I don't know about 12,800 on the 7D being better than 1600 on the XSI I would say 6400 is more comparable.

Um, I'm pretty sure that he meant that ISO 1600 is less noisy on the 7D than the XSi.

This is very true but he also said something about 12,800 on the 7D being comparable to 1600 on the XSI which is not the case. I think the noise levels are about equal at 5000-6400

^^^^AGREED^^^^ Nikon is ok, but...My math says:

[Nikon=Ford] [Canon=(Lexus minus recalls)] Sure Ford has the Mustang, but it is still a Ford!

The 7D is just all around pretty badass... Owned mine for about three months... I am currently using it to film a screenplay i wrote with some friends.

It blows the Nikon D300s and the new D7000 something away, and even has advantages over the 5D mark II; like being the only Camera on the market that will output 1080p from the HDMI port while recording vid. All the others (even the 5d MkII) go down to 720 or lower when you hit record.

Oh and 8fps is pretty badass.

By the way, did anyone hear the news that canon made an over 200 megapixel sensor? Kinda unrealistic, but cool nontheless!

I dunno, i have owned both, and at ISO 1600, the XSI had tons of noise. With the 7D noise is really not an issue, (it is obvious at 12,800, but still very clean for how high it is) especially with the High ISO noise reduction on. On the XSI the HINR didn't work as well.

The 7D is just my dream camera, and I have tested it.
Also, not really fighting words...
FORD=Fix Or Repair Daily.
It holds true with both ford vehicles, and Nikon Cameras Canon is far more reliable. Of all photographers I know, ALL the canons are still kicking, whereas the nikons, including a D300s, have all been taken in for repairs at some point, with the exception of 2 of my friends that have D40's both of them are still going

Is it better to update firmware and not have a camera for 10 minutes or than mail it back and not have it for 10 days....

It's better to have a camera where everything is right the first time, something that doesn't have to be 'out' for 10 minutes or 10 days.

I have had NO issues with my Canon, and all my friends who own Canon, have had no issues either.. so I'd rather stick with a brand that has no issues.. but before this becomes a giant flame war, if I had the money, I would own one of each. I LOVE Nikon Cameras, the feel, the performance, the low-light capabilities, the quiet shutter. I jsut prefer and am a Canon faithful, and so far, Canon has not let me down, and It has outlasted all my Nikon using friends... that is the sole reason behind my argument

LOL My anecdotal evidence is the exact opposite of yours. I guess it just shows that everyone's experience is different.

I have a quick question. I'm getting my first DSLR and I have a choice between the $500 EOS Rebel XS or a $700 EOS Rebel t1i.
Which one should I get? Is the T1i worth the extra 200 dollars? Or should I get the XS and save the extra 200 for a lense?

If you won't need video it is (if you need video: go for the t2i instead).

For roughly the same price get a used or refurbished XS or XSi body only (don't bother with the kit: the lens leaves you wishing for far more)

and a sigma 17-70mm or tamron 18-50mm
