Posted by Shawn W. AVOID THE D3000. The thing is garbage. If you have to get an entry-level Nikon, go for the D5000. |
Posted by Ogre Battle Better yet, move up a few rungs and get a D90. |

Posted by Cryptix A new D90 is like 2x my price range...it's a nice camera but I just dont wanna fork out that much for a first slr. |
Posted by Whootsinator If find that you really enjoy photography after you do purchase your first SLR, you'll definitely wish you had saved up for the better one instead of going for the first thing you could currently afford. Ask me how I know... |

Posted by Cryptix I see what your saying but I have to draw the line somewhere I can't just go out and keep buying the most expensive thing I can just because it's slightly better. All I'm looking for in a camera is something that well do everything that I'm looking to do with it and not make me bankrupt. I'm reading reviews and the kx is probably the best current camera for me in my price range....the d90 has a few advantages but I don't see it making that much of a difference for me to justify spending twice as much . But I am still looking into other cameras and I will look into used D80's. |

Posted by Whootsinator ...and you decide to go with the Nikon line, I highly recommend you keep saving until you can afford a D90. |
Posted by Cryptix I went and looked at some cameras this morning and I really really like the feel of the pentax....It also has some really nice features to it which put it ahead of the canon imo. I'm liking the fact that it uses AA batteries and it does hd video. Thanks budda for the great info...If I were to buy just the body its about 70 bucks cheaper than it is with the 18-55 so I might go that route if i can get some better lenses. I would like to get a macro lens at some point so those used lenses look really nice for the price if I can find some. There seems to be lots of good reviews on the 28-90 but I can't find too many of them for sale anywhere. I start a new job on Monday so it'll probably be a couple weeks before I buy anything which gives me lots of time to research everything. |
