37 entrance I was able to drive all the way over the bridge and up to the little security post ...there was a polic suv parked on the inside of that gate with it's headlights on. I turned around and headed out...

seems that skagg's isn't so easy to explore anymore.

I feel this is probably due to the fact that plans are underway to develop on the land and that skaggs has been getting a lot of press in the media lately.

I did notice an attempt was made to put a vehicle-blocking swing-bar in the road just before the bridge. I think the gate was installed about four months ago. I was able to get around it on my dirt bike and make it onto the island. It was then that I first saw that the gates were open by the guard shack. Only the survey company was on-site, and could care less about my being there.

It seems that a lot of our favorite sites are beginning to be closely monitored as they become closer to development/demolishment. The police at Cal Ink seemed to be giving me the impression that they had been picking up a lot of taggers from there lately, as if they're monitoring it more closely, esp. since heavy equipment and construction is now on-site.

Time to find some new ones. I'm still not convinced that Schlage is impenetrable. Difficult, yes, but impenetrable, no.

I'm holding to my word guys. I will have a new cool building for us to explore within the next two weeks. And it will be a doozy. I'm following a number of leads, especially old abandoned theatres.

Yeah, anytime there is a possibility that a developer's equipment may be damaged, police start to care. Usually, because they do not want to take the chance of getting hurt or dirty themselves, most police will not go into an abandonment or actively search for someone unless a felony has been committed.

HA HA. You are soooo right. The police officers who came up the stairs of Cal Ink to get me were all too eager to get out of there.

They kept on saying, "I really need to wash my hands now."

there is an abandoned theatre in the town of Walnut Grove...it's about an hour and a half from SF area...

The theatre looks pretty cool and can be infiltrated.

(I too have several projects in the works)!!

I visited this theatre on the way home from visiting several other sites ...so time was short and I only took some quick photos of the outside knowing I'd save this site for another day when the pickings were slim.

I used my zoom to take some photos of the upper windows..It appeared that equipment was still present in the theatre...

Maybe now is the time to give it more attention???

Ooooohhhh that one is a beaut! Are you down for going in soon. I'd like to tag along.

I noticed Locke is right next door to Walnut Grove too, so it would be a fun two-for-one day.

Of course, with the right research, I'm sure I can go myself for this Saturday, but I didn't want to step on your toes. Finder's keepers, as they say, and it's your find!

A true philanthropist. Still though, I know how it feels to be the "first" one in a site, and I don't want to take that from you.

It is a great feeling to present your finds to the group on UER.. but really I am not possesive, I've found many great places from others and am more than happy to pass what I know on to others.

(I just PM'd you all I know about the theatre and it's location).

-if you pm me an email address I'll email you back more photos of the theatre at higher resolution...this will give you a better idea of what to expect. the theatre has an alley on one side that may be good if there are windows on that side... the front entrance has boards but they look really loosely attached... but it's also the most visible area to go in...

I went to Skagg's on Saturday and got in! No police car guarding the entrance!! (This may have been because resources were low due to a huge multi-car pile up on 37??

Anyway, I spent a good 4 hours out there exploring. It's a really cool site. I doubt there is anything of any value left... it looks like it's been picked clean.

On my way out I saw a bunch of cars driving around, they stopped by a building I was exploring an hour or so earlier and began shooting their shotguns at the building.

you can view my video collage here:

The photos are being added to the UER database now...

Nice video! By the way, I drove out to the theater on Saturday (the one you posted the photo of), and about a 20-year-old guy with a wheelbarrow cleaning out debris from the building. I asked him if I could walk in to take a look, and he said sure.

His father and him are turning it into a showroom for their wrought iron business. Pretty cool stuff they make; they had some wrought iron gates in front of the building n'stuff.

It was abandoned for 40 years, and was built in the 1920s. It was still quite virgin when i walked in and asked the guy if I could take photos, he said sure...

But then... his father walked up, and said that he's sorry, I couldn't take photos, because of liability/insurance reasons. I was bummed. It was BEAUTIFUL inside. Intricate woodwork, the whole works. I'm kind of bummed I couldn't take photos. Oh well

By the way, if anyone knows of any good theatres, please let me know. The miracle mile on Mission in SF is amazing, but I think they're all pretty well secured and locked up.
