You're going to listen to one of your regional mods. You've already had a thread locked because you didn't understand how this board functioned. You're carrying on in an introduction thread with gushing conversation. We're happy to have you here, but private messages have their place, and you should learn to use them. Please stop cluttering this board with haphazard, repeated replies. Take a few to learn how this board works, where to post what, how to use messaging buttons, and what boards are best for posting photos. If you have any questions, feel free to use the "Contact a Moderator" board. Also, replying with a quote to your own post is pretty fucking stupid. Try not to do that. And, of course, welcome to UER.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

| | | Hey, I'm Jono, I'm incredibly new to UE and have only explored a few abandoned houses in my hometown. I had heard about UE in another forum and it sounded interesting so I had done quite a bit of research and have lurked around for a while but am finally starting to actually get out there and find stuff.

| | | Howdy everyone, CaptainSlow here. Been exploring since I was 14 or so but didn't find out what "it" was called or that there was a group dedicated to it. Very excited to be part of the community, I know of a couple killer spots around the metroplex, namely Denton and thereabouts that are undocumented as of yet. Expect to hear more from me and tons of great pics. See you guys at the Feb DFW meet and greet!

| | | Hi Everyone! My name is Josh and I would say I'm fairly new to UE. I've been interested in UE since I started my degree in photography in 2008. I'm currently more of a rural explorer based on my living in the boonies for the most part. I'm looking forward to contributing to locations in my area and meeting some other like minded individuals to explore with.
I started out as a light painter with the locations I would come across and just started my adventures into the world of HDR this year. I've seen some of you on flickr so if you want to add me as a contact thats cool. My Flickr: http://www.flickr....tos/haydenimaging/ My few explores: http://www.haydenimaging.com/abandoned I'm pumped to have the ability to meet up with some of you in the future and I'm ready to contribute for the good of UER!

| | | Hey, I'm Geoff. I've been up in Alaska for 6 years now, looking for neat things to see and do and was advised about this site. I've been lurking for a while, using the publicly available stuff, but I would like to get a full membership to see what else there is in the great white north.

| | | Hi there UER I'm originally from Seattle, but currently live in LA where I go to college. I have always liked the idea of exploring but for the longest time I never really thought twice about abandoned buildings. I was interested in tunnels and mines however and was doing research on draining when I came across this site. The beautiful images of abandoned buildings have been seared into my brain and I just cant stop thinking about them. I don't have a car in LA so I'm going to have to figure out a way to do major explores down here.

| | | Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Grainger and I reside in the rat infested slums of Oakville Ontario about 45km west of Toronto. I generally only emerge from my dismal basement hovel in the early hours of morning to go rumaging through garbage dumpsters looking for useless stuff to sell on ebay in order to support my 'Tim Hortons" habit. I apologize to anyone not from Canada who felt it necessary to Google either km and or "Tim Hortons" When I was younger (back in the early 1960s) my parents had a summer cottage on Lake Conestoga near Holden Ontario. Lake Conestoga is a man made lake created in the 1950s by damming the Conestoga River. Some small villages disappeared completely and others became mere shadows of there former selves. When we would go there in the early 1960s Lake Conestoga had numerous abandoned houses and buildings around the shoreline. Originally the lake was created for water supply and flood control purposes recreational use was prohibited so the people who created the lake did not see any reason to bother removing things such as bridges, fences and street signs. Telephone poles had been cut down but not removed and the wires were still attatched. The upper structure of buildings had been removed but the foundations and basements were still there.
Our first indication that something was strange about the lake was when we were sailing along in an Albacore Class Sail Boat (power boats were prohibited) and our keel went thud on something. A few weeks later when we came back the water level had fallen and the tops of hump back bridges could be seen. eventually the water level fell down to the original size of the river and aided by some old ordinance survey maps we went exploring as a family. Even the playground equipment of a demolished two room school appeared when the water level dropped. Dad drove us in our Rambler Station wagon along roads and over bridges that didn't officially exist anymore. My parents were serious urban explorers long before the term had ever been coined. Through Dad's job he had access to old maps and street plans and we spend many happy days looking for gone or forgotten railway lines, buildings and towns. Later on in my life 1976 or 1977 I lived in an apartment building in Toronto that had a disused underground parking area. I don't know if it is still like this but would be curious to know. I believe the building was around 20 floors. It looked like there were only two levels to the underground parking but looking for a lost cat one night I came across and additional four levels that had been sealed off and hidden behind a wall. There were no lights down in the lower levels and when the lower levels were sealed off five or six unclaimed cars had been left down behind along of course with assorted shopping carts and other refuse.
