| | | Saw what I believe to be a Texas Coachwhip snake this weekend at Travis State School. Nixxy, Ardamas, Altaria and I interrupted him just as he was about to make lunch out of a lizard. All of us freaked a little including the snake. Wasn’t long before he was gone. It had to have been 3 – 4ft long.

You were much quicker on the draw with the camera than I was with that guy. I think the only creature not startled was the lizard, who was probably just really happy.

I think you're right but I've always heard them referred to as Western Coachwhips rather than Texas Coachwhips. 2X will know.
I'm a blatant waste of time and resources. |

| | | I found one of those once...
This snake was an odd encounter back in late '07; I was cruising up highway 208, having just reconned the Kent County Jail for a shoot that night, and was heading to Spur for dinner, which was about 20 miles to the north and was the nearest town with an operating restaurant. Suddenly, I see something jumping up on the shoulder of the road; I brake, look over, and see this 4 foot long coachwhip snake going crazy as I go by, still at a pretty good speed. I slowed and turned around to see what the deal was; As I slowly approached from the other way, he didn't react in any way, so I pulled off to the shoulder to watch him as another truck approached at full speed. Sure enough, as the truck got close, he started jumping around, raising as much of his length off the ground as he could as the truck passed; then he calmed down again. As I pulled out to leave, I snapped a couple shots of him. He seemed healthy, I think he was just freaked out by the vibrations of speeding vehicles approaching. Strange...but hey, maybe that's why they call 'em coachwhips!

| | | You're right - Western Coachwhips... but I think we can all agree that Texas is awesome.

I'm currently taking care of my brother's ball python, Sympathy. Maybe we should get them together and make baby ball pythons!

I've actually considered that. They bring a pretty fair price.
